So I've seen a lot of the Uber commercials on having a side hustle. I wish I didn't have a two door car because I would totally do it. I've looked into some online survey sites that pay out a very minimal amount of money in exchange for filling out 25-30 minute surveys. Doesn't amount to more than $20-30 a month. I know a lot of you fellas have a lot more experience than a young twenty something year old. Anyone have any suggestions for a side career to make a little bit of extra cash on side (in a legal way of course)?
Become a weekend warrior and cut grass. If you have a mower, weed eater and a blower you can undercut the competition in your neighborhood and get 4 or 5 lawns at 20 - 30 bucks a mow depending on the neighborhood. Since we are coming into summer, 5 lawns at 20 bucks is a 100 week, 400 a month. In winter it slows down but you catch my drift.
I'm self-employed and my work is quite seasonal - going from full on in spring to a trickle in winter. I often supplement my income during the slow period with freelance work (look at freelancer.com or similar sites). I've also done those surveys. They really don't pay at all well, at least they don't for me.
Im in the same boat as you JV. 22 looking for some extra money. I recently started looking into the FBA program on amazon. I have a lot of research to do still, but theres definitely money tovbe made there
If you have some extra cash to start out with you can buy some product wholesale and resell on Ebay, FB groups, flea markets, etc. There are even drop ship services that you can sign up with where you don't even buy the product. You set up your website and sell it, once it sells you send the drop shipper the buyers info, they mail it out. You get the close to wholesale price but don't have to worry about getting stuck if product does not sell. If you are handy you can start a handyman service doing the small jobs that don't require a licensed contractor. Small painting jobs, patching walls, etc. Licensed contractors can generally come in a little too expensive for these type jobs and that is the niche you would fill.
Stay away from Uber, the only ones making out are the guys who created it. How much time do you have to spare? Once you figure out how much time, we can help. I believe landscaping is probably your best bet. Where are you located? Market will determine how much you charge. I enjoy lawn work and if I were 20 something I would do it in a heartbeat, as long as you keep your acccounts to a minimum you should be ok. Handy man business is ok but it will involve projects that may take more than a weekend and homeowners want things done quickly. Maybe get a real estate license and do showings on weekends, commission based work but hours are very flexible. Civil Service jobs are also worth looking into.
1) what "skills" do you have? 2) what do you actually enjoy (or don't mind) doing? 3) what are you doing fulltime now, and how flexible is the schedule? 4) target something different than that job, so it doesnt feel like you're always doing the same thing Over 10 years ago I was laid off from my "full time" job.....now I'm primarily a freelance/1099 graphic designer, so that ebs and flows, so Employment has been a collection of "side hustles" ever since. At one point I had more jobs than the Jamaicans on Living Color (you're young, may want to youtube that ) but they were ALL different, so I wasn't bored / burnt out. I have 2 steady monthly clients, so I'm down to only 2 jobs now. Stability isnt there, and I don't have benefits (and prob miss some income) but the not being stuck in a cube / somebody's bitch is worth the sacrifice
wait a second....I have been told the economy is fine so why the need for extra income??..... seriously though u young folks (south of 40) need to check out your civil services and take a few of those tests. plenty of part time and full time jobs open up with a decent hourly wage and some benefits. The tests are not given often so don't waste time. other ideas - handyman - look there are contractors on every block it seems but none of them want the smallish jobs. people just do not have the money to upkeep their house anymore and don't want to do it themselves. any fixes or improvements are done with small budgets. there is a definite need for folks that can hang a door, paint a room, build a small deck, tile a foyer, plant a few evergreens... etc etc. even if u just have a little experience u can do it. hard work no doubt but if u are a decent guy and can charge just a bit less than the competition, people will flock to you.
This is true...... my hands (and a garage full of tools) has often got me through the "lean" times I've actually done said work for contractors who get calls for "little shit" but are too busy building houses like he said...... which actually started by doing some "handyman" type stuff for realtors / developers that needed fixups / final touches on properties they were selling
This is the truth. I hired a guy off of craigslist a few years ago to retile my bathrooms and install a frame for a set of french doors replacing a sliding glass door in my house. Ended up saving me a decent chunk of change and giving a guy income that he needed. Now whenever there is a project that requires a certain skill set that I am not confident I can do a good enough job and will effect the resale value of my house hes the the first guy I call because I know he does good work at a better price than the competition.
If whatever ads you put out on Craigslist are clear you can generally know you are getting smaller jobs that only take a day or maybe 2. After I retired I started doing some handyman work and in 2 years only once did I have to turn down a job because it was too big, he also wanted me to repipe the entire house without a permit so that made turning it down very easy.
But seriously, you know any web design? Or maybe go and Participate in Research Studies? When I didn't have a job, I did some web design on the side and got my CCNA for networking.
I would stay away from Uber, they really don't pay their drivers from friends/family/driver's who picked me up have told me... Just way too many people have said this for it to not be legitimate. Lyft is a little better... Not sure if you can, but try getting into Poker. If you are good with math/equations you can make a lot of money if you commit to it. I used it as a way to pay for my debauchery when I was in college.
You need a bankroll to make income from poker. He is looking for extra cash. Don't think there is a match. Plus, there are fewer recreational player now. The hype is over so the fish are few. 10 years ago was different.
Yea, you're 100 percent right. Country wide online poker is illegal right now, and that's what made it easy to make a bankroll from 50 bucks.
