As they say one mans trash is another mans treasure. As you all know the Pats roster is loaded this year, and there is a decent chance some real good players are cut. A few in particular I'd like to add: Dion Lewis-Exactly the type of back we need. Could be the odd man out Austin Carr: I really wanted the Jets to take a late round flyer on him. He was the Big Ten leader receiving yards and went undrafted out of Northwestern. Apparently he's having a real good camp, but its unlikely he sticks given their depth at the position. It would be nice to get a young WR in here who excels at running routes and isn't injury prone. We have enough injury prone projects who could only run the go route (McCagnans type). Cyrus Jones: last years 2nd round pick apparently in BB's dog house
So we should pick up ANOTHER young project WR because Enunwa, Peake, Anderson, Marshall, Hanson, Stewart, Harper, White, Whitehead, and Wilson are injury prone and do nothing but run go routes. And then an injury-prone veteran RB is "exactly what we need". Uh, OK. Have a great day!
On the WR piece the answer is YES: Outside of Enunwa none of those guys have proven to be legit NFL options. They should be bringing guys in every single day until they find five that stick. Stewart and Hansen should have to fight for a roster spot
Aqualong you make some good points here. Carr and Lewis would be possibly be good additions. Unfortunately Cyrus Jones can't cover anyone and seems to drop punts at an alarming rate. Besides the Patriots there are many other teams for the Jets to go bargain shopping. I believe if a player is placed on the practice squad, another team can sign them as long as they are in the 53 man roster. However the rules for PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) designation is more complicated. The Pats and other teams have used this designation in the past ironically enough to keep players who were not in their 53 man roster.
Seriously, they may already have their kicker and it isn't the 'name guy' Cantanzaro whose Arizona *warm weather* FG% dropped like a stone from 90 to 75%. It's very early but they did keep Ross Martin under contract over the winter for a reason. The 2-cent bet here is Martin wins the job. .
Joe did you meant Brandon Lloyd who is retired? Lloyd Odin was the man Aaron Hernandez killed in 2013.
