Just received a ticket for 85 in a 65. Sucks. $296 fine.

Cop threw my NJ Family Member PBA card back at me, literally threw it at me.

Here's the deal though, he was on the right shoulder, not on the median and he had ZERO lights illuminated.

Do I stand a chance of beating this ticket?

If he shows up to court, no. If he doesn't, yes.

I had the same shit happened to me. $310 ticket I fought it and got it knocked down to $100. Probably your best bet.

If he shows up to court, no. If he doesn't, yes.

Eh. Half the time, if he isn't there, they will adjourn the case till a time he is. Everyone scratches everyone's back in this sector, if you fight the system, you usually use, you gotta roll with the punches.

Usually that means trading your points for a more expensive ticket, or just seeing if you can get it knocked down a level.

---

Depends on state law regarding the cop's stance, I'm not sure if he has to show off that he's there, especially not sure regarding CT. All states different.

Either way, call the number on the ticket, they will usually give you a decent idea of how much you can do remotely vs in person.

I speak from experience. Driving my GTI the way I like to can be very expensive, both on tickets, insurance, and my $400 Valentine One radar detector (saves my ass seriously at least once a week). I average 38 minutes for my 45 mile commute. That's driveway to driveway.

If you show up and the cop doesn't the only way it gets adjourned is if you let it happen. All you need to do is wait around until they finally call your case and then move for dismissal when they get through with the legal mumbo jumbo.

Okay, but if he is there, and you plead not-guilty, you're going to have your tickets with a delicious court fees topping.

That would be correct.

I just know from experience that cop not showing up equals automatic win unless you let them fool you. Usually they go through a ton of crap about your case and then ask you if you have an application. People that don't know any better usually say no at that point because they have no idea what the Judge is asking for. If you say no then it does get adjourned, if you tell them you would like to move for dismissal you walk away smelling like a rose.

Other than hoping for the cop to no show your best bet is to call them and see if you can do anything over the phone. Usually, if your record in the state is clean, you can get it knocked down to something lower just because they don't want people showing up at court.

I'm def going to go to court and try to fight it.

I just always thought cops had to have at least their cab lights on...

Cop was a real dick too.

I know Royal Tee fought a red light ticket after the Bengals game last year and lost even thought the cop didn't show 3 times. He is a Puerto Rican though and I'm a honkey.........

Ahh, the cop got him for 2nd Degree DWB: Driving While Brown.

Naturally not as serious as 1st Degree DWB: Driving While Black.

Funny, DWA and especially DWAF (Asian Female) is by far the most heinous, but seldom do cops ticket for it.

TGA is the best poster on TGG.

I have an entire profiling system when I'm driving to determine the risk factor of my fellow drivers. Points are given for race, age gender, type of vehicle, actions, etc.

I have determined via this system that the most dangerous driver possible would be an old asian female, on her phone, driving a Ford Excursion.

I believe the world would instantly end at my witnessing of that combo.

Here is a handy tip that I learned the last time I went to traffic court:

If you plead guilty and mail in the fine, the amount is whatever it says on the back of the ticket.

If you show up (whether you plead guilty or not) the amount of the fine is whatever amount the judge pulls out of his ass.

On another note, I understand giving women the right to vote but I am still wondering who thought it would be a good idea to let them drive.

I cannot for the life of me remember the last time I saw an Asian driving an Excursion, male or female.

That's why we should be safe. But women in excursions are SCARY.

If you didn't give him a hard time you will likely get it reduced. Were you actually going 85 or were you going faster and he reduced the speed?

You can get pulled over by off duty cops here and there are always unmarked cop cars as well that will pull you over, so I don't think the lights thing will hold up.

I was very cordial with the guy.

He told me he clocked me at 87 but only wrote the ticket for 85 because 86+ is a misdemeanor and requires a court date.

I've always been taught to man up and take responsibility for your actions but how in the heck can you possibly plea not guilty to a speeding ticket 20 miles per hour over the limit?

This coming from the resident retard who believes President Bush was a straight shooter.

If it is illegal for the officer to be on the shoulder without any of his lights illuminated, then the act of pulling me over and giving me the ticket should be negated.

Therefore, I should beat the ticket.

Is there a CT vehicle/traffic code provision, or something similar, that says police officers MUST have their exterior lights on when not in pursuit?

Because what's legal has nothing to do with what's right or what's moral.

On a side note, I was going to say deeper in her ass but figured I might get banned for doing so.

Then I realized that I'm not attacking a TGG member personally so I should be all good.

Thanks for the kind words though.

Actually, going after family of members is significantly worse.

All I did was show up.

When I told the "handler" that I shouldn't have the ticket cause the cop didn't have his lights on he laughed in my face.

Either way, CT is cool with lowering ticket fines apparently.

I got pulled over a few months back (54/40) and I had a meeting with the "special prosecutor" or whatever. He offered me an unfair plea bargain (Everyone else got parking in a no parking spot, he offered me a disobeying a traffic control) so I denied it, now going into court I'm wondering how to subpoena the officers notes / proof that he tested the radar / any diagrams he's going to use. Does anyone know how to go about doing that?
