View Full Version : Bad Break: Herm Gets His Bye In Week 3

Section 227, Row 5

With the new schedule, the Kansas City Chiefs have their Bye in Week 3. This means they play only 2 games before the Bye and 14 games after the Bye. That's pretty grueling. As inevitable injuries occur during the season there'll be no down time for players to get healthy.

I can just hear Herm's whining on this. He's probably already amassing excuses. Along about Week 11, expect him to mention the schedule and their early Bye as one of the reasons they're 4-7. Hahahahaha... Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

When he coached here we had a lot of early bye weeks as well except for last year.

i would say it's nice to have it early because you can make changes if you struggle early

but herm doesn't really make changes, he just hopes for the best

Hahahahaa... how true! If you ask me, Herm's entire tenure here was one, huge Bye!

It might actually be beneficial for the Chiefs to get this bye early. After the grueling TC it will be a nice break that should have them fresh again.

Those Kansas City summers get pretty hot out there in those corn fields. I remember Herm walking around camp last summer with a long-sleeve sweatshirt on. He had that same long-sleeve shirt on every single day, even when the thermometer on my Tahoe read 102 degrees one afternoon. Wonder if he'll do that again this year.

Of course, you can't move around much in 106 degree-heat in long sleeves, but maybe that was the point. Herm could be seen barely moving around. And as might be expected, everyone took the lead and followed suit, including the players and coaches. Heimerdinger was the worst. He'd fold his arms over his fat belly and support his chin with one hand, as if deep in thought. But then, every several minutes, he'd give himself away by checking his watch to see how far away from lunch they were. This way he and DeWayne Roberston could race one another to the chow line and fight over helpings of fried chicken and mashed potatoes.

The whole thing was a farce. They'd start late and quit early. The only coach that was worth a shit was Mike Westfoff, who was out there early and stayed late and really worked the special teams. I blame that soft camp on a lot of things last year, including the complete debacle at Arrowhead on opening day and the subsequent injuries. "Unprepared" can't even come close to describing out team.

Maybe the league set this up on purpose. They heard Herm looked at the roster and said "Oh crap, I have work to do here!" and gave him a schedule built for excuses.

He'll say, "It's like when ya start a long distance race and you take a break too early, then you realise that you've still got a long way to go. Only in this race, we didn't get to choose when the break was. But we ain't gonna stop now, we just gonna keep on runnin' the race, cuz there ain't no taxi cabs you can jump in to get ahead in this race, you gotta take every step yourself, and that's what we're gonna do."

GREAT!!!

A little short for Herm but, still great... Herm would have taken 35 minutes to say that.

I guess I just have a dream that one day people will put posts in their proper forums, and this place will be readable once again.

KC has an absolutely grueling schedule. They will have a great deal of difficulty making the playoffs next year. 8-8 might be a great accomplishment. Are there two HoF OL coming back next year? Roaf and Shields? Without those two KC will be quite a different team.

I guess I just have a dream that one day people will put posts in their proper forums, and this place will be readable once again.

I have the same dream to. Inappropiate posts are out of hand. There are a millon repetitive posts on the main forums along with tons of posts that belong in a different forum. It all ends up creating tons of spam and degrading the quality of the boards. If people cannot figure out where to post or have the courtsey to respect their fellow posters by checking to see if their post has already been posted they should be banned. By banning them all we would lose is spam and boards would be much more readable.

Yeah, the NFL or BS forum would have been a bit more appropriate, but he was a Jets coach. Do you ever refer to Parcells? Or Bellichek? Or Kotite? Or any former player in any of your posts? Not trying to start a flame war or anything, but it is a lighthearted poke at a guy who ran our beloved club into the crapper last year, and made excuses for his lack of coaching ability the whole way.

Christ, this is serious stuff here. I had no idea I impacted the board to such an extent this morning! All seriousness aside, Rambo, come on, lighten up on me a little today! I mean, it's not like we've got major Jets news breaking every hour or something. I just figured we'd get a little Herm talk going again for old times sake. Besides, I needed a good laugh, and 3rd brought it out. Sorry if it wasn't to your liking. Maybe you should create some new threads with more pressing issues than reading about Herm's schedule.

Your impact by not following the board rules is little or neglible. But when there are a 100 people placing inappropiate posts or repetitive posts per day it bogs down the boards and makes them unreadable. Plus it creates a great deal of unnecessary work for the mods to clean up the mess. Think of it as littering. One candy rapper on the side of the road does not look bad but when everyone does it the road looks like a mess. These boards are a mess for the same reason. While I personally am not in favor of banning you for violating the board rules I am in favor of banning all people who start inappropiate new threads in the NYJ to send a message to everyone. Banning is really the only viable way to clean up the boards and make them readable again.

to be honest, seeing herm in the title of this thread was the only reason i clicked on the jets forum in the first place. topics like this that are tangentially related to the jets have a place in the main forum IMO.

i like the NFL forum, but it's obvious that it doesn't get anywhere near the traffic that the Jets forum gets. especially in the offseason there are alot more interesting football stories to discuss the endless speculation about the draft or ridiculous trade proposals that relate strictly to the jets.

imo the members will determine what an 'inappropriate' or stupid post is. if you don't like it, ignore it and if enough others feel the same it will sink to the bottom of the forum.

Buttle, I do see your point and have always been a respectful poster here and on other boards. In case you haven't noticed, I don't start inappropriate threads. If you're after someone with whom you wish to make an example, I'm the wrong guy. It's a slow week and the news is almost non-existent and I didn't see any harm in linking our former coach's current Bye-schedule woes with a little light-hearted jab at his uncanny ability to make excuses ad nauseum. I happen to like boards that allow a little leeway in the rules while also allowing some injection of humor.

But if one is to strictly interpret the rules, you are right and I am wrong, and for that reason you can have the last say. Just make sure every one of your future posts exhibit the kind of strict adherance to your anti-litter policy you obviously require of everyone else.

I agree with you. You are a good poster and your response was very thoughtful. I also agree with you that my post was a little extreme. Third and 15 is a right that your post might be technically breaking the rules but if so it was not by much. My apologies about the overreaction. After some thought I am not offended by your post nor should I have been. Your intentions were in the right place. Rather what offends and contiunues to opffend me is people who post on the main boards without those good intentions who don't take the time to respect their fellow posters by checking to see if their post has already been placed. But I do encourage you to and others to apply the same standards I articulated earlier if not higher to my posts. My apologies again and I hope I did not offend you.
