The fact that paying him $$$ is the stickler just lends to the theory that the Greed fuk is the one who called this shot.

[QUOTE=xxedge72x;2449407]By referencing Brad Smith I'm not making a literal comparison to Brad Smith the player vs Tim Tebow the player but rather the value being acquired from utilizing a fourth round pick on those players.
Brad Smith was drafted with a fourth round pick not to fill any specific role but rather to be a good football player and fill any role they asked him to do. He did a great job of that and we ended up getting all those aspects out of him.
Tebow won't return kicks or play receiver however he will provide a passing threat out of the wildcat that Brad Smith could not provide. This will back defenses off the line of scrimmage when the Jets run the wildcat. One of the reasons Brian Schottenheimer is no longer with the Jets is because Rex wants the offense to run the wildcat and the fact that they are pursuing Tebow is a punctuation mark on the fact of how important that particular formation is going to be to the Jets offense.
The point is the value is extremely similar for what the Jets are trying to give up. The Jets didn't break the bank for Tebow. Yet the fans are screaming that the Jets just plunged themselves into the mouth of an active volcano.
So what is the real issue? If the issue is not football value then it is about the celebrity that Tim Tebow is and the fact that he generates such a strong response because of his status.
But what is actually important? Improving the football team? Or improving the fans satisfaction with the paper roster?
Personally I see a move that improves the football team based on what the Rex Ryan Jets want to accomplish. I also see a reaction to this move based on the emotional reaction to the person and not to the football value. The Jets spent very little more to acquire Tim Tebow than they did Brad Smith and his value in winning football games should be just as great.[/QUOTE
Well said my brother, lets support the team whatever the decosion might be.

I would think if it's his decision he'd pick the Jags. Unless Tim could be thinking as soon as Mark makes a mistake the pressure is gonna be on the Jets to start me. He could think I'd have a shot be a starter eventually on a team with a better roster.

I'm offering this while on page 76 of this thread so the $5M contract snag may be settled by now. Here's my thought.
Tebow was drafted in 2010 as a 3rd string QB with a very low contract offer full of intensives. This extra $5m was paid almost 1-1/2 years after his contract was written so there would be no mention of it in the original contract.
It's probably mentioned in Addendum 53-b, paragraph r, sentence 17, folder F at the bottom of the pile. A folder Denver never eluded to or made mention of.
Not a total excuse for Tanny, but I bet Tanny crawled through the ORIGINAL contract while Johnson & Johnson was beating his door down screaming at him to make a statement.
That being said, Tanny must now be fired.

That's the problem. The media in reality doesn't know wtf is going on half the time because "Sources say" and they are battling the internet now.

I wonder the same thing. I am surprised Tebow picked the Jets over his hometown team. Jaguars owner Shahid Khan is very high on Tebow.
I'm less surprised that he turned down his hometown than I am that he turned down a surefire starting job (no way the Jags play Gabbert over him.)

Tebow is being underrated here by a lot. He's not a good passer, but he's not being brought here to be a passer. He's being brought here as a football player and an offensive weapon, and he's a very good football player and an awesome weapon to have. If we use him correctly, he can have a very positive impact on the team.

Surely Tebow will be perfect for running our wildcat offense, is that really a big deal??
Anyone who thinks fans will be calling for Sanchez to be benched after a bad game are just as insecure as Mark Sanchez seems to be.
If Sanchez man's up there is no issue
Anyone who doesn't think that that fans won't be calling for Tebow after a bad Sanchez game have lived in a vacuum over the last two years. Why pay your QB $20M+ over the next two years guaranteed only to bring in Tebow? If Sanchez plays as well as some think he can there is no need for Tebow. Since when has a wildcat offense put a team over the top? Please somebody answer that question.
I guess the Jets are smarter than the other 25-30 teams in the league. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Understandably people will go crazy if something goes wrong with Sanchez but I have faith that our organization wont fold.
If you look at this trade, Rex was the driving force in acquiring Tebow, Rex happens to be Sanchez's #1 supporter, if the organization follows what Rex does/wants we will keep Sanchez in this starting role and use Tebow in the wildcat whether the fans want it or not. The day Tebow starts over Mark is either A) Mark gets hurt or B) Rex isnt the head coach.

But if you all feel Sanchez's confidence will break with Tebow here then what is the point of even having Sanchez out there during another rough stretch???
Go out there and play angry Sanchez and play with confidence...
Tebow hopefully plays as Brad Smith with some passing gadget plays and he can learn.
Tebow CHOSE THE JETS even after it was reported that he had a choice between Jags and Jets...He must have been informed about his role by Sparano, Rex, and Tanny...So let him come in here and be part of this team.
I didn't want Tebow-mania in NY because of the ridiculous media...But as a passionate and competitive person, he hopefully can inspire a strong mind-set in the locker room...

Great News - should be fun to have Tebow come in and add a whole new dimension to this offense. Should be interesting to see what happens next. Funny to read people freaking out for no apparent reason. This guy is a good young football player and a proven winner. The dark siders here just want to hate on the guy for the sake of having something to complain about. Meanwhile the FO got the guy that they wanted a first round pick dual threat qb for a 4th and a 6th.
And BTW - THis guy is gonna immediately be like a rock star in NYC, and if starts winning games for the Jets like I think he will - all of you who are complaining now will lining up down at modells to get your Tebow Jerseys!

So no matter what you think of the guy, he's here for better or for worse. How will the Jets use him? Will he be a backup QB or fill that Brad Smith role with the Wildcat? Although I'm not a fan of the trade or Tebow, I still hope he can contribute to the offense in a positive way. The only thing I'm really worried about is the Tebowmania fans and the FO making this franchise dumb. How can you not notice 5 million dollars and agree to a trade? Why is it a mess? He's cheap. He's a hell of an athlete. He fits Sporano's offense. Why is it a mess, because Sanchez has pressure? Tough shit. He's a QB in the NFL in NY. He better believe he ALWAYS has pressure.
Moments ago, I shed tears for Sanchez.

When you think about it, the Sanchez/Tebow competition is a lot like the Romney/Santorum competition in the GOP primary.
Both are mediocre choices. One is a fundamentalist Christian, one is a tool. Both will probably get crushed by a black guy this fall.

Can't believe he picked the Jets over the Jags. Maybe Tanny told him Sanchez has one foot out the door, or he will be on the shortest leash in the history of NFL QB's?
UGH!!!
Clearly he wants to win without all the pressure on his back that he would have going back to Florida as a starter. He probably has faith in what the Jets want to do.

I pray to god you are right Johnny, but one thing I know will happen, is that some portion of this fanbase will cry out for Tebow at first sight of a storm. One organization has proven to not be able to with stand it and honestly, I dont know if the Jets can.

I can't buy that the Jets traded for Tebow to play QB. This has to be about being a Jim Jensen-type player. Now, if Sanchez does suck again and Tebow takes over, then Sanchez sucks.
I bet your Jim Jensen reference flew right over most people's heads. But good call.

I'll support tim tebow; the guy had the balls to dive head first into the chaos that is the New York Jets locker room, when it is considered toxic by many. For that I give him props and i will support him since he is a jet now.

Will you guys who think Tebow is going to help this team with the running game please stop, it shows how little you know about football, the Jets needed to strengthen their offensive line.
Tim Tebow needs an offensive line to block for him, where is he going to run when Wayne hunter cannot run block for him and the opposing DT is in the backfield? Did you guys see what Bill Bellichick did to him in the playoffs? He shut him down!!!

I'm all for him to be used in the Wildcat. Sparano did wonders with Ronnie Brown who could barely throw and Tebow can somewhat throw. I also really like the option we have of using Tebow at the goal line. He always seems to find the end zone or first downs in short yardage situations.
Only time will tell.

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray to Mark Sanchez my quarterback to keep;
But if Sanchize is benched before I wake,
I pray Tebow's wildcat will ease the ache.

Yup. I was the same way. The draft, trading low draft picks for Holmes and braylon, getting Cro which was worth a 2, locking up our core players. I'm having a tough time now.

Jet fan for twenty years. This trade brought me here. I always thought Sanchez was good and it was the Schottys fault. But the way that team fell apart, I got excited today by Tebow. Worst locker room in all of sports and now a leader is coming. Trade Sanchez go full ground and pound, old school fights.
And I would disagree with anyone who says this is not Jetlike. We have always been the underdogs and hated. Everyone hates Tebow and he still wins, that fact that he is nice... is really just a kick to the balls. It's a nasty time, being the good guy, is being the rebel. And being a fullback qb is too. This has win and f you written all over it. Trade Sanchez for some defense. Come at me bro.

One thing that confuses me. Did we even try to get Mario wiliams, the player we could really need? I can see a good use for Tebow as a wildcat etc,but .....?
Mario will NEVER be a #1 QB...have you seen him throw? There's just no place on the team for Mario.

i absolutely, 100% agree with this move.
The fact is that Sanchez is a dick and sucks at playing quarterback for the New York Jets. At the very least this will light a fire under Sanchez and start making him take his job seriously. Furthermore, Tebow will be used almost exclusively as a wildcat QB meaning that he'll be seeing less than 10 snaps a game - hardly the gamechanger all the whiners and complainers think he'll be.
With that said, I'll be the first person calling for Tebowmania once Sanchez starts sucking.

so the #2 qb is a virgin and the #2 cb has 9 kids by 8 mothers.
i'd say the locker room is balanced out quite nicely.
i am for the trade.between timmy and mark we have 2 years to deveope a franchise qb.

Everyone can bash me if I am wrong about this but listen, I hated the whole Tebowmania with a passion. Everyone that said that he should be a starter I put them aside as more idiotic than knowledgeable, but I have always said in a different role he'd be amazing.
We are already a media circus, adding an extra act to an already crazy show isnt much of a big deal at this point. As long as Sanchez plays consistently well and Tebow adds that wildcat dimension to our team no one will be doubting what the Jets as a whole can do on offense.
I think more will be surprised this year than disappointed, but hey like I said bash me if I am wrong.

Forget the media attention and hype for a second. The coaching staff wasn't interested in that. They want him and they want to use him. He's athletic and has a lot of upside. Believe it or not we have a better defense than the Broncos fielded last season. He already produced much more than many football players out there.
Look, the Jets aren't trying to replace Sanchez. They didn't go for Manning, and they gave Sanchez an extension. This is the front office telling the world that "Sanchez is our guy"
Regardless, sure there will be more pressure on Sanchez, but maybe that's what we needed? This is the first significant move that will actually push Sanchez.
Perhaps in the age of Madden and fantasy football, people refuse to give him credit for what he helped accomplished last season because of his numbers.
At the end of the day, we get a guy who has supreme work ethic, raw athleticism, leadership ability, a guy that favored us and wants to be here.

I will support him if he plays Wildcat and gets Sanchez to play top 10 QB ball by lighting a fire underneath his butt.
