At minimum hyperextension, but it's possible he tore a ligament

Saw this during work. Same knee that kept him sidelined a good portion of last year. Had to scare the shit out of the entire team.

Glad to hear he's not crippled.

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...l-miami-dolphins-now-feared-need-surgery-knee

The Miami Dolphins now fear quarterback Ryan Tannehill will need season-ending knee surgery, however no decision to have it has been made at this time, according to sources close to the situation.

As second and third opinions await, Tannehill still could decide to rest it for six to eight weeks and try to come back from his knee injury again, sources said.

But the Dolphins are growing increasingly concerned that surgery will be the most viable and likely option as they and their starting quarterback sift through them.

"He's done, I think," one source predicted Thursday night, referring to Tannehill's hopes of returning this season.

But nothing is final, and options still are on the table.

Tannehill must decide whether he wants to wait at least six weeks to let the knee heal and take another shot at playing this year, or go ahead and have the surgery, which would end his season.

The Dolphins recognize they might have to step in and recommend the surgery that Tannehill has avoided since he initially injured the knee last December against Arizona.

One source said Thursday that, because Tannehill did not repair his partially torn ACL during the offseason, his knee was "a ticking time bomb that was going to go off at any time."

It happened Thursday, on a noncontact play, when Tannehill crumbled to the ground while scrambling.

Tannehill underwent an MRI, and now the Dolphins know they will be without him for at least a significant amount of time, and quite possibly the season.

What about this season for the Fins is worth coming back for? These are times that require pragmaticism and they still play in the same divisions as the Patriots.

so either talk cutler out of retirement or sign kaep to backup moore until he learns the o and moore stumbles? either way, if tannehill is done for the season i think miami will be done with him after this year. it's pretty obvious they re going nowhere with him. he's like andy dalton light

Cutler is a career loser who finally quit.

He will not be coming back.

Cutler will not be picked by any team. As he needs to just focus on broadcasting.

Too bad for them. Would love to see Kaep bring his circus to Miami.

I don't get the Cutler talk, has he been staying in shape? I'd have no problem with him throwing interceptions for the Dolphins.

I always thought Tannehill was overrated, but he started to come on with Gase last year. Then got injured. To me, this is a no brainer, he is OUT for the season. If he tries to come back, he will just get hurt again and maybe cause more damage putting his 2018 season into question.

Jets fans remember that Saturday Night Football last year? Matt Moore was pretty good. He is a solid QB. Maybe you sign Kaep or Cutler, but I don't think there would be a huge drop off with Moore. Unfortunate for Miami for sure though. I hate injuries to any team. Even bitter rivals.

It'd be silly to rush him back from injury. Surgery, fix it, that's the end of his knee problems. If he's their franchise QB, there's no benefit to rushing him back and potentially ending his career over one season. He just turned 29 last month. He'll have quite a few more seasons left after this one.

Not getting surgery as soon as he got hurt last season was a monumentally stupid decision by Tannehill. There's no way they were going to cut him this past off-season, given the $25 million dead money cap hit that would have caused. The Dolphins were not going to get to the Super Bowl last year anyway under any circumstances, and he would have been ready for training camp this year. Instead he'll get the surgery now, and given the $15 million they'll save on the cap for next year by doing so, in all likelihood they'll cut him next off-season. He'll then be looking for a job having come off a completely lost season.

No way they cut him after this season. He's at worst a slightly above average qb. You don't cut qbs who are like that.

When you can get a $15 million cap savings and you've decided he's not your QB of the future? People like that are cut all the time.

Did anyone not see the article abut Cutler being interested in the Dolphins QB job?

It just might happen for them.

Coach Adam Gase said Saturday that Cutler is interested in potentially joining the Dolphins, via Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post.

Gase confirmed he had one conversation with the quarterback-turned-broadcaster about Cutler coming out of a brief retirement. The coach added anything further is premature at this point.

"He was interested," Gase said, per the Post. "I think he's trying to figure out everything. I mean, you don't expect this to happen. I don't think he looked at our situation. He was surprised and he has things to work through."

Cutler is the target for Miami. Gase reached out to him and their FO is in negotiations with his representatives.
The Kaepernick talk is pure speculation , no way Miami signs him. Way more than 70% of the fan base( those who attend games) are Cuban and they would boycott the Dolphins if they were to sign Kaepernick. Remember the Castro T shirt and Pro Castro statement.

They'd be better off with Moore, no?

    Forget about Kaep anyway
