ShadeTree, I hope you re-read this line. That will put a SERIOUS hamper on your fap sessions with this thing.
Apple needs to get over its hurt feelings with Adobe. Too much useful shit on the web requires flash. They need to just man up and put it on here. To me that's the biggest detraction for laying down a large chunk of cash for this. Without flash support, you're going to need to keep a laptop around for something or another...

My point is, they always "upgrade" their products by adding stuff that it should've came with from the get-go all for a new price and Mac people just eat this stuff up. Good for Jobs and Apple I suppose.

Sooo, how's this going to work? You'll buy a spreadsheet app or a Word app separate and apart from your computer unit? Or, is this just pretty much a portable browser and nothing else. One of the good things about PC software these days is that you generally get to load it on a fixed machine and a portable. I need to hear more about the expense I'd be buying into after the initial purchase.

It is more a kick around the house PC. If you are having coffee out at the pool, want to check the papers, read a book, want to show off your pics, want to watch a movie on a plane, listen to music.
So now when I am watching a game i can just grab this and look up what i want and place it down like a book. My macbook has a lot of miles on it from opening it and closing it just to look up stupid shit on a whim.
This will be my wifes CPU. it has everything she could possibly want, and she won't mess with mine.

The scale, if the touch screen is as comparable to the touchscreen on the iPhone or better as they claim. That alone would be quite innovative, I work a lot with touchscreens and they are not that great.
Mostly it will be laying the groundwork for future devices to improve. If you compare the to the 1st gen iPhone to the 3GS, you see what the potential of a device like this is. Or at least I do.

The funniest part is, and you don't hear a lot about it from the media (that adores Apple like its fanbase,) Microsoft already demo'd tablet PCs at CES a few weeks ago.
This new toy will be gobbled up by the same people who bought iPhones early on, and the rest of us will buy Windows tablets that are actually useful.
FYI, the model with 64GB of solid state memory and 3G/WiFi support built in is $829. Over $800 for an oversized iPhone? Mac lovers crack me up.

This device is retarded. I have an iPhone, which is great. I have a Dell Laptop and my sister a MacBookPro, both great. This iFag, I mean iPad is a hybrid itouch/laptop and seems to do none of both worlds right. Hmmm, lemme hold this 10'' pad up to my face and make a phone call! Wait, no. I don't know. I lug my laptop all around the house, upstairs, downstairs, in front of the television, at the breakfast counter. Something lighter and user-friendly might be a better option. I'd have to see it in action. I bought my mom a netbook for Christmas and it was a decent toy.
I was thinking how the tablet screen might be new and more uncomfortable - looking down instead of across at the screen.

I don't get it either. Whats all the hoopla about the Apple Tablet. They are catching on to the Windows market about 5 years too late.
I've had a tablet PC since 2004. Acer, Toshiba, and HP all make 'em. My favs are the convertible with the keyboard that swivels away. The HP has the tablet with the dock that had a keyboard but its PITA. My old Tosh was kick ass when it first came out and the Acer convertible, unfortunately very old now, is still working perfectly.
Even OneNote 2003 is still running despite MS' claims to upgrade!

As a publisher, this is fantastic.
Imagine purchasing a book, say a biography of your favorite band, that has high-definition video embedded in the book. Plus interactive quizzes and up-to-date chapters that feed in from an online source, meaning the book will never be out-of-date.
Oh, and 3G plans beginning at $15 a month aren't bad either... plus the fact there will be models for both ATT and Verizon. Sweet.

If those features come to pass some day then it might be useful looking at this kind of device, until then the difference between the LCD and eInk display will save alot of eyeballs.
As for the 3G, the other readers have 3G available for $0 per month.

Erm....... how are you going to watch porn and stupid videos with no Flash support?
If you run a netbook with Ubuntu you can have all of the functionality of the iPad with loads of additional applications, a proper keyboard, no boot time, storage, a webcam, and all for about half the cost. The only issue for you is that you'll have to actually open it, which if you'll forgive me is one of the most bizarre justifications for a technology purchase I've ever heard.

You know...I love my IPOD almost as much as my right hand.
After a decade of conditioning, I cannot even really workout alone without it.
However. I am well versed in Electronics repair so the main IPOD issue (unless you like doling out $$$$) isn't really a problem.
But how does anyone else not get past that whole, 'Sealed Battery' thing
I've replaced my IPOD battery 3 or 4 times over the years, with no problem. But I'd be damned if I'm shelling out 800 bills for something without having the comfort level of A: the ability to Do it Myself, or B:a repair that's less than 50 bucks and available at best buy.

I have no problem with using your machine to backup/synch the device, once you notice the battery life dwindling...but mailing it out, and charging 106$????
An Ipod battery costs me less than 30 bucks and takes me 10 minutes to change.
