http://www.nj.com/eagles/index.ssf/2017/02/nfl_draft_2017_how_mike_mayock_ranked_eagles_posit.html Mayock almost always has controversial choices and ranks players differently than others. He doesn't disappoint in that regard in his rankings for this year's draft. Here are just a couple of his choices: He has Kizer as the top-rated QB (barf). He doesn't even list Cam Robinson as an OT prospect. He has him in with the Guards and Centers.
I guess he sees Kizer as more of prototypical NFL QB than Watson. However, for my money, looking at the overall collegiate numbers for Watson makes him very impressive. Add to that the success of QBs such as Wilson and Prescott, who are not prototypical, but whose games Watson's is similar to, and he would be my pick. Also surprised he left off the Clemson TE who I thought is just a notch below Howard.
First, I can't disagree with his assessment of Cam Robinson, but I DO disagree on his selection of Kizer as the best QB. What does he base this on - his physical measurements? Really? Reading the first part of his analysis where he lists the stats for Kizer, Watson, Trubisky, it's obvious that both Watson and Trubisky were more prolific, and Watson's opponents were arguably stronger. I really think these analysts make a huge error when they rely so much on physical measurements. Sure, they can be indicators, but they can't measure the really important stuff, like natural feel for the game; intuition; a winner's attitude; etc. You can't just throw some measurements out on the field and watch them perform. Look how many busts come form the ranks of the "prototypical QB". The thing is it isn't the prototypical QB that wins SBs, it's the a-typical ones that do.
I can't wait to see Heath Evans eat a bag of peanuts after a particularly strong bout of diverticulosis. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
Evans is a pit bull and Pats lover but he tells it like it is. I prefer Lindsey Rhodes and the rest of the crew lol
Lol at hyping Kizer because he's big and statuesque. Those are just about the worst criteria for ranking QBs.
