In an interview with ESPN, the former NFL MVP who signed a two-year contract with the Jets in March said his new team will win a Super Bowl title.

"Absolutely, no question. Absolutely" he told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio on Monday.

The ex-Charger also revealed he's marking his time in New York, unveiling a tattoo of the Jets logo with the numerals "2010" and an open-ended dash underneath his right calf. It is similar to the Chargers logo that resides on his opposite leg, which displays the years (2001-2010) he spent as a player in San Diego.

"It's over," he said of his time playing in Southern California. "That was kinda, for me, closing that chapter of my career in San Diego. Kinda like it's dead and a new birth is being born with the Jets logo being put on my other calf."

The fifth overall pick in the 2001 draft, Tomlinson was cut by the Chargers in February after posting his worst statistical season as a professional. But Tomlinson was quick to point out he hasn't conceded the Jets starting job to second-year back Shonn Greene.

"We're obviously competing, and I think the best man is going to get the starting job."

The Jets, boasting a backfield of Green, Thomas Jones and Leon Washington, led the NFL in rushing last season -- a campaign which saw them reach the AFC Championship Game.

Love his last comment when Sal asks him if you win a super bowl with the Jets, when you get inducted in the hall of fame, would it be as a Charger or a Jet?

and his response was "interesting, thats all I will say about it"

you could see clearly on his face he had never considered that question before...

Also I am excited to see him show up and prove everyone wrong about his inevitable decline this year. I honestly believe if he can physically prove the doubters wrong, then he most definately will.

Great observation rule, I just hope he has that decision to make in the future.....

football players don't go in as a member of a team like they do in baseball and Tomlinson will always be remembered as a Charger even if he wins a SB w/ us.

I'm not trying to be a darksider here, bc I have very high hopes for this season. But I remember seeing this exact same interview with LT last year on espn first and ten.

Hopefully this season will play out a little differently for him.

Yeah hopefully since he was cut from the Chargers he is really pissed off, and is going to work harder than he did last year.

Depends. I honestly believe he still has enough talent and gas in the tank to be a Super Bowl MVP. If he plays more than one Super Bowl in green, it might be legitimately up for debate, considering how unceremoniously he left San Diego.

I expect him to be better than he had been the past 2 years(efficiency wise) but he's not hopping in the delorean and going back to pre 2008. His HOF years were in SD, there's hard feelings w/ SD right now but that stuff will disappear over time. Even if he has 2-3 good years w/ us and wins 2 SBs(I hope this scenario plays out:smile:) he'll still always be remembered as a Charger.

I really hope LT can find some of his old magic behind our Offensive Line. He won't do it consistently, but to once in a while see some of the old LT would be an awesome sight to see. I think in a reduced role, handling the ball around 15 times a game (carries & receptions included in those 15) he will be able to stay fresh and will be able to make some nice plays for us, especially in the red zone. Say what you want about him slowing down but the guy has never lost his nose for the end zone.

For a millionaire, he sure got some shitty looking tats done.

Aside from that, I love his determination. Seems like he accepts the role he will play this season, and realizes he has a legit chance to make a run. I really think he can teach McKnight a thing or two as well (Shonn too).

LT will surprise everyone this season, I guarantee it. It's going to be nice to see him excel once again in a much more balanced offense than San Diego.

LT will surprise. If Greene were to go down early (god forbid) LT could make the probowl behind this line.

Even if Greene stays healthy LT is going to see the field a ton. The reason Greene was so effective is because he hardly played at all until we needed him down the stretch. I'd give give Greene his due starts, but split carries equally between them.

It comes down to whether they want the stats or the rings. Something tells me we all know the answer to that.

LT would probably make the pro bowl on name recognition alone.

LT going to a New York football team during the twlight of his career? What of O.J. Anderson?

Granted O.J. Anderson (those 'tank' thighs) was more of a physical truck, but that said, the UM 'Cane O.J. came from the Cards to the NYG with some mileage in the pins, became the NFL "Comeback Player of the Year" under Parcell's ball-controll "ground/pound" type offense and ended up the SB MVP......so who knows about LT...with Green to carry some of the load, maybe LT's still got something of value (inc. 3rd-down receptions) in the tank.

...while watching a 'stale' "Hughes-rules" getting hammered 7-1...ugggh....

I think your nuts!!!! NO WAY he rushes for 1400 yards this year!!! He won't be the starter, he's the complimentary back

The Giants got OJ Anderson in 1986, he had 1858 carries to that point in his career and was 29. he would win a SB MVP 4 years later in the 1990 season.

LT comes to us after 2880 carries and is 31.

The 2880 carries LT has already is already 318 more than Anderson had in his CAREER.

Also, Anderson had 299 recs before he went to the Giants, LT has 530. The wear and tear on Anderson was nothing compare dto what LT has out on his body.
