Looks like I may be going to Mexico or Punta Cana (D.R.) around the last week of Feb. I've travelled a fair amount, but have never been to either place.
Any suggestions on either place? Pros? Cons?

Yeah, Pros - cheap beer and tequila.
Cons - you'll get your fucking head chopped off.

Heading to Mazatlan first week of March....free vacation (accomadations, air fare)...just have to pay for food.
And thanks to Abyz's post....I'll make sure I pack a JOFA hockey helmet.

Really? So all of D.R. and Mexico are riddled with violence? No one should vacation there ever?

We stopped in Cozumel for a day of our cruise last year and it was the bast day of the entire week. And I am pretty sure my head is still attached, but I will check later.

Not riddled with violence, although if you think you're totally safe because you're not in Juarez, you may be fooling yourself.
My main issue is that I try never to contribute to the economies of the most corrupt governments in the world.

The advice I have always heard is stay on the resort. Once you step off that land all bets are off.

I've seen 2 donkey shows down there. One that I can barely remember because I was out of my wits on mescaline, and the other I can remember too well because I was stone cold sober and because the chick was like 400 pounds. I liked the mescaline one better.

As long as you stay within the confines of the resort, you'll be fine. Being in any of those 4-star resorts in Mexico or D.R you're not going to want to venture out into town.

Tip well or you'll get a lot more than the tip.

I stayed at the Club Med in Punta Cana for a week with the family about 7 tears ago. Didn't leave the resort grounds except to go to and from the airport and play two rounds of golf at another resort. Great place and we had a very relaxing holiday. I recommend it highly.
