** ESPN’s Chris Mortensen has confirmed that Colts QB Peyton Manning underwent another neck surgery this morning. Mort called it a “cervical fusion” and says Manning is expected to be out another 2-3 months. No word yet on whether the team will place him on IR, but it has to be considered a possibility. Even the short end of that timetable would knock Manning out for the first 8 or 9 weeks – and that’s assuming he’s ready to play immediately after being cleared by doctors. Kerry Collins is Indianapolis’ starter for the foreseeable future

Rough day for the Colts. Guess this means they won't make the playoffs.

They can easily win 10 games with Collins. They'll be ok.

That actually made me laugh out loud and I had to explain why to my wife.
They aren't saying he is done for the year, just 2-3 months. If somehow they manage to stay close they won't IR him hoping he can come back if they make the playoffs. At least they won't for awhile.

I don't know what that means, but whatever it is I'm not.
I just said they won't be the worst team in the league, they can win some games and that's it.

2-3 moths... not on IR yet... hope he's healthy for wk 13 vs the Pats! Sucks we get to play Houston with their new D and the PAts will play the Colts prob without Manning.

At the risk of sounding cliched we cannot be worried about what the Pats are doing and just focus on winning and start with week 1. Fuck the Patriots, fuck Houston, let them start fearing us.

The New England Pastes are destined to lead the NFL in wins, raise the envied and coveted something trophy that division winners hoist and then forget how to play versus good teams in the playoff tournament.
Dynasty.

If it's a forgone conclusion then why the fuck bother playing the regular season? Lets just give everyone the W/L record that ESPN and NFL Network predicts and start the damn playoffs already?

That sucks for Manning and the Colts organization. Hate to see anybody injured.
No sympathy for the Colts and their fans from me. They've had the benefit of having arguably the greatest QB in history, now we'll see exactly how big of a joke that roster is. Their D blows, their run game and OL is trash, the One Man Team is without The Man and I personally love it. 4-12.

I can think of several players whose injuries can't be painful enough for my liking.

I can't see that happening in light of Manning's recent contract... It'd be a great turn of events for them to get #1 and trade it for a stupid amount of picks and load up on much needed talent elsewhere; But I don't see them being Cincinatti-bad without P Manning. If Manning misses the entire season, I think they go 6-10/5-11. (I'll change it from 4-12)

You're going to complain about the Colts/Texans and not mention the luck factor of facing a Cowboy team beat to shit or a Jag team that released a pretty good starting veteran QB and is starting a crappy rookie?

They won't take Luck...they may trade the pick for some teams' entire draft but they won't take him. Manning got a new deal and they owe him about 60 million guaranteed...oh and he never took a physical...haha.

True... if they have to play a really good team like the Ravens again, it could be tough.
Ironically, since this thread is about the Colts and you decided to bring the Patriots into it, the projected recovery time for Manning (who is not on IR... yet) would have him back just after Thanksgiving. The Patriots-Colts game is the first week of December.

Ok, I'll say it.... How ironic would it be that the year the Jets finally reach the superbowl is the year that we don't have to face Peyton Manning? Would it be as fulfilling? I'd take it anyway.

Before any of this news it seemed like one of the AFC "playoff caliber" teams was going to be the odd man out this year (Patriots, Jets, Chargers, Steelers, Ravens, Texans, Colts).
Now it almost seems like those teams (minus Indy) are just battling for division titles and higher seeds.
Of course it is never quite that simple. KC is a decent "suprise candidate" to steal a spot from one of the others. And there is always the feared "Kerry Collins factor". I think this injury has a pretty serious effect on the level of competition in this conference though.

^ Couldn't agree more. The Titans could steal a playoff spot, though.

Frankly, I didn't think that the Colts were making the playoffs even with Manning. Without him, they're fucked.
Also, listening to the ESPN hyperbole about Peyton now that he's injured is insane. Ron Jaworski just said in all seriousness that because of Manning's pre-snap reads, the opposing defense is never prepared for any play that the offense runs.
Tell that to Tracy Porter.
Manning is one of the top 3 QBs in football, sure, but he's a mortal just like the rest of us.

Damn, right after I draft him in the sixth. Am I missing something, is he out for 8-10 weeks or is it the whole season?

No offense, but I am not sure why so many people took that risk drafting him. In an auction league if you could pick him up cheap and stash him on the bench then that I get. But otherwise, he is not worth it.

Actually missed the draft and got him as my #1QB in the 6th round. This before the last operation though.

I see, autodraft. Not much you can do there.
