If Thunderbird Jet wins, he would win the award a year after his nemesis won the award. TBJ would win in large part due to his punting thread battles with JetsIn2004.
Three of the people in the poll didn't post enough in 2006 to warrant winning the award, in my opinion.
I like being nominated, but am not sure I would like winning the award. I would be a target for those who don't like me. I don't look forward to a year of being a target and having people baiting me into heated arguments.
statjeff22 might be the best choice because he has the gift of internet gab and very rarely does he post something that lacks substance, even if he is not always correct. I also don't think he would brag if he won this award, as has been the case with past winners of this award.

Actually, I had already requested that my name not appear in the voting. The sniping had already started in the nomination thread. I don't come here and post my training camp reports or the BG threads to win awards or popularity contests. I come hear to have some fun, talk about our Jets with other fans, discuss opinions and generally to relax. I'm not here to be a target or to exchange insults, or to have to defend myself against groundless attacks.
So, again, I ask my name be removed from the voting. I just want to be another TGG'er. Thanks.

Tbird. I think we all realize that you do it out of fun and conversation, and I think most people post here for the same reason. If it's an honor that your peers want to bestow upon you, I would encourage you to take it as a compliment and accept it.

I think this is an example of people caring too much about an award on a message board. I know you don't like being ignored but does it really matter. If you feel you are a good poster then be happy with that. Do you really need the recognition of being on the list?

Nice to hear from you Benny, you've been MIA.
As for the punting reports I think that they were priceless, especially early days, and helped give us Aussies a greater understanding of the finer points of BG's job.
I did pine for them when TBJ took a break however i think that we have moved on now and TBJ has done more than expected of him. To be honest I found the training camp reports to be the really valuable threads.
I guess you and I started as BG fans initially but now I am more into the whole team (TBJ picked Rhodes as a beast in TC and I have followed him all saeson). I would be just happy with a few lines that tells me how benny is going.
ThunderbirdJet
01-22-2007, 08:07 PM
Guys... I'm sorry about the lack of BG reports.... I know you looked forward to them. I had some computer problems, then some health issues.... sometimes shit happens. I plan on picking it back up next year, despite the fact that there is some backlash against them. People seem to remember only those reports, but as I've said, I thought my best contributoons to this site were my TC reports.
That in part is why I don't want to be in this... voting. I just want to post stuff that I have fun with. That's why I'm here... well that, and I've met some great people at training camp through this site...227, Mister Moss, Kurt the Jets fan and some others... all great guys.
This particular "award" comes with baggage I'd rather not have to deal with. Let the ego maniacs roll around in the mud for it. When my writing of the BG reports makes me "less" knowledgable.... well, so be it. The BG reports seemed to have over shadowed anything else I've done here, but that doesn't mean I'm about to stop writing them.
I think message boards are a sort of community, now with a lot of Aussies in this one. I'm more about the nightowl Tom and DBJ's My son threads. And of course, Jets football. The pettiness and bickering over this voting is pretty silly, and doesn't mean much to me. I thank twinJets for going to all the trouble, but I'd just as soon not be involved, other than voting for others.
Win this award, and you'de better check that all yout I's are dotted and T's crossed, or become a target. I get enough of that already. I know who I am and what I bring. I'm good with that, and don't need validation, validation that invites sniping from small minded egotists.
I'll ask again.... please remove my name. The fact that Junc was forgotten makes it reasonable to start this voting from square one.... and without me. I would consider it a favor.

Are you f'n kidding me?
No, why would I? He won last yr, and was the one that knew all the playoff scenarios this yr exactly and explain every scenario thoroughly. He's also the guy that knows everything regarding the cap.

I believe there are too many knowledgeable posters on this site to really pinpoint one person.
One of the problems is, alot of people have different kinds of knowledge. Some are great writers(227), others great jets historians(Junc, Cakes) and others are great w/ more football specific stuff (I.E. Jetsin2004 w/ the cap and TBJ w/ the kicking/punting facet).
I had come up w/ an idea that I threw around acouple years back w/ very little response, but mentioned it again during TC w/ the posters I met in TBJ, 227 and 1028, and they all seemed to like the idea.
I have no problem w/ keeping the current "Most knowledgeable poster" formula.
But why not highlight some of the interesting knowledges on this board by having some sort of "Honorary TGG front office", or something to that degree?
Granted it isn't the same head to head competition that this current formula suggests...but rather a fun way to showcase the many different perspectives some of our posters present.
Here's a raw example(no offense to anyone not mentioned/mentioned, this is just totally off the top of my head)
TGG Cap specialist- Jetsin2004
TGG Jets historian- NyJunc
TGG Special teams/kicking coordinator- TBJ
TGG Draft specialist- Green hurricane
Etc...

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, and as Thunderbird Jet mentioned, the winner of this award is going to be a target. We saw that JetsIn2004 was a target this past year. Then again, that particular poster brought much of it on himself by bragging about how smart he was.
That's partly why I thought statjeff22 could handle this award. I don't think he'd brag. Therefore, people would probably not try to bother him too much. Still, I think there would be posters who would look to try to refute things he would say in the future.
Months ago, I was apparently thinking along the same lines as KurtTheJetsFan. There are many different knowledgeable posters who bring various things to the table. One is good with the draft, one is good with history, one is good with football Xs and Os, etc.
Instead of just voting one person as "Most Knowledgeable" why not hand out multiple awards to deserving knowledgeable posters? We could do that or the front office thing that Kurt mentioned.
Here is a quick list of some posters' chief value to the board:
salary cap- JetsIn2004
draft- Jabba, Green Hurricane (there are probably some others I'm overlooking)
Jets history- mrjet80, winstonbiggs, nyjunc, Italian Seafood, Joe Willie White Shoes (there are probably several others we could vote on in this category)
general NFL history- Cakes (this is my main value to the board and most likely why I got nominated here)
training camp guru- ThunderbirdJet, Mister Moss
linemen guru- KurtTheJetsFan
etc.
We could probably come up with about a dozen different categories to form some sort of "TGG front office" which would honor multiple people.
Instead, right now we have this one award and it has led to some trouble.

Wow, who knew that this was such a dangerous award? As I said to you in a PM, Cakes, I really don't view myself as all that knowledgeable - there are plenty of people around here who know a whole lot more about football than I do. I try to make my posts reasonable and thoughtful (except occasionally in the BS Forum, of course), and I take it as a compliment if that is what is being recognized by anyone who has voted for me. One thing I do know a lot about is how to interpret data, and maybe some of the posts related to that have something to do with it as well.
Whatever might ultimately happen here, I will go on record in saying that I am not always right, will not claim any superiority over other posters in any way, and will not complain if I don't win!

Most knowledgeable poster or no most knowledgeable poster, he's an ass. Winning this award didn't make him a target, other then it stoking his ego to the point that he became even more unbearable then he already was.

It's not stalking - You just happen to post A LOT and be in most of the posts I read and you were dead wrong and went down with the Herm Edwards ship, kicking, screaming and fighting it to the end. I don't spend a lot of time here -Maybe I get a chance a few days a week to pop in on a few threads, I don't claim to be a contributor.
You happen to be the Only Jets poster I've ever read that I completely disagree with and that I feel has no grasp for what a good Coach and front office should bring to the table and what it takes to build a Championship... AND you'll never give in.
Again, I admire the persistance and time you spend trying to convince people but, damn sometimes just step back and look at the big picture and admit that you can be WRONG.
I know a good poster when I read it and Thunderbird and Jabba Always bring the Info.... I don't see guys like that debating ad nauseum just to "prove a point"... They bring the Info and let it stand on it's own....No spinning and twisting to fit some agenda.
You are way too Thick headed and unwilling to understand other points of view to be considered a good poster.

No offense to you guys...but this is kinda embarassing to all of you. I know some of you are trying to be the bigger man about it, and i respect that. And perhaps i dont know the gravity of these awards because...im just a rookie. I haven't been part of these awards yet, but from what i understand this is just a fun thing to do at the end of a season, and not meant to hurt anyones feelings or give people something to brag about. Next year, I think it should be a silent voting so noones votes are influenced by other people and voters will choose who they really feel is the most knowledgable or whatever the award is. Just accept the voting options...the mods shouldn't have to worry about people complaining they do enough already and vote. That's all. This is a Jets forum where everyone should be looking to give everything they know and absorb what everyone else has to offer. The awards should not be what is important to you.

Just got a PM from TwinJet as to whether or not I wanted out. Two days ago, not only did I want out, I was contemplating whether or not posting here had become more aggravation than it was fun anymore.
I just deleted a long diatribe about all of this. In short, I've elected to stay in the voting..... and decided I'll continue to post about whatever I please, whether or not some small number of detractors like it or not. Frankly, I didn't want negative posters to become "empowered". That did appear to be on the agenda.
I like Kurt's suggestions for next year. We don't need a presidential election.... just some awards for people who make good contributions to the site. Recognition for good posters is great. I think that's the intent here, but it's gotten quite muddled in the interim. I think we can spread out the appreciation of good posters out in the future without declaring a "winner".

Great post... don't let a few negative posters drive you away from the site... some people just take this stuff a little too seriously.. good to see that your staying

LMFAO! I swear.... if I had planned this, it would never have worked. Hey, if I actually did plan this all out, I should get the TGG politician award! It's like stepping in shit..... you don't see it coming.... until you hear the skwish. Then, you start cleaning off your sneakers, and find out they have a crack in 'em. Then, you end up with a new pair of sneakers all because you stepped into a pile of shit!
So, you think I plopped my foot down on a pile of shit on purpose! No, I just got new sneakers. But.... I kinda like the idea of being so calculating and brilliant.... just might go with that!

I'm sure junc would have been a candidate, if there wasn't a prerequisite to actually be knowledgeable as opposed to opinionated.
Not sure I'd be inclined to vote for JetsIn2004 or TBJ either, not that I don't repect them as posters, or anything, just not sure that either has a superior level of knowledge.
It does seem to me that if someone is resolute in their views that comes across as having knowledge, but I don't buy in to that definition.
My vote goes to Br4dw4y5ux. Now, I'm not even sure he has any particular knowledge or insight, but I do know that when he comments on something it's usually in such a way as to promote further thought or consideration. His views also tend to be well conceived and have a basis in reality. Not that he's right much more than half the time, but who is, really? Plus I like the cut of his jib.

Alright, if TBJ really wants to not be in this, I'll remove him, and put on junc. Sorry junc I go through a lot of nominations and I sometimes miss people.
You probably could have taken Jilozzo off. I just don't think he posts enough to get the votes (even though I nominated him). I think that he is very knowledgeable and deserves recognition.
You gotta redo this poll. If you go Murrell's route (and I think you should), dont forget to include Green Hurricane that time around

I couldn't care less if I win or not, but how the heck is ThunderbirdJet winning this? If I ranked everyone on this list, he'd be dead last. I mean does it only require a few punting reports to win this? What the heck else does he know?
(mezzavo and Jabba would be 1a and 1b for the record)

I don't. If they wanted to remove me from consideration now, Im all for it. No skin off my back.
I just can't see how they can vote someone who does punt reports, and never gives below a B-, along with not knowing much more a win.
Mezz, player, coach, or nothing, is knowledgeable. I didn't even know about that rumor. Guess I'm not very knowledgable. :)

I've given grades to Graham below a B-. You don't have to stoop to lying. So, because I did reports on Graham, I'm a football idiot. LOL. I happen to think that there are others here who deserve this before I do as well. But it's pretty bad form to single one person out and say they shouldn't get any consideration either. It's the sort of behavior I've come to expect from you, however. At least you are consistant.

What a disgrace of a post. I stopped responding to any of your posts some time ago.
Its posts like this and posters like yourself that bring this site down. If you have only read TBJ's punting posts thats your problem. To say "I mean does it only require a few punting reports to win this? is just a flat out lie...and seems to be a cry for help..for what?..I have no idea.

As usual you hit the nail on the head. I did not vote for TBJ (sorry), however, he should not be ashamed of winning this award. Also, his way of not smacking someone over the head with a brick, then saying I win the argument makes him about a 1000 times better poster than some (well at least one) on that list.

Yeah, it just plain ol' SUCKS to be me now doesn't it.
I couldn't care less about winning a poll, except most annoying. I do want that one... When I win it, I'll post it next to my name with pride.
Like I said in the Most Knowledgable thread, I don't think I'm the most knowledgable of the people there. I'd rank the guys listed:
1) Jabba the Jet
2) Mezzavo
3) winstonbiggs
4) me
5) jilozzo
6) kurt
7) Br4dw4y5ux
8) ThunderbirdJet
Only reason I don't rank him 10th is I do not even know Cakes or statjeff.

What's wrong with Punt Reviews? You downplayed them for no reason. There are plenty of Aussies who appreciated it because it gave them some info on Graham's progress.

My last comment on this, and I'm done. I post training camp reports, am active in the draft forums, and often post on offensive and defensive linemen, my pet hobby, which I do all I can to know and understand. I try to be a student of line play. I posted quite a bit over the last two years on Pouha for instance, regarding his poor technique, bad footwork and not using his impressive arm strength correctly to keep O linemen from getting into and under his pads.
I've been published on both the net and in print on football related subjects, including Draft Daddy, Football Guys, the Huddle and others.
Yet, because I did the Graham reports, it's all about that, and only that to people who have an agenda. I don't want to win the voting. I should have pulled out from the very beginning, when I knew it would turn into a big pissing contest. It sucks to come to my own Jets board and feel like I have to defend myself from constant attacks.

First, I want to apologize to TwinJets. You put so much time and effort into something that was intended to be fun and enjoyable only to have it trun into a turd bath. Secondly, I'd like to apologize to the entire board. I do really love this site, it's the best Jets fan MB out there, by a long shot. I was having serious withdrawal syptoms. I did feel like I was in a no win situation. Defend myself, and look petty and egotistical. That was the mistaken path I took. I could have, and should have just ignored any negative posts about me, but I found that for me, it wasn't all that easy to do. I didn't measure up.
Twin.... I hope, like me, you reconsider your decision. I think there have been some good suggestions about changing the names of various awards. Recognizing people for solid contributions and informative posts with or without interjected opinions is a good thing, which went bad this year. Your good intentions and time spent are appreciated, by me and lots of others.
The only real problems came from two awards. Most and least knowledgable. Some people will take it too seriously. I don't think we need a king or the town beggar. There is plenty of room in between. "Linemen Expert". "Special teams expert". "Offensive coordinator". "Defensive coordinator". "Draft expert". No kings, no paupers.
Again, I apologize to everyone, and feel pretty badly about my part in fucking it all up. Twin, most of all.... I apologize.

Great post Tbj. Don't ever ever lower your standards again. Unfortunately, there are people that are simply not worth it. Just let them bang their chests and put em on ignor.

This thread reads a lot like someone isn't happy that they're going to have to hand over their title imminently. :)

I'm entitled to my opinion too.. Sometimes it takes a little guts to not just go along with the masses. I'm not scared to go out on a limb... I don't care what you think of me.. I'll say what I think. I'm not alone in my opinion though. I know that for a fact. I'm one of the few with the balls to say it though.
You think it takes guts or balls to attack a person’s character on an internet forum where we are all anonymous?
You should stick to numbers, in that realm you are a clearly the Savant of the board, it appears when you go outside that area the idiot shows up.

Difficult to chose. This is a who's who of the best posters out there. Despite wanting out, TBJ get my vote. TBJ - You are a class act, and whether you like it or not, people respect your opinions and you should be recognized as such.

By the rightous power now wielded by myself, I endow this award to statjeff, and bestow all of the powers that come with it. This has been voted on by the high council, and approved.
I bow to his awsome posting powers which some have failed to even acknowledge. I can now only be contacted by a Jedi channeler as I have passed into the next realm. May the force be with you, and beware the power of the dark side. Fight maniacle egotism, and the defense of your given title. Envy, ego, fear and jealousy are the tools of the dark side.
Beware young statjeff..... the pull of the dark side is strong.

Since there is (currently) a four-way tie for second place, clearly some sort of "Gang of Four" dictatorship is the most natural solution.

Wow... some of the posters... just wow...
But anyway, Congratulations to TBird, well deserved. Of the people on that list, I'd rank TBird right there at the top when it comes to a diverse knowledge about all things Jets football. Rather than be a one-trick pony like a few others (either a stat junkey, or someone with 3 opinions argued over and over), he shows a control over a large amount of info, as well as a willingness to learn about different concepts.
Also, as far as College Football and the Draft are concerned when it comes to the Jets, I'd put him with Kurt, Cakes, and Jabba as the only ones on there that have both shown quality knowledge as well as effort in the field.

Congrats, Thunderbird even though you still don't want the award. I went with Cakes right before I saw his post saying he didn't want the award. He seems to have a lot of knowledge of Jets football as well as NFL. However, I have been paying closer attention to thunderbird's posts after this award and all the arguing and he is definitly a great poster. He provides explanations on his ideas and doesn't just post one sentence opinions with no backup.

Exactly.
Tbird, enjoy the victory my friend. What you should try to remember is that many other posters could have been nominated because of friendships or favoritism.
That just gets you nominated. To win something you need to have delivered the goods...and you did....ALL YEAR LONG.
No matter what excuses some of these egotistical nutjobs want to through around..you won because the majority believed you should have.
Thats the bottom line.
