If it weren't for the media shitfest, I would totally endorse this move. Tebow would be a nice fit to a Tony Sparano system. And people really are bitching about giving up a 4th round pick? Look at the shit other teams had to give up for a QB! (RGIII and Palmer!)

^Tebow is hardly as good as those guys. He had a terrible year, much worse than Sanchez.
I'm seriously disappointed. I see this as a desperate attempt to sell PSLs and nothing more. We don't need Tebow, we DO need draft picks. WTF were they fucking thinking??? We have Kerley AND Mcknight who are capable of running WC offense. Worst move by Tanny in this off season by far. Trading away our future for someone we don't even come close to need. Go sit in the corner you sell out.

4th and a 6th for a top heavy team with real depth issues due to Tannys wack ass drafts the last couple of years.

Actual question:
Has any team ever been successful with 2 QBs that are fairly equal (or close to it) in skill working as a "team" and playing off each other?
I can't tell if you're serious or not. If so, you're an idiot if you think Tebow is as skilled as Sanchez...Tebow is a HORRIBLE QB, but a good Wildcat QB.

I like how people are comparing him to Brad Smith like half of the stadium was ever calling for Brad Smith to be a full time QB like it will be with Tebow.
This is the argument that drives me crazy. Who cares what the fans think? Seriously. The fans can only affect the team in one way: don't buy tickets. Guess what - that's not going to happen.

This is Jeremy Lin's fault!
Funny, but there might be a ring of truth to this. Linsanity boosted the Knick's stature in the city AND their bottom line. Woody, while not quite in Dolan's class, still is a owner obsessed with perception and desperately wanted the Jets back in the news. He's hoping Tebow does for the Jets what Lin did for the Knicks. At the very least, he'll generate media buzz and when it comes to the Jets, you can never have enough media buzz.

Cromartie is a disgrace and an embarrassment.
I guess if Tebow had fathered 15 kids with 12 different women, and didn't pay his child support (and refused to tackle on the field), he'd be considered a hero.
Some of you haters would treat Tebow with more respect if he was a serial killer, rapist, or child molester; but because he's a Christian, you despise him.
Ludicrous observation

Gotta love ESPN...to a man (or woman) they are marching to the microphone to say why this is such a bad move by the Jets..of course most of them were saying yesterday that he should be traded to the Patriots...what does that say? Do they have no sense of shame at all?...lolIt says Tom Brady is a far better QB than Mark Sanchez is. Tebow either needs to be a starting QB or behind an elite QB secure in his standing who the Tebowmaniacs can't call for to be benched while he tries and learn/develop at the position
Having him as a wild cat type option behind someone like Sanchez is a disaster. The people thinking that's a reasonable option will find out just how psycho the Tebow fan base and hype is very shortly. It's just surprising you didn't notice it in Denver last year.
You've got a full blown QB controversy already. Polls on ESPN already calling for Tebow to start including in NY and NJ. Imagine the media after the first bad game by Sanchez. It's going to be a circus.

With all due respect, your precious Steelers have gone down this same road a time or 2. Kordell Stewart ring a bell?
Tim Tebow makes Kordell Stewart look like Peyton Manning.
To wit: Stewarts first season as a starter he completed 53.6% of his passes for 21 TD's. It was pretty much all downhill from there but the completion percentages went up.
If Tim Tebow was even a moderately capable QB you could defend this move. He's not. He's a one-trick pony. He has been in the NFL for two seasons now and he has a 47.3% completion percentage. His career completion percentage is 8 points below Mark Sanchez who is considered an inaccurate passer. His percentage last season was 10 points below Sanchez who was still considered an inaccurate passer.
Tebow couldn't even complete 47% of his passes in a season in which the expectation was that the Broncos were going to run heavily. They only passed the ball 45% of the time and he still couldn't complete passes even with the box stacked heavily against them.
Tebow was sacked 33 times in a bit more than half of the passing attempts that Sanchez had. He would have had 60 sacks if he got the same 582 dropbacks that Sanchez had.
It's just a horrible move on the face of it and that doesn't even take into account the psycho-social elements involved in bringing another QB who started a game in the playoffs last year into what may well be a split locker room as it is. It doesn't even take into account the fact that the Jets have no way to resolve the problem if the locker room fractures again because they are heavily committed to Sanchez financially and for cap purposes over the next two seasons.
This is like the Titanic seeing the iceberg in the distance and setting course for it anyway.

Exactly what is the risk here? Here's are the possibilities:
1. We lose draft picks.
Very little risk. A no-brainer. We gave up a 4th and 6th (and gained a 7th). That's about the price we paid for Joe McKnight, currently a special-teams ace. You fill out role players around that area, you don't get stars and if you miss, that's totally normal. That's exactly what he will be, a role player in this offense, maybe getting 6-8 snaps a game, tops.
2. We mess up "chemistry".
Again, zero risk here since we're already near zero. The fact that Tebow has been loved by teammates since he was in high school on every stop of his journey should tell you this should be a net positive.
3. We get a media circus.
We've had a media circus here since the Bill Parcells days. Players that play here know this and the media attention's already turned up to 11. Very little risk.
4. We shake Mark's confidence.
This guy has played behind and ahead of some pretty good QB's at USC. That's nothing new. If it shakes his confidence, then he's not built to be a good QB anyway. Besides, if Mark's playing bad, it would be really stupid to blame Tebow.
Seriously, guys. What's the risk? We get a guy that gets a few snaps per game for a 4th. If he doesn't work, cut him. If he does, great! I don't see how this isn't a good move.

I believe Dallas were pretty successful for a short period back in the day(1962) with alternating QB's but this ultimately caused disharmony. Don Meridith and Eddie Labaron. The quarterbacks also used to alternate plays during every game.
I can see this now working in New York.............

Fan controversy = irrelevant. When the fans and media are booing a young QB in Sanchez and chanting or writing some cute headline calling for Tebow, that's not irrelevent. That's going to impact most guys, they aren't robots, they are human.
You will also have teammates who believe in Tebow and those who believe in Sanchez. I'm guessing more will be in the Tebow camp, personally. You are underestimating how immensely popular Tebow is with his teammates. They LOVE him and he'll no doubt have guys in his corner.

You clearly jest.
at 1mil for the year, the only downside was signing Drew Stanton first. (Except that puts a barrier between Tebow and Sanchez, something already overlooked on this thread...)
you're getting a tremendous athlete, a guy who has, to his credit done nothing but win, and can take the wildcat places where Ronnie Brown and Brad Smith couldn't.
Take that to the next step....If you have ANY success with it, you;re forcing defensive staffs to gameplan for it more. This is Brad Smith of the 8000 college yards, and no Pro Starts, this is a guy that took over a 1-4 team NFL and got them to the playoffs.
He's also not a locker room problem, he's going to come in, do what he's asked and work hard at it.
If we're worried about a bunch of morons calling Fatcessa looking for Tebow to start, where do you think that'll go?
We couldnt get rid of Schottenheimer for 6 dang years...

Tebow steps up against pressure. 95 yard drive against the Jets. Taking it to the Steelers when no one thought he could it. Why wouldn't you want some of that heart and spirit and leadership on the team?
Sanchez crumbled last year under pressure. He needed a drive against the Giants at the end of the game and he felt ass backwards in the end zone for a safety. Couldn't even beat Miami when it was all on the line.
Maybe Tebow and Sanchez can make each other better. Sanchez can manage the game in quarters 1-3, but in a pinch, in the 4th quarter... it's Tebow Time!

Listen to what your saying....... if your self motivated... Peyton did not need Sorgi to push him. Some players need to be pushed. This game is about competition.
because the argument people are trying to make is that competition is required to push you towards greatness, not that it can do so if you aren't self driven. they are claiming that Sanchez hasn't excelled because he hasn't worked hard enough due to a lack of competition.
that is completely made up and nobody claiming such has anything tangible to base that on.
if competition was so dire, every great QB in history would haven't have been as successful if they were not driven by competition by another player. so, Manning is a perfect example because who was the great QB that drove him to succeed out of fear of losing his job? what about Joe Montana? the list goes on and on.
you don't need competition from another player to be great if you are self-motivated and have a personal competitive desire to succeed.

The NFL should pay it. They've sold twice that much money in Tebow Jets jerseys in the last 5 hours.

I couldn't tell by all the outrage that Tebow will "pressure" Sanchez. Who cares? The guy deserves "pressure." I'm wondering why no one is bringing up the Denver game when Sanchez threw another pick 6 to set up Tebow's heroics?? Sanchez is just not a good NFL caliber QB.
Not to mention that Tebow will just be a utility weapon in the offense, so there's really not much harm. Rex has shown time and time again he will coach how he wants to and he has undying loyalty to Sanchez. So I don't see how a TD machine like Tebow hurts.

Do you know who has the most 4th quarter comebacks since Sanchez entered the league? Sanchez. But go on and pick one game and base your football opinion on that one game.
It's not that Tebow will pressure Sanchez, its that after one subpar game from Sanchez (which every QB has in a 16 game season) the media will be pushing a Tebow for starting QB campaign and every question will be about that to the team. Its going to be pretty distracting when every interview is going to have, "should Tebow be the starter?". You think we had a bad lockerroom last season, see what happens if you the media pushing for a storyline.

This is a no brainer. If the $5 million counts against the cap there's no way Jets do the deal, if it's just money out of Woody's pocket the Jets would be stupid not to pay it. The Tebow hype will be worth far more to Woody in advertising and sales then $5 when all is said and done. The same obviously can't be said about the Jags who are in a much smaller market with much lower revenue, so you can't make a comparison to that deal.

Like most of the sportswriters, most of the hate on this forum is not with the player, but with his politics.
For me, I dislike tebow not because of his politics, but because of all the hype a mediocre at best QB gets because of his politics. If he wasn't so vocal about his religion people wouldn't make such a big deal about him. People wouldn't ignore the fact that there was some incredibly fortuitous happenstance that occured in many of his "miracle wins". Like the entire steelers starting D-line hurt in the wildcard game, The run out of bounds and then fumble in the chicago game, or the fact that if jim leonhard doesn't miss a tackle by inches that drive against the jets is a 3 play game clinching safety. Maybe he does have god on his side and it is often better to be lucky than good, but his talent level as a QB is grossly overrated because he is an evangelist.

There are several Tebow threads dealing with different issues. Negating a deal is a specific issue compared to the general whining of almost 1500 responses.

No matter how this turns out, Tannenbaum looks like an amateur. Don't you read the contract BEFORE the trade is announced? I read that Jacksonville didn't make the trade because of the problems in the contract. Now Tannenbaum looks like idiot either way. If he takes the contract, every GM in the league will look at him funny. If it doesn't happen, people will want to know why it was announced in the first place?
Tanny agree to the trade before Denver asked for the 5 million. If anything Tanny almost got the trade and left Denver paying the 5 million on the contract.
That's what I got from the tweet "Jets-Broncos agreed to Tim Tebow trade before Denver asked NY to pay back portion of bonuses and salary already paid to Tebow. No deal yet."
It means Tanny agreed to the deal before Denver asked.

Hey, if you don't like his politics, that's fine. But for all the "hype" he gets from people who agree with his politics, there's equal or more hatred from people who disagree. And let's face it, they see him as worse than he is because of it.

That, for the most part, has happened for the Islanders for me.
When for 20 or so years the ownership does its best to get players to the point hwere they are ready for the NHL, or Rushes them to the league, and then trades them, you grow very tired of it. The Contracts to Yashin and Ricky killed them for me. I barley even watch NHL games any more except for the finals now.
The Jets moves may be questionable at times, but at least they are trying to win.

Totally false....Tebow is a legend in Jacksonville and would probably be good for 10,000 -20,000 season ticket sales in Year 1. He would easily generate $20-$30 MM in revenue for Jacksonville.

We have 1 half back. Sporano likes to run the wild cat. Tebow is the number 1 candidate for any wildcat offense. Tebows completion % was low because he attempted and completed a fair amount of big plays something the Jets were awful with last year. With Plax gone our goal line o struggles but Tebow will help that as well as 3rd and short. He sells well and is a leader on the field something that people here were dying for before. it is also just possible that our alleged gm , the contracts guru, completed agreement on a trade WITHOUT even reading the actual contract?
this is the same guy who had hunter at right tackle last year while sitting on $11 million in salary cap space, while teams like the ravens, chiefs , and chargers brought in capable vets to give themselves a shot at the playoffs.

The way I see it is that the Broncos gave him a salary advance last season bc he was playing well. Thats the money they owe him for taking the Broncos to the playoffs... As Manish said Why would the Jets pay $5.1M to the Broncos for a player that will be used as a No. 2/3 QB, H-back/Wildcat threat? Im guessing it such a big deal bc the extra $5.1M would go against our salary cap, but spread out btw 3 years its not bad, only an exta $1.3M a year.

Either way Tanny is coming out of this looking bad. Let him write contracts/manage the cap, let someone else make football decisions
Really, this doesn't matter. It will get done or they will have him for the next three years. They would have to GIVE a team Tebow and a third round pick (maybe a second) to have somebody give them 5 million bucks.

People are blinded by the fact that Tim Tebow sucks as a QB and as soon as the NFL has enough film on him he's going to go from leading his team to subpar offensive results to leading his team to terrible offensive results.
The guy is not an NFL QB. He doesn't have the mechanics down and in two seasons with the Broncos and with the freaking tutelage of John Elway, who was a similar type of player although a hundred times better, he wasn't willing to fix that and make himself into a possible NFL QB.
Why do you think John Elway wants to get rid of him after he lead the broncos to the playoffs for the first time in a long time last season?
Just answer that one question and you'll understand why the Jets should be running screaming into the parking lot right now and thanking their lucky stars that they didn't read the contract before they made this move.

I see you forgot to mention the shellacking the pats put on him the following week after he beat the Steelers. The steelers defense was arrogant in that game and played undisciplined that's why they were beat.
The pats stayed disciplined the following week and Tebow did nothing.
MS is a better player than Tebow.
