The Yankees lineup tonight is without A-Rod, Sheffield, Matsui, Posada, Cano, and Rivera is unavailable to pitch.
Oh God.
Still doesn't give Joe an excuse to bat Cairo second.

Took balls to pinch hit for 3-3 Nick Green (especially with Aaron Guiel), but it pays off.

Hah, what a time to put the tarp on. Game should've been over already if it wasn't for a blown call.

Terrible decision, he should've just let A-Rod finish the at bat. I guess Putz could barely grip the ball though.
What happens if they can't finish up?

I think that fans just want somebody to rally behind. He wasn't that great (though he did really pitch well after the first inning.)

I dont get why they didn't let A-Rod finish up his at bat. They were playing in a downpour anyway, determined to get a result.
They're gonna wait all night to get this game in if they have to, but the forecast does show an end in sight.

Ponson pitched well. Most of the hits were soft, and he got us 6.2 innings, and he settled down nicely. Definitely worthy of getting another couple starts.

I'd really like to see Chacon pitch out of the bullpen. He did it before in Colorado and the pressure might help him find the strike zone again.
Unless he makes major strides though I think that Ponson will be the 5th starter indefinately.

P.O. is a good player but a crybaby that was sucked up to by the media. If he throws a water cooler the media calls it intensity, if Sheffield does the same thing he's a malcontent/cancer.

The day umpire Mike Reilly should get kicked out of Baseball for the worst call of all time. Like Posada has ever been able to beat out a ball. It wasn't even close!

It was a bad call but it was close, you make it sound like he was out by 4 feet.

Tigers lost to the White Sox again so the gap in the WC race gets closer.

Shocking you'd be in here whining about that when a week or so ago Chavez(I thik it was him) was clearly out at home but they called him safe and gave you the go ahead run.

A bang bang slide into home with dirt flying is the same as a a guy being out 2full steps at first.
Yanks are the kings of cheap wins to beat bad teams. The 200 million isn't enough, they need all the help they can get.

We've been screwed alot this yar, it happens(including that 1st met game when ARod was clearly safe at 2B which cost us runs). Chavez was CLEARLY out at home, Jorge was not out by 2 steps, it was a close play.

I guess convincingly beating the White Sox is now erased because of that call last night. That call was a little closer than you are describing it.

i didn't see the play in the yankee game last night, but you're off base with the chavez play. the ball beat him home and most bad umpires will give the fielder the benefit of the doubt in that case even if they don't make the tag in time. angel hernandez miraculously made the correct call that chavez got his foot across the plate before he was tagged.

This is absolutely correct - Chavez was, in fact, clearly safe, although it would have been no surprise for him to be called out.
Posada was clearly out, but it was by a step, not two feet. The reason it was a surprise is that the first base umpire has no other job in that spot but to look at the foot and base and listen for the ball - it's one of the easier calls to make.
I won't bother addressing the absurd notion that the Yankees somehow "need" to get "cheap" wins like this. They got a lucky break, and Hargrove was right to complain about it.

No, he was 100% safe. The catcher was lazy with the tag. I had to make sure myself.

Here is what I said in the game thread at the time:

At first, he looked out; after the first replay he looked like he might have been safe; and after the second replay it was clear that he was safe. It was a great slide by Chavez over the front left part of the plate, and the catcher didn't tag him until a split second later, when his foot was over the middle of the plate. As 3rd noted, the amazing thing was that the umpire got the call right, especially given that it was the incompetent Angel Hernandez. He probably actually thought he was out, which is why he called him safe.

either way, bad calls happen on both sides for every team all the time....it's not fair to claim the yankees "get help" all the time to beat bad teams....it's really just a joke

On the replays they showed on SC he sure looked out, maybe they didn't have very angle but he definitely looked out on the replay I saw.
