sure you can. As long as you don't root for the guy who sang the George Michael song, I don't see anything wrong with that.
This is the first season I have watched it, and I love it. I've always thought it was a dumb show, but it's great.
Someone should just give Taylor Hicks a recording contract now, and give his slot away. Nobody else stands a chance with him in there. From the women, Paris is just a great singer. She stands the best chance of winning the whole thing from the female side.

Geekboy! Kevin Covais is his name. He's a damn good singer. He's a little raw, and certainly won't win, but hearing that powerful voice come out of that geekyt little frame is actually pretty cool.

As a hip-hop fan, I stayed the hell away from this show for three years. Then I watched it with the start of the 2005 season because I understood I'd see a bunch of horrible, embarrassing people early on. Then I found myself rooting for a few of the good singers.
This season I like Taylor Hicks the most.
For looking at- Kellie Pickler. The vast majority of this board would not really like her, though, because she's too southern.

Taylor is an amazing singer. In fact, he's the only one who could record an album that I would actually buy. He's such a throwback with an original voice. And he can rip up the harp as well! Just a great performer.

Father, forgive me, I have sinned.. I have started watching American Idol and I must confess, it is freakinhg hilarious.. But seriously if this is the best america has to offer, than the future of this kind of music is in some deep shit, which is probably a good thing but.. There are maybe two of each sex that have some serious talent. The rest are average which anyone who can sing could do.. Someone please explain to me how that big dude who got voted off was one of the best 12 men in the whole country.. Finally Becky was very hot but boy was she a bad singer and that other girl voted off was better than at least half the girls that are left..

Sorry you missed last season. I was raised on country, and I can tell you Carrie Underwood is damn good. Best new artist coming into country in a decade. And with Bice singing Lynyrd Skynyrd, last year was really good.
I think the final four will be the grey haired guy, the bald rocker, Paris, and Modesa (or however you spell her name, that really big rocker woman who sang Heart). Sorry to early for me to remember their names yet.

I like Pickler, but she won't win because she is too similar to Carrie Underwood. Not voice I mean, Pickler's voice is not that good, but in appearance. She has that blonde southern small town thing like Underwood. And if you notice, if you look at the winners every year, the american audience never picks someone similar to who won in the past year.
Final 2 will be Hicks and the bald rocker (what the hell is his name). My prediction anyway, which could change.

Can't really argue against those picks. I think the final two SHOUDL be Taylor Hicks and Paris, but Chris the Bald Guy will probably make in place of Taylor. Not that he should, but the majority of voters are young girls, and they won't be into Taylor's style.

Whats great about him is his confidence. For such a goofy little kid he seems to be really content with who he is. That earned my respect.

McGee has a killer body which keeps me interested, Pickler never had CAL E MARY and is playing the blonde card to a T. I agree that Ellit and Gideon sang very good as well, but not as good as Chris when you consider the performance as a whole. Gideon is carving a nice niche for himself- when I look at the guy all I see is teeth, it's like a torso with teeth is singing, but he's very good, and should so some Otis Redding next week.
I think the one knock on Elliot is that he's pretty funny looking, I can't tell you what it is, but I don't see him as having the "It" factor like Chris.

Elliot- blew me away reminded me of a young Tony Bennet one of the best vocals I have every herd on the show.
Gedeon- is really a genius but I don't think most people who vote will get it.
Chris Doughtry- is very solid and confident could win
Taylor Hicks-Nice voice but he is starting to annoy one of the top 4 singers
Bucky-Good voice but totally lacks the power to impress
Ace-Over rated voice and will be carried a few rounds by Paula who is probably having sex with him.
Kevin Covias-he isn't in the same league as the top 4. Being a nerd only works if you have the goods.
David Radford-He would have been better off doing an impersonation of Dean Martin passed out
Sway-Over reached and was totally exposed
Will Maker-Brady look alike isn't enough.
Monday night the Girls
Ayla-Fair but will outwork the competition and stick around a few weeks
Heather-Poor but has a nice bitchy quality that might translate well in the sack
Pickler-Country and Western Poll dancer will stick around but is second rate
Kinnick-below average voice
Lisa-Okay but highly over-rated by the Judges
Mandisa-Potentially good but really isn’t great
Paris-Solid, not as good as the top 3 guys but outside of McPhee blows the female crowd away
Brenna-Sucks
McGhee-Has a good voice but she is a Betty on stage with a few Veronica's
McPhee-Potentially the best voice but Paris isn’t going to screw up and McPhee will

I disagree. If he stuck with Rock he would do fine...I've never bought an album from the other winners, but I would definitely check out one of his.

The best audition was Marcus in Greensboro.
He sang She's Out of My Life and held each note for like 2 days. Simon asked Marcus what he did. He said he sang. SO Simon then asked if he ever had vocal lessons. He replied "I actually have Randy and Paula's DVD." Simon went absolutely nuts laughing.
I really watch the bad singers b/c it makes me feel better about my own lousy voice. Once the auduition are over, I'm not into it.
And I like country music a lot, but Carrie had no business winning over Anwar, Lindsey (who's hot), Nadia, Bo, Or Vonzell.

Pretty dumb, why not use his newfound fame to get the band even greater exposure? What's to say that he might not make it all the way, then go home and rejoin the band?

Just an FYI the worst idols thus far have to be Reuben and Fantasia Burito, and don't give me the "because they are black thing," they just plain suck! I feel as if this year they finally have some contestants with some talent, between Chris, my large lovely Mandisa, Elliot and the Gideon...

No comparison last night- my large lovely Mandisa "brought the house down dog." Seriously though, she's very good, and her likability factor is pretty damm high. Behind her is Katherine who is turning into quite the piece of eye candy, with pipes to boot.
Everyone else was in a lower tier. I don't know about you guys but I'm not buying into the whole Pickler dumb blond thing, and actually feel as if it's being forced down our throats- she's really not that talented and isn't even the best looking one in the competition, so I don't get it.
Does the above analysis make me half-a-man?

9MAR06 Update- The guys went yesterday....
The guys were a bit stronger than the girls. A couple who stood out for me were the following:
1) Taylor- sounded pretty much dead on for Michael McDonald and really got into the song. I am sure that some people were put off by his "dancing" but the guy really just seems to immerse himself in the song. Definitely entertaining, and I look forward to seeing him sing.
2) Gideon- Definitely carving out his niche. The guy does soul/motown and does it very well. I don't know if he has the fan base but he certainly held his own this week.

lol...Koz...when Taylor was finished, my wife said "that was great...except the dancing".
Is it me? I think the guy is a cool dancer..no? He has an incredible beat to the music...its typical southern rock dancing. I love his performances...dancing included.
I agree about Ace. Maybe Im just getting too old for a song sung with about a 75% falsetto voice. It bored me..and reminded me of fingernails on chalkboards.
Peter Brady is a goner..and I would think its a bit of a toss up and maybe even a surprise on the other one.

I was pretty surprised by Ace. Of course my primal jealousy wants his ass kicked out so I can freely fantisize about the girls with no real comp. Sadly, I thought he was excellent. Elliot dissapionted. Great voice but following Taylor he appeared very flat.
Brady boy should be done and I would prefer if Elliot stays because I think he has the goods but the world of teenage female voters may be unkind to him.

Very true the people have spoken. Taylor has a stylized sound that I really like, I just think this kid showed more range tonight on his way out than any one else in the competition and for such a young kid it wouldn't surprise me that if he was handled properly he might have more in him than any of the other guys.

I think he can go far. He's an excellent performer, and a likable kid.
Bo Bice was freaking terrible. That's the first time I ever heard him sing. If he can have a platinum record, then having a platinum record has lost it's luster over the years. That was just horrible.

OK here we go folks, top 12 is thinning out.
Standouts on Stevie night last week. Let's see:
1) Taylor Hicks- the guy kicked some serious ass with his song, and his stage presence really draws the crowd in. I see this guy going very deep into the final rounds, if not taking it all.
2) Chris Daughtrey- didn't do the Chili Peppers justice, but then again it was a Stevie night- I like his delivery, the guy seems like a natural.
These are really the top 2 for me last night. Katherine is getting hotter and hotter and I really don't care what she sings.
The crap de la crap last night was Pickler, the white trash, and Long Island's very own Kevin, who demonstrated last night just why he shouldn't be on the show.
Others were also "eh" to me, including Bucky (white trash #2) and Melissa.
My large lovely didn't do anything great last night, but I don't see her departing anytime soon either.

Koz-usually you can write my reviews but last night I thought the men were a complete mail in. Hicks had a lot of energy but his actually singing, very mediocre as was Chris, I really didn't get the judges at all.
I was surprised because over all I think the men are alot better but I thought the top three from last night were Paris, Kathrine and Mandesa. I even thought that other young girl they praised sucked. Hick and Chris were powerful on stage but showed no range, it was all performance. The girl who forgot the song actually showed more range and voice than any of the guys last night.
The LI kid has to go.

22MAR06 Update.
A pretty good night for alot of the candidates- my favorites:
1) Mandisa, the large lovely- she's got pipes man. The girl can sing her ass off, and not look like she's trying. Very solid performance and she will go very far.
2) Paris- her breakout performance- she found a genre of music which suits her and she did very well. I can't help but think that I am looking at Gary Coleman in a wig up there, just because of her height.
3) Katherine- classy. I can see this girl going very deep in the competition, and the fact that she didn't wear a bra yesterday will only boost her ratings. She's got the look and the singing was just as good. I think her genre is definitely on the Jazzy side.
Some of the rest:
Chris- he's good. Very good. I just feel as if the background singers and/or music is taking over his routine, to the point where you can't hear him singing as well as the others. It was "ok" for me.
Taylor- WTF dude? Big step back for you. Horrible song choice and it had me checking my watch for the 2 minutes you were up there. Very repetitive.
Going home/bottom 3:
Bucky- Kevin (painful to listen to) and Lisa.
My money says that Lisa gets her walking papers. I think that Bucky still commands alot of the redneck/west virginia vote. People are still voting for Kevin, supporting chicken little/underdog.

As bad as Kevin has been I thought he sucked less than Lisa and I thought the rocker Chris sucked on Tuesday. Worst version of a Johny Cash song I ever heard. He got mad props for making it his own. Since when is taking a great song and turning it to shit a good thing? My wife is big Cash Fan and made me turn it off.
Update for tonight- it's 21st century songs, which pretty much means that the contestants are free to pick from the music library of the last 6 years.
Do you think Chris will do a Rock song? Maybe, just maybe.

Last nights show sucked on so many levels.
The following individuals should be immediately sent home based upon last nights performance, coupled with prior performances:
1) Lisa
2) Ace
3) Kellie
Send all 3 home at once, shorten the season and stop wasting our time.
These few sucked but not on as high of a sucky level as the ones listed above:
1) Bucky
2) Chris- dude, I get it, you can sing rock and scream into the microphone. You are also boring the hell out of me.
3) Mandisa- I get it, you love Jesus and he saved you- you've told us this in every interview we've seen thus far this season. You trying to push a religious song, a bad one at that, on a large audience was a dumb move- and you didn't even sing it well- horrible, your worst performance thus far. I was waiting for the guy to run up the aisle as the preacher hit him on the head, telling him he was "saved."
These were the only "acceptable" ones last night:
1) Katherine- forgot what you sang but you looked hot again.

Last nights show sucked on so many levels.
The following individuals should be immediately sent home based upon last nights performance, coupled with prior performances:
1) Lisa
2) Ace
3) Kellie
Send all 3 home at once, shorten the season and stop wasting our time.
These few sucked but not on as high of a sucky level as the ones listed above:
1) Bucky
2) Chris- dude, I get it, you can sing rock and scream into the microphone. You are also boring the hell out of me.
3) Mandisa- I get it, you love Jesus and he saved you- you've told us this in every interview we've seen thus far this season. You trying to push a religious song, a bad one at that, on a large audience was a dumb move- and you didn't even sing it well- horrible, your worst performance thus far. I was waiting for the guy to run up the aisle as the preacher hit him on the head, telling him he was "saved."
These were the only "acceptable" ones last night:
1) Katherine- forgot what you sang but you looked hot again.
2) Paris- don't know the song, you reminded me of Gary Coleman in a wig, but you seemed to do a pretty good job.
3) Elliott- did well- did you forget some of the words at the beginning of the song?
The only standout for me is Taylor- who saw a marked improvement from last week's performance.
Probably the worst show this season....
It was by far the worst show of American Idol I think Ive ever seen, besides that I basically agree with most of what you said, Id switch Bucky and Kellie on the lists you have, I couldnt understand anything Bucky was saying. And I dont think Paris was that good. As for Elliot, I do believe he forgot words at the start of the song, I know that Gavin Degraw song fairly well and the way he sang it was awful, his voice was fine but the way he organized it was horrible. Taylor was the only one who really stood out and I didnt even know the song.
BTW ACE SUCKS....I cant remember the last time I saw a performance so horrible. He completely destroyed the song.

I am with you koz the whole kenny Rogers thing sucked. I think Buck did ok since it was country, Chris always seems to do well. I also think ace sucked and elliot is the best. Bottom 3 for me ace,mandisa,kelly. Kelly is going home

Agreed it sucked last night. I hate Ace but I thought he was okay last night compared to some of the others. Bottom two for me was Taylor and Mandisa followed by the hooker.
Taylor was a complete mail in. First time in 3 weeks Chris didn't suck. Elliot and Katherine both have really good voices but you have to worry about Katherine since last week she was in the bottom two. Paris is by far the best in this competition. She wasn't great last night but she was still head and shoulders above the entire field. Strong voice, great range and a pro on stage. She took on an incredible tough song and while she struggled she still pulled it off.
Buckey didn’t exactly pull off the McCloud look, nice try.

Quite the shocker, ay? You have to admit that the look on his face when Ryan brought his ego up, only to then shoot him down, was one of TV's more priceless moments. The guy is good, don't get me wrong- but he's really more of an edgy rocker, who may or may not appeal to the masses, so I think that at this point he might be better off on his own anyway.
Idol has shown that you don't need to be #1 to still do pretty well for yourself.
So the question now remains, out of the remaining 3, who do you think takes the booty? My money is on Taylor, just because his following seems to be greater than the other two. Chris was the only piece in Taylor's way, and with him gone, it might very well be clear sailing. When Taylor isn't being Taylor, and instead singing a song like "In the Ghetto" which we heard the other night, he is really, really good.

Based on tuesday nights show kat was the worst and should have whent home. IMO shes not that good i think it should be elliot and taylor in the finals. Its taylors show now .

To be honest her nice T&A is the reason why she will got to the final. She could sit up there and fart on the mic and make it to the final round. Maybe she is saving the best for last , maybe her dress will explode at the end of her preformance next show now that would be must see tv . :beer:

I thought Elliot should have went. I never really thought he was good and was the most inconsistent through the whole show.
But as to your point. I don't think that is true. People said the same thing about Carrie Underwood last year. "She will never win, AI doesn't want a country artist to win, they can never sell her." And she is doing really well and is very good.
Problem is this year, there is no clear front runner like last. People switch who they like week to week. One week the rocker, the next the hot chick, the next the goofy Elliot kid, the next the throw back Taylor, etc. But it is going to be tough to beat Taylor. Even when he sucks, people just like him. He is winning as much on personality as he is on talent.

Taylor Hicks and Chris were the best two the entire show. I was sad to see Chris leave even though I am a big fan of Hicks. A finale of Chris and Taylor would have been REALLY entertaining to watch.

Chicken little or whatever his name was looked ridiculous, but didn't last that long.
Taylor Hicks is extremely talented. He isn't just a good performer. I have heard some of his recordings...they are really good too.

This is the first season I have watched it, and I love it. I've always thought it was a dumb show, but it's great.
Someone should just give Taylor Hicks a recording contract now, and give his slot away. Nobody else stands a chance with him in there. From the women, Paris is just a great singer. She stands the best chance of winning the whole thing from the female side.

Did anyone else want to rip their eyes out by the end of that show last night? I'm not sure I have ever witnessed anything that cheesy before.. The talent level is seriously diluted by now, IMO Paris was the only one with big time talent.. Taylor should be doing karaoke somewhere down south, I'm shocked he was able to sustain his popularity throughout the whole show.. His act got old fast for me, thank god I will never have to hear Soul Patrol again..

Well, Taylor was the only good one that sang when they did Queen, which was one of the few I saw that year. I wanted that other girl to win. I think Paris and Elliot were good too, but I just don't like people singing other peoples songs, soo I never really liked the show in general.

Taylor was the better singer on Tuesday, but Chris and Kat owned him on the results show. They both sounded fantastic. Chris singing with Live was a treat I didn't see coming. Too bad the lead singer never STFU and let Chris solo.
NYJF37 - Damn you man! I have spent the last 2 weeks with my fingers crossed that Chris will join Fuel. The only thing I didn't like about Fuel was their singer, and Chris would be a perfect fit for them.

Also, I think Idol was fixed this season. First they get Chris out of the way with the wrong number crap, and then, for the first time in 5 years, the contestants didn't have to sing the same 'new' song in the finals. The song they made Kat sing was garbage, and would have been even worse had Taylor sung it. Meanwhile, they give Taylor an equally crappy song, but one that suited him perfectly. Slow starter with a big ending so he could work himself up and explode at the end in a fit of spastasticness.
I had heard rumours it was rigged, but I thought Why the hell would you rig it? It's a flipping reality show.
