View Full Version : INFO ON TANK TYLER.....IMO, HE's Off Mangini's Board.
Guys forget about Demarcus "Tank" Tyler..........article says it all, he is very lazy at times and takes plays off. Not a Mangini player. Spitting in player's face, getting arrested for drunken behavior, losing his temper...yada..yada..yada

Hey, it may be over used, but it's true. He likes overachieving, hard working, teamplayers.

Amen.
It's even more annoying than the old "Patriot way" thing that used to be all over Jets message boards.
Why is it assumed that these 21-23 year olds are career-long F-ups that the Jets could not POSSIBLY touch with our saintly fingers anyway?
I realize theres guys you just know are BAD. But how many people here were the person they are now at 21?
This guy is not a Mangini player.

Is there a more palatable way to say the Jets are only interested in players that are team players, have incredible work ethics, no character issues and are smart? That's too much to type out. Call 'em Mangini types. Why the uproar?

It's more the dismissal of anyone with so much as a parking ticket as a future Jet because of some character flaw that will never be fixed.
Guy is what...22 years old?
I see it as:
1. A real loss of talent opportunity in the long run.
2. A shot at Mangini's ability to handle a "bad egg."
3. Ridiculously judgemental
I realize the need Mangini had to fish for players with good character. It's a beautiful strategy as a rookie HC. Where I differ from many Jets fans is that I think Mangini has the full respect of the locker room, and can now take a "risk" on this vile 22 year old and others like him.

This is from draftdaddy.com; I don't know if your source is more reliable, but this description doesn't sound like he's a "fat slob."
NC State defensive tackle Demarcus "Tank" Tyler is an interesting prospect. Unlike Crowder, he is not especially flexible. However he is very wide and surprisingly quick for a player of such bulk. Tyler flashed on 11-on-11 and was most impressive stringing out the run down the line of scrimmage. This is a player whose stock will be largely affected by workout numbers, as there is a chance he has rarer size/speed ratio than most.

I actually write for draftdaddy
But I didn't write that, my friend did, and he was at mobile too
As for the source who called him a fat slob, he's a good source, but he could be wrong, that's just his opinion

We can agree to disagree! When an NFL franchise invests Millions of dollars on a player, why take a risk on someone who has a consistent track record of social ills. Tyler has shown that he has a hot temper and bad judgement. It isn't just one incident....it's 4 or 5, plus he has shown scouts that he's lazy and takes plays off.
IMO, it isn't Mangini's job to turn a bad apple into a good one, even if it is possible. Character always wins in the end, a bunch of thugs on a team will tear a team apart.
Perfect Example: Chris Henry, I saw this kid from a mile away. He's a problem and always has been a problem...in high school, college and now the pros.

I bet you guys didn't consider Laveranues Coles a "Mangini Type" player when he was first drafted..........

How bout "Manginile" (pronounced like crocodile), instead of the term for which there is so much disdain.
...and the reason we got coles in the 2nd round is because he wasn't manginile, everybody knew he was 1st round talent.
there ya go, even used it in a sentence

Your logic is off the charts. The Mangini era is now, not 7 years ago. Coles was drafted in 2000....by Parcells and Al Groh in the 3 rd round. Coles got kicked off the team and Peter Warrick got a slap on the wrist. He made one stupid mistake. Tyler has shown a long and repeated pattern of poor judgement, anger issues and being lazy.....another Chris Henry in the making.

So you're saying that theres no chance in hell a 22 year old can change?
And when did it become factual that a "bunch of thugs" would ruin anything they touched? Lemme guess...THE BENGALS!!!!!111
The Bengals are an extreme example, and even then a poor one. Not only are they a good team, they look like a good team in the long run. That may go off track if a few of the young guys messing up now don't grow up, but thats a huge assumption that is treated like its already a fact.
I'm not saying go out and get a group of convicts. I'm saying that Mangini has control of the locker room and I think he's able to take risks on certain young guys.

Mangini is the coach of the Jets..... to coach the team.............not run a concentration camp and rehabilitate players, especially ones you are drafting that you can "Hand Pick".....let them be someone else's issue.
Your defending someone like Tank Tyler, who TIME AFTER TIME has screwed up. I still maintain, poor character players effect the team in a negative way. You only quoted part of my post, read it over again.
The Bengals really did well this year 8-8 (sarcasm), even Carson Palmer is fed up with the thugs on their team. The Bengals Coaches, Gms and Scouts have no clue on investigating a person's character.
I Manage a large business.....I run background checks, and drug screening on all prospective employess..........it's called protecting your Assets. An employee can be an outstanding worker, but if they are on drugs, they can hurt themselves, hurt someone else, or even steal from the company.
Most people's character doesn't change............that's a fact.

I'm not exactly talking about it that way, I mean, say Coles was going into the draft this year coming off of that......... you would be making the same exact topic about him not being a "Mangini player"

I think Tank Tyler is a better 4-3 nose anyway. He can passrush somewhat, and usually occupies one gap, rather then two. His play involves him trying to shoot the gap, but he usually doesn't, so he clogs up the A gap, by pushing the center and guard back. He doesn't have the leverage to hold the guard/center up at the point of attack.

laverneus coles got an illegal discount from a friend who worked at a store. something that happens all the time. nobody ever accused him of being hot headed or lazy.
something almost every scout says about Tyler.
pretty big difference.
this guys being labeled a NT cuz of his weight. who says he could step in and give us what we need? itd be the same learning curve D-Rob had to work with and wed be complaining all over.
no thanks im not interested.

Florida State athletic director Dave Hart said Coles was kicked off the team because he already was on probation because of past legal and academic problems. Coles, like Warrick, is a senior wide reciever.
Hmm... that happens to everybody right? Getting arrested for grand theft on top of past legal and academic problems?
