I hate this stupid thing. It is such a joke. It is all a ploy by the major conferences and the NCAA to screw the mid majors. Lets see Bucknell vs. NIU at NIU.... hmmm lets see if Bucknell loses and happen to lose the Patriot League Tourney will they get a bid? Thye had their chance on Bracketbuster Saturday right.... I guess their resume and what they did to Kansas last year isn't good enough. Oh and they are better this year than last year.
George Mason at Witchita St.... GMU RPI in the 20's yet should they lose this game and to UNCW or Hofstra in the CAA Tourney will the CAA get 2 possibly 3 teams? Not liklely
Northwestern St at Utah St. NW St wins at Oklahoma State and Oregon St. took Iowa St to dbl OT and lost at Hawaii the following night. 1 conference loss yet should they not win their conference tourney say goodbye to the NCAA's. Should Utah St lose even though they play in a good conference they'll need to win the conference tourney.
This should be a way for these small teams to play their way in not out. If tey really wanted to call it bracketbuster send some of these crappy teams from major conferences to the mid majors. Let the major conferences prove they deserve 7 bids over these little conferences with 2 or 3 really good teams. Let Maryland , Indiana, Syracuse and Arizona prove they are better than NIU, Missourri St and Utah St. I'd love to see Syracuse travel to Long Island to play Hofstra... but no that would never happen it might cost the big conferences that 7th team and that means $$$.

I'm a little bummed out that all Hofstra got is Sienna. We haven't played any legitamite non-conference opponent this season.

Last year has nothing o do w/ this year but either way Bucknell will get an at-large even if they lose their conf tourney.

Not to look past William and Mary, but I'm looking forward to Hofstra vs. George Mason on Thursday night at Hempstead. He have an RPI in the mid-40s right now. A Win vs. them would go a long way toward securing a possible at-large bid with a decent conference tourney showing.

You never know. The CAA has had an excellent year so far. They have 3 programs with RPIs in the top 50 in GM, UNCW, and Hofstra. Traditionally, teams in the 40 rpi range have a 50-50 shot at getting in. I've looked back at the last 5 years, and teams with RPIs in the 30s get in every single time.
It's hard getting big schools to come to our gyms. Hofstra went up to Syracuse last year while we were 9-0 and lost a close one to them. We didn't have any non-conference opponents of that calibar on our schedule this year, but we do have 19 wins.

There aren't any eye catching wins for the tourney resumes or good losses. I would be shocked if Hofstra gets an at-large.

Not for anything Moss but RPI is overrated. Arizona has an RPI in the 20's becuase of their strength of schedule yet they are 0-6 against the top 50 in RPI. I always thought you get points for a W not an L regardless of who you play. There are so many garbage teams in big conferences that are likely to get bids this year. Going through the major confrences there are a handfull of locks...
There are 21 One bid leagues
that leaves 44 bids left but there are 4 confernces where if the best team where to lose the title 2 teams will get in from that conference. They are the Patriot, MAAC, A-10 and WCC.
Here are my locks
ACC
Duke
UNC
NC State
Boston College
(bids 4)
Big East
UCONN
W. Virginia
Nova
Pitt
G-town
Marquette
(bids 6)
Big 10
Ill.
Iowa
Ohio St
Mich st
Michigan
Wisconsin
(bids 6)
Big 12
Texas
Oklahoma
Kansas
Colorado
(bids 4)
Colonial
UNCW
George Mason
this is a tricky league, Mason is a lock. If they win the Tourney UNCW is in although if Hofstra or somebody else were to win UNCW is out
(bids 2)
C USA
Memphis
UTEP or UAB
(bids 2)
Missouri Valley
N. Iowa
Witchita St
Missouri St
Creighton or SIU
another tricky conference I think they get 4 and Southern Ill is the odd team out.
(bids 4)
Pac 10
Washington
Cal
UCLA
Arizona or Stanford (although neither one is worthy)
(bids 4)
SEC
LSU
Tenn
Florida
Bama
Arkansas
Kentucky
(bids 6)
WAC
Nevada
Utah St.
(bids 2)
I count 40 locks plus the 21 one bid leagues. Assuming all teams in one bid leagues win conference that should there are 4 bids left among
SIU. Indiana , La Tech, the 2nd place in the Mountain West, the 3rd Colonial team, Seton Hall, Cuse, Cinci, FSU, Maryland, Texas A&M,
My last 4 in.....
Syracuse
Maryland
Air Force
Seton Hall

Mister Moss, sienna is trash and showed it on saturday when the coach sent his wife courtside to bitch at the refs. Not only was he tossed, so was she. Total lack of class for mthe upstaters.
I feel bad for you having to go there next year. Best of luck with that and dealing with the countrybumpkin hayseeds.

Heh. I wasn't aware of that. I didn't attend the game. I went to a game vs. Towson in January. I'm planning on going Thursday night vs. George Mason.
Yeah, Sienna does stink i guess. I was hoping for a matchup vs. a higher profile school, maybe get on ESPN, but oh well.

Unless UNCW collapses, or Hofstra wins the CAA tournament, I doubt Hofstra gets in the tournament.

It's too bad for Hofstra that the year they have an incredible run they are in a league that usually only gets one bid ths year 2 should be a given but 3 is likely impossible. Hofstra's resume....
19-5 overall 11-4 in a very good Colonial Conference as ODU and VCU aren't too shaby either.
Good wins: at St. Johns, at LaSalle, NC Wilimington, at ODU
Bad losses: At Notre Dame by 19, at VCU by 23, at Towson, at Northeastern by 16
Winning out gives them 22 victories and a W over George Mason. Splitting with UNCW gives the commitee something to think about as far as the 2nd team out of that conference. If some bubble teams from major conferences ie; Cuse, Seton Hall and Maryland were to really falter down the stretch is it inconcievable that if Hofstra were to win out and put in a nice conference tourney run they could get an at-large bid? I don't think it's that out of the question. A potential tourney matchup with UNCW looms. It's would be tough for the commitee to take UNCW over Hofstra with the Pride owning 2 W's over the Seahawks.

The CAA is a good conference that I usually pick in the first round of the tournament. I don't think that the CAA is good enough to have 3 at large bids though. Hofstra needs to beat G-Mason to have a chance. Here's UNCW's profile though. If anyone remembers JetsFan80, he goes to UNCW, and I talk to him a fair amount, so I know a decent amount about this conference.
UNC-Wilmington Seahawks: 20-7 (13-3)
Good wins: at Northwestern by 8, vs George Mason by 6, Hofstra by 9, VCU by 20
Bad losses: at Colorado by 19, vs Charleston by 4, at East Carolina by 13
Other losses: at Wisconsin by 3 (Taylor hit a 3 with no time left to win it), at ODU by 5, at Hofstra by 5, at G-Mason by 7.
Remaining games: at VCU, vs Georgia State. VCU would be a quality win on the road if they can get it.
They blew a halftime lead at Old Dominion, and they were very close to taking Wisconsin to overtime in Wisconsin. That would have really made their resume a tournament lock.
Right now, Lunardi has UNC-Wilmington as an 11 seed, and Hofstra not close. He has 4 teams listed as his "last four in" and UNC-W isn't on there, so I assume they're pretty much of a lock barring a collapse, at least in his eyes. Hofstra isn't in the top 8 schools that aren't in the tournament at this point. They're going to need some collapses from some bubble teams and for pretty much every favorite for these mid-major conferences to win. Or they'll need to win the CAA.

Sift thru the board if you wish, but sienna was whining about playing hofstra, wanting a 'bigger' game, yet they couldn't even win the game, coach gets ejected for arguing fouls and sending his wife to do his dirty work.
The conference (MAAC) he coaches in should penalize him for his actions. It was immature and send a wrong message to the kids. I'm not saying suspend him for the conference tourny, but maybe a game before then.

Hofstra already played a great game against ODU(one of the best finishes I've ever seen) and talentwise, they have the best program in the conference. If they don't make it in via a conference championship, I don't know that they deserve to be there.

I kept telling you guys Hofstra was a good team. I don't care if it was George Mason but the Pride just beat a top 25 team. It's gonna be a great fight between UNCW and Hofstra for that 2nd CAA bid.

Great win BUT I still don't think thbey have enough for an at-large. I hpe they win the conf Tourney so they don't have to sweat it out on Selection Sunday.

Yeah. Their RPI is now #38. Take it for what it's worth. I know top 40 RPI teams have a high percentage as far as at-large bids are concerns. I need to look into historical conference battles to see if they can get 3 teams in.

They likely won't get 3 teams, what it will come down to is a potential semifinal matchup in the CAA Tourney. I would not be surprised if a team like ODU or VCU won the tourny. It is played in Richmond on the home court of the Rams. This has been a good year for the mid-majors but unfortunatley they continue to beat each other thus helping the crappy teams in big conferences.
