Just heard about this the other day and the lawsuit against Cook County to try and stop the implementation of the tax was dismissed. Talk about over taxation. The tax is 1 cent per ounce for any sweetened beverage, a gallon of sweet tea would have an extra $1.26 in tax. Even a rum and coke at a bar would be taxed. I drink Arizona Zero Green tea which is sweetened with honey and it looks like even that would be taxed. If I lived in Chicago I would be extremely pissed about this tax. https://www.cookcountyil.gov/service/sweetened-beverage-tax.
That's some shit, it's not about health, they just want your money Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Exactly, I know what I drink is not as healthy as just drinking water but it has no HFCS, uses honey as the main sweetener and the next to last ingredient is sucralose. Not an ideal drink, but for them to act as if the tax is to save me from drinking that which they determined is a detriment to my health, is ludicrous.
Exactly, the dont expect you not to drink. Cities and towns all over are doing this for revenue Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Brew your own tea and save yourself some real money. You're retired, you'll have plenty of time on your hands, once you're finished clearing the debris down there.
I tried, just doesn't come out as good. At $2.50 a gallon, which lasts me 2 days on average it's not bad. If I was up in Crook County I might reconsider with the price increasing by 50%. I may just be renting a front end loader to push what's left of my house into a hole, shouldn't take too long.
This is why they need to just regulate sports gambling and stop messing around with all these damn little shit taxes. People are gambling hundreds of millions of dollars offshore anyway. They're going to do it whether the country allows it or not. Regulate it, keep it in the United States and tax it. The states are all fricken broke and it seems like such a simple fix.
Maybe I've been fighting this fight for some time. Feel free to start with a Simple Flat Tax. Eventually raise the tax rate on the "Organizations" who make more and spend less in their community.
