View Full Version : Why did the Yankees trade Jarrett Wright for Chris Britton?

What a bad trade by the Yankees.

I look at Wright and I see a decent #3 or #4 Pitcher for the Orioles.

Chris Britton is a joke and should never wear pinstripes.

If the Yankees didn't want Wright they should of cut him.

What do you guys think?

I am not a Yankees fan as you all know. But I actually thought Britton was pretty good on the O's last year.

Jarett Wright was a true Yankee.

Jaret Wright is a bad pitcher.

We should've taken anything, no matter how bad it was, for Wright... it just so happens we got a young guy who has a likely future as a good middle reliever.

How can you call Britton a joke who should never wear pinstripes, and then give Wright praise? Britton has been good his entire professional career, has a good arm, and is only 24. Wright has been bad for years. At his best these days, he is a decent #5 starter for a team the caliber of the Yankees.

How is Chris Britton a joke? He's 24 years old and a young player with ability. Just by looking at his numbers, it's hard to be to impressed by his first MLB year last year.

How is Jaret Wright so awesome if he couldn't even hold his own in the Yankees rotation year after year. We are bless to not have him.

Wright sucks. I can't stand him. I'm glad he's gone even if it was for a gamble.

I willing to assume that this thread was a botched joke and never speak of it again.

Jared Wright was horrible with the Yankees.....could never get past the 5th inning. They should of never signed him to begin with. He was always hurt...nagging injuries plague him his whole career.

Good Riddence!

I never said Wright was good at all, I just think that Britton isn't good.

True, he is young, but I don't think he is good enough to be a Yankee.

Hopefully he will prove me wrong.

I thought of this because I am watching the O's-Twins. (Wright's first start as an O)

How do you figure?

There were two options in the offseason: Not pick up Wright's option (i think that's what it was), or trade him. I don't understand what Britten has done to not make him a commodity for this franchise.

So Britton, a 24 year old who posted a 3.35 ERA in 53 IP in the AL East last year wasn't a good return for a mediocre 5th starter?

All right then.

I remember Britton blowing games for the Orioles the last two seasons.

And thinking when he was in the game that the Yankees were going to go on a scoring spree.

I made this thread thinking of how he pitched for a bad team last year.

I am glad everyone is optimistic about Britton.

Jaret Wright is terrible.

There is no other way of saying it.

Your posting style.

Is a little absurd.

I'm confused. Britton had a nice rookie year last year, gave up 47 hits in 78.2 innings in Single A baseball 2 years ago (1.60 ERA), and has progressively moved up the ranks, and we're questioning the move over the precious Jaret Wright???

Let's be honest. the only reason this trade was made was because Mazzone wanted to work on Wright again.

That pretty much sums it up right there.

and wright is done for the night after 2.1 tonight still responsible for 2 on base

MisterMoss

Clearly Wright would be a solid 3rd/4th starter on the Yankees after giving up 6 runs on 4 hits and 5 walks in 2.1 innings.

MM I would think that you would not stoop that low.

Putting words in my mouth.

This thread has NOTHING to do with Wright's talent.

He did suck tonight though no doubt. ha ha.

Pretty sure those words came out of your mouth.

At least they left enough room for your foot.

It would have costs the Yankees $3 mill to buy out his contract. Instead, they traded Wright and $3 mill to the Orioles for Britton.. Basically, they got Britton for free

For the Orioles.

The Orioles suck man.

For the Yankees, no way.

So if he's unable to be a 3rd or 4th starter on the Yanks, then what is this discussion about, and what does it have to do with Britton?

If the Yankees didn't want Wright they should of cut him.

Britton isn't the best choice, but NYJ2K07, look at it this way.

1)Would you rather cut Jaret Wright, and get NOTHING for him?

or

2)Would you rather trade him away, get SOMEONE[Anyone] and see how that someone does?

I'm going with #2. Maybe you'll change your mind.

That's one of the ways I look at it to, but 2k07 said that he doesn't think he is good enough to be a Yankee.

I guess I have high standards for the pinstripes. ha ha.

Ponson? Get out of here!

The Future's point which I believe was made by someone else in another way is good.

I really wasn't aware of Britton's age or upside.

I just made this thread after seeing Wright in an O's uniform and thinking how bad Britton looked to me last season.

Unfortunately everyone had to bite my head off.

You guys shouldn't do that on a messageboard.

It could make people not express their opinions due to fears of mockery.

Bottom line: I hope Britton works out as a Yankee. :)

By the way, you guys answered my question in the title, and I thank you for that. :)

Or, it could make people research their opinions to make sure they make sense before posting.

That'd be ideal.

LTS you have criticized me the most in this thread ha ha. You are right though.

I made the thread without doing any research at all or knowing too much about Britton or the trade.
