I thought a thread talking about who might want to draft a QB and current draft order would be of interest.

So far....only Cleveland is a 100% definite to draft a QB ahead of us. We actually aren't in that bad a position.....lots of teams ahead of us in the draft already have a QB in place and/or just took a young QB very high. If it's a 3-QB draft in the Top 5, we could be in position to finish close to Top 5 in the draft and then maybe use the extra #2 to move up to take a QB (assuming one is worthy of being drafted).

Anyway, here's the latest draft order with my comments on the likelhood of taking a QB:

    (1) Cleveland: will finish #1 and draft a QB.

    (2) Giants: May want Eli's successor but may also trade down or draft for need other than QB. Will not let Jets trade up with them.

    (3) Indy: Luck's health next few months is key. Begins throwing in a few days; just back from Europe for treatment of shoulder problems. Rumours of friction with owner Jim Irsay. Could take a QB if Luck deteriorates but more likely to trade down or draft for need.

    (4) Cleveland from Houston: Too bad Houston doesn't have this pick; Deshaun Watson is set. Cleveland could have the #1 and #2 picks overall if a few things break right but they could trade this pick to the Jets -- or a rival.

    (5) SanFran: Garropollo set for QB position, only question is franchise tag or deal. Jets and SanFran swapped picks in 1980 but Johnny "Lam" Jones didn't work out (Jets doctors KO'd pick of Anthony Munoz).

    (6) Chicago: Mitch Trubisky set at QB. New coach (and GM ?) could be coming in. Another potential Jet trade partner, might want to re-coup picks given up last year to move from #3 to #2.

    (7) Tampa Bay: Unlikely they have given up on Jameis Winston so quickly. Not likely to draft a QB.

    (8) Cincy: Has Dalton, but will they start over if Lewis leaves ? Have McCarron, what of him ? Will Hue Jackson come over from Cleveland ?

    (9) Denver: Definite QB need and threat to move up. Need to finish behind Jets in draft order; they beat us earlier.

    (10) JETS

Behind Jets: Arizona (wants QB; may have new coach if Arians retires); Oakland (no QB interest); Washington (depends on Cousins); Miami (possible if they sour on Cutler and think Tannehill not ready for start of camp); LA/SD Chargers (maybe, successor to Rivers if they want local boy Darnhold).

I think that San Fran and Tampa Bay are the only teams that definitely won't be in the market for a QB.

I doubt that the Giants will trade down, unless they think their team has too many holes to stay put and they actually like one of the QBs ranked lower in the top 10 and figure they can get him lower in the 1st round or maybe even the 2nd. For sure, they won't trade down with the Jets. With a new GM and HC almost anything is possible.

Initially, I didn't think that the Colts would be looking for a QB if Luck is 100%, but several posters informed me that there is bad blood between Irsay and Luck, and Irsay could easily look to move on from Luck. Thus, the Colts could look move Luck for a bunch of picks and take their new QB at #3, and would have no need to trade down. If they keep Luck, they have some real needs on D and their OL, and by staying put, they could certainly fix one of their glaring holes. The only way they may be amenable to trading down is if they keep Luck, think that no one that they really want is worth taking at #3, think they can get him if they trade down a little, or think they need to address a lot of holes and so need more picks.

Trubisky hasn't exactly set the NFL on fire, and especially if the Bears have a new GM or HC, they may want their own QB, or just look to insure that one of them develops into a topnotch starting QB, figuring that they can always trade the loser of the competition. Even if they are happy with Trubisky, if they need a topnotch edge rusher or DT they could decide to stay put.

Cincy is a possible candidate for trading down, but if Lewis leaves, then the new HC may not like either Dalton or McCarron.

Denver definitely needs a QB, as Lynch looks like he may take longer to develop or be a bust. They could try to sign Cousins, but may not have the cap space or just decide that they want to draft and develop their own QB.

Yes, Arizona probably wants a QB, Washington may, Miami probably wants a new QB, and so does Buffalo, and they have tons of picks with which they can move up. They can give more than the Jets in a trade. Other teams who could very easily be looking at taking a QB are Baltimore, Pittsburgh (Big Ben's successor), San Diego, and maybe even Jacksonville, Minnesota, and New Orleans.

Here's a link to an article regarding this very topic at NFL.com: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...ndex-week-16-who-will-be-hunting-for-a-new-qb

    LOL are you serious?!
They're a year removed from making a huge trade up to select him #2 overall

Yep ..I think the biggest threats against us getting at the big 3 are Cleve NYG and Denver...

Jets have to make this happen ..sorry but a FQB is a big missing piece for us

    Next is a good OL

Big thing is final draft order. For Jets to move up to Top 3/4 from 10 is going to be super-expensive. Need to be closer to #5 overall -- so hope some of those teams ahead of us in draft order win games the next 2 weeks.

2 extra wins to date may cost Jets 5-7 spots in damn draft rankings.

We've seen time and again that when new GMs and HCs come to teams, they get rid of high profile players that don't fit their systems or that they don't like. I'm not saying it definitely will happen, only that it could. Weirder, dumber things happen in the NFL all the time.

Fox is almost certainly out -- Pace looks OK in Chicago. The vitriol is directed at Fox and the fact that he is not an offensive coach is also a factor.

No way Chicago is taking a QB, even if Pace is surprisingly fired. He has the McCaskey's support -- Fox, not so.

Indy, Cleveland (from Houston), and SanFran are all possible trade targets for the Jets.

If by some chance the 2nd Cleveland pick -- from Houston -- comes in at #2, then Cleveland could have the #1 pick for a QB and trade that pick to the Jets (who could then leapfrog the Giants).

If the Jets really want a QB they can have one. They might need to trade up and that will require Mac to actually have balls, but if they want a QB they can get whoever they want.............

I think the Browns are extremely likely to take a QB.

The Giants are likely too as well, but can see an unlikely scenario in which they don't.

I'd be surprised if Indy does. It depends on Luck, yes, but Brissett has been decent in his first year starting and was a 3rd round pick last year. IMO they may have other big holes to fill.

San Fran, Chicago, and TB are definitely set at QB

I'd be surprised if Cincy goes QB even though Dalton has been lousy. Plus they also have McCarron, who is going to get a chance as a starter somewhere. Depends what their new coach will want.

Denver needs a QB so they're a threat too. (Too bad the Jets didn't draft Paxton Lynch)

Arizona is in dire need of a QB IMO and would be a big threat to trade-up. The Chargers need an heir too, but perhaps could wait a round or two, because Rivers can still play. Still a threat to move up...

But again, the Bears moved up to #2 after investing a ton into Glennon and in 2016, the Eagles moved up for Wentz despite a lot of money tied up with Bradford and Chase Daniel. So who the hell knows?

Bottom line is if the Jets are dead set on one of these QBs, like Rosen, being move-up worthy, they should do it. Otherwise, maybe they like Jackson, Allen, or Mayfield. Who knows? But they do need a QB very high in this draft or they need Kirk Cousins

I can’t think of one example that would be close to a new gm dumping the #2 overall pick after his first year in the league.
Do you have one you can share?

Nice post, with the team needing so many holes plugged I believe Macc will only move if it's not too expensive.

He might end up selecting Lamar Jackson in first round or wait again until the second round to draft Luke Falk.

He will not mortgage the opportunity to pick up good players for one guy unless he believes the guy is the best player on the board, based on teams evaluations.

I don't expect we'll move up, unless it's just a spot or two.

There are no QB's this year worth the risk of mortgaging the next couple drafts imo.
Even if there were, Cleveland wouldn't pass on that opportunity again.

As we've already seen the draft statistics countless times on this board, most draft picks do not pan out. So moving up to get who you want is in no way mortgaging the future. It's smart management. If they like a QB we need to give up the draft picks to get him. We'll never win a Super Bowl without a franchise QB.

    1) Cleveland 0-14
    2) NY Giants (2-11) .527 @Arizona Washington
    3) Indy (3-10) .487 @Balt Houston
    4) Houston (4-10) .504 Pitts @Indianapolis (Cleveland's pick)
    5) SF (4-10) .514 Jax @ Rams
    6) Chicago (4-10) .558 Cleveland @Minnesota
    7) Tampa Bay (4-10) .563 @Carolina NO
    8) Cinn (5-9) .473 Detroit @ Balt
    9) Denver (5-9) .482 @Was KC
    10) NY Jets (5-9) .531 Chargers @NE
Jets currently at #10, the reason being that Cinn & Den also have (5-9) records, but Jets have played a tougher schedule.
So assuming Jets can lose the last 2 games, we can move up if:
    Chicago beats Cleveland (likely)
    Denver beats Wash (possible)
Cinn wins one of last two (unlikely)
TB wins one of last two (unlikely)
SF wins one and their opponent's winning % goes higher than Jets (unlikely)
Hopefully Giants upset Arizona to move out of #2....

I have a eerie feeling that we might go in a different direction. Just watch Mac sneak in a move with Minnesota for Teddy Bridgewater. Then beef up the OL and CB position thru the draft. Durability aside, is he not a great fit for Morton's offense?.
