"No one else can do what I can do. And I've truly figured out in this [pre-draft] process, if I can maximize all my potential in every aspect of the game - this is bold - I do have the ability to be the greatest quarterback to ever play. Imagine taking Brady's intellect and Brady's preparation and putting it on a guy with Cam Newton's body. Why can't I be the greatest? The only thing stopping me from it is me. That's what's driving me now."

:rolleyes::rolleyes: I'll pass on him too

There's a greater chance he has a nervous breakdown and ends up in a mental facility before the end of his rookie contract than him becoming the greatest QB of all time.

Now normally i would like to see the conversation that led up to the controversial quote but, i can not think of anything that could lead to this being an ok thing to say.

How many of these kids aren't overconfident though? He just got caught on video saying it. Most of the highly selected draft picks think they're the best thing since sliced bread. I don't have a problem with some kid saying that if he works hard enough he can be the greatest.

no he wasn't simply caught on a video saying it to his friends or something. If you read the article he sat down for an interview with USA Today, knowing they were going to publish what he said and he spends the time trying to say how great he is.

and I wont get into details but through my travels in life I've met a decent amount of Div 1 athletes and your assumption that most of them think they are the greatest is unfair and inaccurate. We still have team sports, most guys with this kind of attitude draw the ire of their teammates and coaches.

    --

Having said all of that there is nothing wrong with being confident. I think on the field a QB should be a confident guy. But this to me screams the opposite. This is not something a confident, hard working player would do. A confident person would let their results do the talking. They might say something like "i truly admire Tom Brady" and behind the scenes work their asses off to try and emulate him.

A person who is unsure of themselves however, might just want to hear they are the greatest because they don't think they are and it makes them feel all warm inside. Hence, Mr. Kizer saying he is the greatest for USA Today to publish and quote "The only thing stopping me from it is me"

The guy is a nut case. Imagine the pressure of playing in New York and the Post and NYDN throwing this up in his face every Sunday.

I actually like the confidence but unfortunately the body of evidence is not there.

Too bad he didn't stay in school. He's probably going to get under-drafted now. Kids need to stop coming out at the first chance. Manziel killed his career by leaving school early when he couldn't handle the professional requirements of his job.
