I understand the NY Giants vs. NY Jets rivalry and why they play every year, but why Philly? Some sort of agreement or something?
Back in 1943 a local witch from the backwoods of Philly felt bullyed by the towns people who always made fun of her saying she had no magic powers and was nothing but a twat with eyes and a nose. She felt like a failure So she casted a spell saying in the future your football team will be forced into playing the Jets at the end of every preseason to give the people of Philly a sense of what real failure looks like while having to watch the Jets play a pre season game
That Witch was burned at the stake....Thus the Tebow signing....So Butt Fumble doesn't have to play in the game
I don't like playing the Giants week 3 of the preseason this year. Week 3 is the tuneup game where you play your starters and show a bit of your playbook, I don't think it's right that we play it against a regular season opponent. I don't care about the stupid "Snoopy Bowl" promo.
The last week of the pre-season is always a nearby team so no one has to travel far the week before the season starts.
Well, that may be it, still, some games aren't against nearby teams. e.g. Jacksonville vs. Washington, Minnesota vs. Tennessee, New Orleans vs. Green Bay, Oakland vs. Seattle But as you said, the rest of the games are nearby teams matches.
Makes no sense at all. Most important preseason game and neither team can show the other anything. It could be argued they shouldn't even be playing but I don't mind that too much. I do mind it being week 3 though.
They can show each other anything and everything. This is 2015, every team will have game tapes on every other in the league. Whether the giants see it in person in august, or on film throughout the 2105 tapes leading up to when they play, they will see it.
As far as playing the G-girls (or any team) in pre-season and than playing them again in the regular season, sure, it can crimp your style when game planning. But regardless of who our 3rd pre-season opponent is, Jets are going to break out some bread and butter plays. The starters play for 3 qtrs and you know they'll be running some 'real shit' regardless of who it's against. Do we still do that mid-week 'controlled scrimmage' thingy with the Giants? I remember one year the Giants whining about how physical the Jets were playing. Did we do it last year?
It's an attempt to get more fans (doesn't matter if they are Eagles or Jets fans) to attend a meaningless game.
