NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he felt "deceived" by Bill Belichick in the wake of the Spygate scandal in 2007, telling Sports Illustrated recently that the New England Patriots coach did not fulfill his obligation to "tell his side of the story" after the league handed down its punishment for illegally videotaping opponents.
After he issued fines of $500,000 to Belichick and $250,000 to the team, and docked the Patriots a first-round draft pick, Goodell said he told team owner Robert Kraft that, as another part of the penalty, that Belichick would have to make a verbal apology in front of reporters. Belichick issued only a printed statement apologizing for his actions and refused to answer questions in a subsequent news conference.
"I was given assurances that [Belichick] would tell his side of the story," Goodell told Sports Illustrated. "He went out and stonewalled the press. I feel like I was deceived."
Belichick denied the allegation to SI.
"I did not make any assurances about thoroughly discussing the subject publicly," he told the magazine. "I said I would address it following the league's review. I then did that in a way I thought was appropriate. I don't think that was deceptive."

Amazing. Belli literally gives it to the commissioner in the ass, and the commish does nothing besides put his tail between his legs.
Goodell is a grade-A hypocritical jerkoff.

with the talk of wanting to expand the NFL into Europe, making the QBs basically unhittable (well, some of them anyway), and now this....Goodell is starting to creep into Gary Bettman territory, in regards to commissioner ineptitude.
I hate this asshole.

Right, the guy acts like he doesn't fucking run the league. I can just picture him sitting in his office throwing a hissy fit and lowering his head in defeat.

Yeah but he's gonna reduce his pay to a dollar if there's a lockout. Of course, as commissioner it's his one fucking job to make sure there isn't a lockout

Basically Goodell is admitting he has no control over the league... He should resign today

Haha yep.
And nothing is more irritating than the "it was taken out of context" excuse. The only thing more irritating is the "somebody hacked my twitter" excuse

maybe bill got the idea that he could do whatever he wanted to do when you burned up all the evidence that the patriots ever cheated, roger.
maybe that wasn't exactly the best way to show who was in charge of the league.
maybe the loss of the 32nd pick in a draft where they held a higher pick and an "assurance" to say i'm sorry to the press wasn't exactly the best way to demonstrate your power over the league.
maybe you should have done something then instead of telling reporters 4 years later that big bad bill belichick lied to you.
MAYBE YOU SHOULD HAVE SUSPECTED HE MIGHT LIE BECAUSE YOU JUST CAUGHT HIM FUCKING CHEATING, ROGER. MAYBE THAT'S WHAT CHEATERS DO. THEY FUCKING LIE.
fuck you roger.

He's ruining the NFL....bottom line.
Only a clusterfuck like Goodell could take a profitable/entertaining sports league like the NFL, pussify it,and then eventually run it into the ground.
There's absolutely NO REASON why the league should be heading towards a lockout......the issues that are preventing a deal are fucking miniscule. This league is a money-making machine for all parties involved....why are you fucking with this?!!

I strongly dislike Goodell but I'm not sure how much influence he really has over the pending lockout. It seems it's mostly the owners (especially big market owners) are to blame.

I don't know what's worse, that he let Belli lie to him and not do anything about it, or that he is whining about it as if he is powerless to do anything about it. what a f'ing pussy. the spirit of Bart Giamatti needs to descend from Commissioner heaven and sodomize his bitch ass.

Yeah, it's one group of owners vs another group of owners from what I can tell.

Oh...i agree with you.
But the guy is the commissioner...he's got to carry some weight with the owners.
I'm just really angry with the situation. The league-wide fanbase is off the charts and the league has revenue coming out their bungholes.
I really don't want to see the league suffer because of indifferences between the owners and players. Work that shit out! Because the fans will be the ones to suffer if this gets drawn out.
I'm already baring witness to Gary Bettman ruining hockey.....I don't want to watch the NFL go through the same garbage.

I hate to break it to you guys but I hope you know, one of Goodell's biggest advocates, is Robert Kraft. From Anecdotal evidence, reading and such the owners love this guy.
We the fans hate his guts and hope this faggot burns but he is the owners employee at the end of the day. He wouldn't piss on a fan if one of us was on fire.
What was he in a coma. Or has he been in therapy and believes its time to confess?

The Goodell-hating bandwagon amuses me.
The NFL is bringing in more viewers and raking in more cash than it ever has. Ratings records were blown away left and right this season.
Do I like some of the new rules/ideas he's pushing? No, but from his side, it's about protecting his product.
And the reason for the lockout/impasse/CBA issues is, teams have more expenses along with more revenues, stadiums and what not, the shit that is bringing in the money. The players still get their gigantic percentage, right off the top. The owners want either a smaller percentage, or a different number for that same percentage to be taken out of, ie after some expenses.
You can bash Goodell all you'd like, but unless there is a stoppage, the NFL is very, very healthy.

What does any of that have to do with Goodell basically saying "aw shucks that ole belichick got me again!"

Caught a bit of his press conference at the gym at lunch. Seems like he's really committed to the safety of the NFL players, and the continued pussification of the sport as a result.
Ochocinco asking him a question about the CBA was pretty funny. Gotta love that guy.
