I don't know how I feel about this move.
I love the move because it gives us a fantastic wildcat especially with Sparano here. This could be dangerously good.
I hate the move because Sanchez needs to be the starter of this team and has proven success and I will always support him. I fear that people will be screaming for Tebow to start if something goes wrong in 1 game.

It depends.
If Rex comes out and say he's a TE/WR and makes it clear he is NOT a QB on the roster, then I am sorta happy.
If they "anoint" him #2 QB, it's going to be a shit storm of epic proportions. Fans/media will be calling for Sanchez's head after every non-perfect game. Then I will be pissed

tim tebow is a fucking embarassment and not a fucking football player. i couldn't give two shits if he wins us 10 regular season games. once playoffs hits he'll be exposed as a fraudulent piece of crap.
Way to mask the hatred. For the record, the man you say will "be exposed as a fraudulent piece of crap" in the playoffs won a playoff game last year. He beat the Steelers, something Sanchez failed to do.

Tanny wants to see what the guys at kissingsuzykolber will write about it.
Sanchez is mentally weak, period. He crumbled under pressure all year, last year. We all wanted to blame Schotty, I hated Schotty too, but Sanchez has to shoulder some of the blame. Honestly, who is the last "great" SC quarterback to make it big in the League? He started 6 games in college, in a weak league. Tebow played four years, in the toughest conference in college football. He took over a team that was 1-4 and led that team to the playoffs. Anyone see Sanchez doing that? At the end of last year, just about the entire team was throwing him under the bus for quitting. I'll take a guy like Tebow any day, over a pampered prince like Sanchez.

Man, talk about the overreaction.
Fact: Tebow will not start because of fan pressure. Tebow zealots will be a tiny minority at Jets games and are a tiny minority of Jets fans. Lots of bible thumpers in Colorado and Florida-- not too many in NY.
Fact: If Tebow starts, it will be because he earned it, i.e. Sanchez really takes a nose dive.
Fact: He's still a great asset in the red zone or 2pt conversions. Even when everyone knows he's running he's still tough to stop.

And you are basing that on what? The guy played 11 games, went 7-4. In those 4 losses, the opponents combined score was 133 pts, for an average of 33 pts per game. Did Tebow lose those games or did his defense? He won a playoff game, and lost to the eventual AFC Champion. NE scored 45 pts in that game. In the head to head matchup with Sanchez, who played better? Tebow or Sanchez?
May be based on the fact that only Blaine Gabbert was worst than him numbers wise.

wow some overreactions a 4th and a 6th to much well the 6th and 7th wash and the 4th cant be offset with our compensation picks. We still have a full draft worth of picks settle down folks settle down. At worst we have a 1million dollar semi distraction that players shouldnt get into anyway. At best a tough wildcat option who should push sanchez to play his best and practice hard
Exactly! All the haters will be proven wrong because they are basing their opinions on hate and emotion rather than rational thought. I predict the Jets will have a better season than the Broncos and their head puppet master John Wrongway.

I really thought he was going to Jax. Just seems like bringing in a guy to run the WC a few times a game isn't worth the risk of the same guy being able to divide the team/fans.

Tim Tebow is a good football player. The Jets are a football team. If utilized properly (H-back at times, some RB action, occasional QB action), he will be an asset. You understand?
Cakes - the voice of reason.
Have to agree. I still think its a bad move cause the 4th rounder might have landed us another OL depth or WR or even trade bait to move up. However, if TebowChrist is in on 25% or more of the snaps as a HB or even a WR then it will definitely throw off other teams cause they won't know what the fuck is coming next.

Tebow will never survive in the NY Media as a QB considering even CNBC just made fun of him for PowerLunch. That obviously leads me to believe if anything he's a back up but more likely, he's our answer to the Patriots TE system. To have a TE who you can occasionally line up at QB or RB and know will get you some yards is a damn good thing.
The only possibility he plays QB is in games Sanchez is throwing a lot of picks, the offense is dead, and needs a spark. In that instance, you'll see a run heavy Tebow based scheme to get us back in it.
I would have rather inked Manning if we were going to do anything with this at all. Even though Tebow is a product of today's SEC where he was unbeatable by all except Ole Miss, he's of another era, one before the forward pass, and is a waste of cap space.
The only fear should be some kind of idiot two QB scheme being drawn up over the offseason now.

Sanchez has proven success? Where?? Not last year. If the Colts can let Peyton Manning go, why the kissing of Sanchez's rear? If Sanchez "needs" to be the starter, let him go out and prove it in training camp. Make him earn his snaps like every one else.

This may have finally done it. After 27 years of following the Jets remotely I think this move may finally push me over the edge to just root for my home team (sadly now the AZ Cardinals). As I was driving after I heard the news I saw a car with a license plate that read "FED UP". That's the way that I feel right now. To give up a more than fourth rounder for Tebow and his baggage is ludicrous.
The issues far outweigh the benefits in this deal. With all of the talent that the Jets need in real positions (S,OLB, ILB, OL, RB, blocking TE, WR) why give up a draft choice and bring this circus in? If Mark is what you want and hope him to be then what great added value does a wildcat QB have (especially with Kerley able to fill that role)? Why pay Sanchez all that money and then bring in someone who is probably not going to be satisfied with a wildcat / backup role?
It's just another in a disjointed move that this franshise has put us through. There have been so many mistakes and contradictory moves that this franchise (I can't call them an organization because they don't show any) has made that defy logic. It shows another instance where this FO wants to do the "cute / big headline" thing instead of just making good / basic football moves.

Haha, I didn't even think about that part of it, but that's bound to happen.
And I'm sure I'll get a million requests saying HAY CAN I CHANGE MY NAME FROM MADBACKER57 to GODQB15?
(not meant to make fun of any particular poster's username, just picked a player who might not be hear next year)
Tebow can be an asset here. And he will sell tickets. It's not as awful as I first thought it would be, but if Sanchez doesn't play well, this could turn out disastrous. If Sanchez plays well, then Tebow can remain a gimmick QB who is used in Wildcat and possibly elsewhere from time to time.
If Sanchez plays poorly, the Tebow chants are going to begin. Then again, I think Rex would love to win the way the Broncos were winning lat year, by never actually throwing the ball.

I have mixed feelings on this Tebow trade. On the one hand he has a knack for winning games because he's fast.
However, after the Jets extended Sanchez's contract I'm not sure why they brought in Tebow other than to increase revenue and sell PSL's.
I sometimes wonder if the Jets really want to be a quality team and take it to the next level. It seems to me that Woody Johnson just wants to make money, get in the back page and if as a by product of pulling off some splashy trades they make it to the Superbowl, well that's just gravy.
I truly hope Sanchez steps it up next year and Tebow takes only limited snaps.

May be based on the fact that only Blaine Gabbert was worst than him numbers wise.
How many playoff games did Gabbert win? Let me ask you a question. If you had the choice between Sanchez throwing for 4,000 yards and Tebow winning a Super Bowl which would you take? All I am asking for, is the guy be given a chance to compete. All you want is for Sanchez to be handed the reins to a team, he failed to lead last year.

Sanchez doesn't deserve what? He is being forced to earn his position after a mediocre bordering on bad year. If you had the year Sanchez had at work, would your Boss hesitate to fire you or give someone else a run at your position? This is a business pure and simple. If the Colts can let Manning walk after winning them a Superbowl and being "the guy" in that community for all those years, then surely precious Mark can have a little competiton in Cortland, no?

It's not even so much the Sanchez contract that miffs me a bit, it's that we just signed Stanton to be the backup. If you know Tebow is coming available, why don't you wait on Stanton for a week until the Tebow situation shakes out? It just seems like we blew a bit of money on Stanton for no reason, if you believe McElroy is your 3rd string/clipboard holder all along.

About 80% of the fans in the bar were wrapped up in watching Tebow instead of watching the Jets and going crazy every time he made a play. Anyone who thinks fans won't be clamoring for this guy to take the field as soon as Sanchez throws his first pick is probably sadly mistaken.

Tebow won't be listed as #2. Sanchez will have to lose his job to somebody else before Tebow ever became part of the conversation.
You're in denial if you think the Jets aren't gonna let tebow compete for the QB job.
If they tell tebow he's gonna strictly be a role player with no chance to be the QB, he's the type that may just walk away and move onto his missionary work.

Everyone needs to settle down, like really its not that serious. Sanchez is fragile, im hearing it over and over again ESPN, im in fully in support of him. And maybe Tebow isnt the competition that we might have all wanted(like it or not he is competition, dont care what the FO says).
The way i see it Sanchez was never going to end up like Eli Manning obviously Rex, Sparano felt like we needed to add something, hell anything to the offense. We have all been begging the FO to do something anything to add some firepower to this team, well there you have we now have Tebow.

I'm not suggesting that this acquisition is fool proof or that there isn't immense risk involved. But this whole notion is gonna shine light on who in the media and NFL fan base understands football and who doesn't.Tebow isn't a Jet to be conventional QB back-up to Sanchez. All the "Tebow can't throw" and "What does this do to Sanchez's confidence" is all a waste of breath.
He's here as an all purpose back w/ the ability to play QB sparingly if needed. He's an ideal fit in the wild cat, he commands respect of the locker room & simply put can make big plays to will a team to the finish line.
He's unique in the sense that he IS a threat to Sanchez, but not in a traditional drop back passer sense. If Sanchez and/or the passing game struggles..the jets can completely change to a wildcat look in as pinch. It's something the opposition will need to prepare & account for. I like the move for Tim Tebow the football player..not Tim Tebow the starting QB.
has anyone here even thought about the fact that the Jets may have spoken to Tebow's reps and maybe Tebow told Elway to trade him to the jets
I don't believe either Florida team made an offer..Miami certainly didn't and nobody but the owner in Jacksonville wanted to.

The Jets are only paying Stanton to measly one year deal for $1.25 million. Money isn't the issue here.

Tony Sparano paired up with Tim Tebow in the wildcat. Sanchez worked well with Brad Smith. The pressure wasn't all on him. When Brad left his presence was missed. The Jets are going back to this formula. I see it as a good change.
Tebow might be a nice addition if the fans and media could be content with him in a limited role as a wildcat specialist, but that won't be the case. The team is going to have a quarterback controversy from the moment training camp begins. I'll be shocked if this doesn't turn into a total, dysfunctional clusterfuck.

I think he can work on this team, and I expect him to mainly play as a HB officially. I can see him taking some snaps while Mark breaks huddle & heads out wide. Perhaps throwing occasionally. I can also see him as our short yardage QB. The guy will be our Slash.
The only thing I really hope happens is that the media & sponsors get so preoccupied with Tebow, that Sanchez ends up actually having fewer distractions. Through at least Halloween, Sanchez will be a forgotten man flying under the radar.

Thanks for that educated and insightful opinion. Question: Was Sanchez in the playoffs this year? Tebow had a better year than Sanchez, if your definition is winning, and at this level..That's what it's about.
Haha, you're a moron AND a hypocrite. If you're going to talk about winning, are you going to just discount the fact that Sanchez brought this team to two AFC Championship games, and played great in both those games? Are you going to discount the fact that the Broncos were 8-8 last year, the same record as the Jets? And that Sanchez went 9-7 and 11-5 the previous two years? Oh yeah, you are, because we already established you were brain dead.

You do realize that we got a 7th rounder back from Denver right? Effectively there isn't much difference between 6th and 7th rounders. So we really only gave up a 4th for Tebow (which is a little high but not terrible).
Considering we are expecting to have 3-4 comp picks in the draft, the cost isn't that bad. The only question is how much Tebow will help the team.

I love the trade for Tim Tebow.
First of all for the people bitching about the media circus, you do not make moves based upon media perceptions and what they mean to the team.
Second he is not going to be the quarterback. You don't sign Sanchez to the guaranteed money that he has gotten to allow a quarterback competition. Mr. Johnson did not succeed at J & J and with the Jets by making moves like this.
You all saw how successful Tebow could be in Denver as a wildcat quarterback on occasion (he is a glorified wildcat quarterback). This would not work the entire game as you saw there were teams who shut him down. He will be great in the H-back and wildcat route. Can you imagine Tebow lining up at the running back position for 5 or 6 plays a game, while lining up in the wildcat for a drive or 2.
For those of you complaining how this hurts Mark Sanchez, you cannot have it both ways. Cant say he has been coddled and then complain when they bring in a player that wont even compete with him for the starting job. And for people saying how it will affect him when people call for Tebow to take his job after 1 start. This happens to every fan base. There are even Gaytriot fans who were bitching about Tommy Boy after his Super Bowl performance. Wow great twitter is going to want Tebow to start. Cool if twitter ruled the world Justin Bieber would be the president right now.
Bottom line do you get a player that can do what Tebow can do for a 4th round pick? The answer is probably no.

Explain why it is a bad move? They gave up nothing. At bare minimum, he is a threat on short yardage situations and on 3rd downs. The guy has 11 games under his belt, and went 7-4. He took a last place team and went to and won a playoff game. Maybe he pushes Sanchez, who according to numerous teammates "quit" on his team last year.

Tebow does not have a golden ticket to a starting QB position. He needs to earn it, same as 32 other starting QBs in the NFL. He had a chance, he had success, but obviously his organization didn't believe in him.

Woah woah woah. Everyone's hating on the Tebow trade. We didn't trade for Tebow to become our backup QB. He's probably going to be third string. We traded for him to do other things like what Brad Smith did a couple years ago, but hopefully better. We traded a fifth and sixth round for him, and he's only getting paid $2-3 mil per season. By no means is he expected to save our team or be our savior. But he's not going to be our QB, that's for sure. Good move Tanny!

Ummm...That's what I said. I was responding to someone saying we gave up 2 picks for him, I was pointing out that we also got one back.
And my point is the same, when it comes to the draft, effectively there isn't much difference between 6th and 7th rounders. Hell there isn't much difference between them and undrafted players. So the question is a 4th too much for Tebow, maybe a little.

No. John Elway said that Tebow wasn't the right guy to start in Denver and he wound up buried under a tsunami of Tebowmania. If Elway can't hold the line then there's no line to be held.
Tebow is going to be the Jets starting QB by mid-season next year unless the Jets manage to plug the holes at RT and WR and possibly one of the guards as well.
You can almost write it down.
You have to make the move. Do you really think Rex would make that move? Kyle Orton is making a lot less money than Mark Sanchez.

This move happened for several reasons, first I don't believe the Jets FO wanted the pats to get him. The Pats have been trying for days to get Tebow. Bellicheck wanted to draft Tebow and finally had another chance to get him. This is purely my opinion. Also, this team has been in shambles since the close of the season. Noone wanted to come here of the top FA's, it has just been bad. I am sure the fo feel Tebow is the high character signing that could make an impact somehow.
Next and most important to me. I have read too many posts about Sanchez and what this will do to his psyche. Well, the mistake the fo has made with him from the beginning was not having anyone behind him pushing him. This resulted in him not progressing as much as he should have. Instead, we watched him slide backwards. To avoid the calls of the fans for Tebow, Sanchez now has to put the time in film, study, practice and then perform on Sundays. So, this signing will make him or break him! I hope it will wake him up and push him towards greatness.

Let's keep the emotional stuff out of here and actually talk about the team, and how he will affect it in 2012.
I'm very concerned about the move. I hope that Rex sets the tone for Tebow's role, does not waiver, and does not let him sniff the QB position. Otherwise I can't imagine this helps this Jets team win a Super Bowl.

Tebow does not have a golden ticket to a starting QB position. He needs to earn it, same as 32 other starting QBs in the NFL. He had a chance, he had success, but obviously his organization didn't believe in him.
If some team thought he was worth more to them (the Jaguars) than the Jets did they would've or should've ponied up more in a trade offer.
Tebow can earn another starting QB job.
But Sanchez does? That is the problem. No one is annoiting Tebow as the starter, but to insist that Sanchez is untouchable is foolish.

Good trade which gives us more flexibility on offense. Essentially, it's costing a fourth since we're getting comp picks.

You sound a lot like the Christian hating US government and the media. If people have the right to bash religion then why can't people talk good about it? Oh yeah, because it doesn't fit into the world's current liberal/marxist ideology.
Don't turn this into a religious bashing discussion, I can't stand how people hate Tebow just because he's religious. Does he go overboard in the public forum? Possibly, but there are many religious players in the NFL, on the Jets, and even on these forums not just Tebow. There's no need to bash religion.
Easy now rudeboy, not every joke is how it seems (read the whole post, and honestly, if you think I'm party to the left wing agenda in this country you spend little time in the BS forum)
If the Jets are able to use him as a fullback and h-back, and maybe even situational tight end, defenses will never be able to predict a wildcat play by a personnel change. It would be deadly. Stupid not to use it.
That's true, the only success in this move is with him at FB, TE, or RB. Maybe an occasional trick play or relief for Sanchez during a bad game, but with the cap hit is it really worth it to pay him starter money for being a trick player?

I feel the same way man. Sorry to my fellow jet fans but I'm ready to bail after 30 years.

Our offense was terrible last year. The way I see it is Tebow can be an offensive weapon for this team. We badly missed the Brad Smith wildcat last year and in fact I was hoping we would draft a QB WR convert this year to replace Smith which we didnt do last year. So if handled right this can be a good thing.
The upside is this. We can use the wildcat to spark the offense and control the ball. It is an extra wrinkle that teams will need to prepare for and will cause confusion on the opposing D and that could lead to big plays.
The downside is this. The fan base will be very split over this move so one false move and the fans and media will be calling for Tebow to take the reins. I think it's very important that Rex is clear that Sanchez is the starter and Tebow will be used in the wildcat and specialty offensive player type role. The other downside is giving up two picks for him in a year we need depth. Not the greatest time to do so. Hopefully they can do something to at least get the 6th rounder back.

In an offseason where we needed to lay low, lick our wounds, stay out of the limelight and draft wisely, we trade 2 picks and bring the full media pressure and spotlight back fully on the team. I hate this move.

Think about this. An upgraded version of Brad Smith. It adds a whole new dimension to the Offense. A dimension which Sparano knows how to run.

Anyone that competes at anything, always wants to be better. Its about beating the other guy every time. This is a straw man argument. Every QB, with very few exceptions (Think Leaf, Jamarcus Chubby) put tons of work in to perfect their craft and get better.

I don't mind the deal at all. I see him as a Brad Smith replacement for the Wildcat role.
I'm a Sanchez fan, and I think with a new OC he should do fine this season. However, if Tebow's presence and fans chanting for a back-up QB during a rough game so damages his psyche that he can't do the job, then it wouldn't matter if it were Greg McElroy or Drew Stanton backing him up, then he's simply not up to the job.

Explain to me where it says that Sanchez has a divine right to the Quarterback position? This is killing me. Sanchez had a mediocre to bad year last year, why is there such angst to even let him have just a little competition? If Sanchez's psyche is really that fragile, he doesn't belong as an NFL quarterback, plain and simple. Look what Tebow went through all last year. He sat behind Orton and did nothing but say the right things and do the right things, and when given a chance succeeded and led his team to a playoff win.

I don't think Woody understands what the Jets have just done here. If they have a weak season next year he and the organization are going to be the kind of laughingstock that doesn't wash away easily if at all.

The thing is that Tebow is WORSE then Sanchez and everybody thinks he's better.

The Jets offer for Tebow is a 6th and a 2013 conditional pick which could be up to a 4th...
He got the picks right :)

Funny thing is they did it correctly the first couple years. Great defense and running game.
No, they didn't. They didn't go ground and pound until Sanchez had been raked over the coals several times. They drafted him and threw him on the field and yelled "SUPER BOWL!" They changed his personnel around endlessly with Mike Tannenbaum trying out wide receivers the way a high school girl changes outfits.
Nothing the Jets have done with Mark Sanchez has been an effective way to develop a young QB and now they have just done probably the most stupid thing they could possibly do. Signing Peyton would at least have meant cutting Sanchez. Now they have locked themselves in with him for two years and thrown the worst possible QB controversy in his face. A controversy created not by his opponent's skills but by his beliefs.
I already saw Tannenbaum as a weak player for the Jets. This move is making me heavily re-evaluate Woody Johnson as well.

I have to agree... they just popped a can of dumbass all over themselves with this one...

You think it's worth trading a 4th and 6th for a player who will most likely see 5 snaps a game?
Would Brad Smith be worth a 4 and a 6?
Tebow will be great running the wildcat.
I can only see good things happening with this move.
Now of course he sucks as a regular under center QB, but as a running
QB ith an occasional pass thrown in. :-) Tebow will do great in his limited roll.

Banworthy? So all the months of posts begging for Chad Henne were ok? And all the people who want McElroy over Sanchez? lol c'mon. I said Tebow would be a great Brad Smith type player nothing more. I'd like to discuss the needs of the team, but most threads don't. Hence the thread of Green-Ellis.
Welcome to the board of in the box thinking. Don't ever look outside the box. This is not a message forum, but a cult of one way of thinking.

Please explain how this new type of offense will be run.
Seriously.
What different can Tebow bring to this Jets offense besides the Wildcat under Sparano which the league is already familiar with?

This is either the best or worst move in franchise history. TBD......
No shot it will be the worst when you consider some of the assholes they wasted 1st rd picks on thriugh the years.

Because they didn't get a fully capable backup QB.

Eh. Brad Smith was also a special teams ace (tackling and kick returning) plus chipped in catching the ball for 300+ receiving yards. Can Tebow duplicate that?

How can you bring Manning into the Sanchez discussion? Competition will push you towards greatness. I saw the story the other day on espn about stink always told rookies to come to the stadium on Tuesdays, which is when the pats always brought in players to compete for someones job. Competition pushes you to do better. Just my opinion.
because the argument people are trying to make is that competition is required to push you towards greatness, not that it can do so if you aren't self driven. they are claiming that Sanchez hasn't excelled because he hasn't worked hard enough due to a lack of competition.
that is completely made up and nobody claiming such has anything tangible to base that on.
if competition was so dire, every great QB in history would haven't have been as successful if they were not driven by competition by another player. so, Manning is a perfect example because who was the great QB that drove him to succeed out of fear of losing his job? what about Joe Montana? the list goes on and on.
you don't need competition from another player to be great if you are self-motivated and have a personal competitive desire to succeed.

It's a win win. Sanchez is under a gun to perform like never before now. We have our wildcat from the days of brad smith back at the very least. At the worst Sanchez Crumbles and Tebow takes over.

what does "good with a headset" mean? I ask because while the #1 knock on tebow is his horrific throwing mechanics the #1A knock on him is that he has no idea how to read a defense. If his #1 option wasn't open last year he ran. So what exactly would he be contributing with a headset on?
"RUN, MARK...RUN"
If i wanted somebody to wear the headset i'd much rather have mcelroy, brunell...hell pennington would be awesome "wearing a headset" and all of them would be as good or better than tebow if they had to play.
FYI, the Mic cuts out after the ball is snapped, from what I understand.
Gotta love ESPN...to a man (or woman) they are marching to the microphone to say why this is such a bad move by the Jets..of course most of them were saying yesterday that he should be traded to the Patriots...what does that say? Do they have no sense of shame at all?...lol

Tebow Snap Prediction:
3-5 snaps per game in the Wildcat
3-5 snaps per game as the short yardage QB
5-7 snaps per game at a non-QB position (HB, TE, etc.)

Than so be it. didn't the media & unidentified Jet players just get done 2 months ago proclaiming that Sanchez needed someone to "push him"? You can't have it both ways.
Tebow is perfect in the sense that he doesn't threaten just Sanchez..he threatens the entire conventional passing game. If sanchez doesn't move the ball downfield & the offense is flat, they can switch to a power wild cat ran by Tebow.

Has any team ever been successful with 2 QBs that are fairly equal (or close to it) in skill working as a "team" and playing off each other?
