AMC, which is arguably the best channel to watch right now, has officially given "The Walking Dead" the green light.

Frank Darabont, who's directed films like The Shawshank Redemption and The Mist, will direct this show.

AMC has already ordered six episodes and the show will begin filming shortly. It scheduled to air sometime in October of this year.

I've been checking for casting updates a few times a week and it looks like a lot of unknowns will be playing major roles. This can either be a good or a bad thing.

This show will be based off of the AMAZING series of graphic novels.

Anyone as excited as I am for this?

Never heard of it...I'm assuming it's a zombie story? Sounds pretty badass.

Never heard of it, I'll hafta check it out. But I agree that AMC's watchable, they've been showing a buncha really good movies on TV lately (Gangs of New York, Pulp Fiction just to name a few) and really late on Friday nights like around 2-3 in the morning they have classic horror movie marathons on. I don't know what it is but coming back home from a night out and watching scary movies on AMC with your friends is a surprisingly chill ass time.

I'll admit upfront that I'm blatantly biased toward zombie fiction, but this is my favorite graphic novel.

Awesome,I love this series.I need to update my collection though,I've only got the books up until the end of the prison story.

The beauty of the series is that it's a zombie saga that doesn't end.All the zombie movies end with them finding a cure,or the zombies dying out. This just goes on and on till everybody is dead.

It's not a zombie movie. It's a series that kind of started the reboot of zombie films.

28 Days Later, which is a great movie, copied a lot of things from The Walking Dead series.

28 days later was released a year before the walking dead.

I think Robert Kirkman said he'd never seen 28 days later when it was released, and the opening scenes for both are the same by chance.

I wonder if they'll do the series in black and white,it would give it a good blunt feel.

Damn, I didn't know that. ...that's what I get for trusting some idiot on IMDB.

It's supposed to be in black and white. I saw an interview with Darabont and he mentioned increased gore and violence because of the lack of color.

    Series, movie, whatever.

You don't think it is played out. I mean I liked a few of them, 28 Days later...and Shaun of the Dead, but it seems every year there are two or three more movies like those.

Kirkman's series has a lot of depth to it. I think this show will last if it's done right and Darabont has been very successful in the past.

I'd give this show a shot....I'm a sucker for zombie entertainment.

I also enjoyed 28 Days Later and The Mist.....Darabont is the man.

I've heard The Walking Dead described as "zombie fiction for people who don't like zombies," and I think that's pretty accurate.

This is isn't a story about taking down the Umbrella Corporation or finding a cure or getting to the chopper before the credits roll. It's about the psychology of survival. Comparing 28 Days Later to The Walking Dead is like comparing Mad Max to The Road. I love everything I just mentioned, but there are substantial differences, regardless of the clear similarities.

Darabont's only great movie is Shawshank, and half his movies are pure garbage. I'd hardly call him "the man".

I liked This Mist and The Green Mile.

In my opinion, Darabont's done a great job with all of his King adaptations.

Oh, ZZzzzzzzzz, a comic book? I'm not into graphic novels, either. Zombies, George Romero style, that I'm into. I guess I'll have to compromise my principles. Damn it.

It's a good example of a graphic novel not being a superhero story.I would recommend the Walking Dead to anyone.
