Orlando Hernandez pitched a bullpen session for roughly 15 minutes prior to last night’s win over the Cardinals…
Following the session, he told reporters that he feels confident he will be able to pitch in the World Series, assuming the the Mets get there…
…the early buzz from shea points to el duque eventually being used as a reliever, not a starter, since he has less pain throwing from the stretch and may not be able to work more than 75 pitches…of course, he could do this from the start of the game, as well, so i don’t take this statement to mean very much…
----------------------------------------------------------------
In Game Three, Darren Oliver pitched six shutout innings in relief of Steve Trachsel, who allowed five runs and left the game with a bruise to his right thigh…
Prior to yesterday’s game, when asked about whether Oliver could start a potential Game Seven, Randolph told reporters…
“We'll wait and see obviously, but Darren has started for us and that's a possibility. Obviously wait until we get to that point. Yeah, he's done great things for us this year as a spot guy, obviously a long guy and he's pitched in short spots for us, too. I love his versatility. We'll wait and see on that…
…for what it’s worth, willie, oliver has never been a starting pitcher for you this season…
In situations when he has had to pitch more than three inning in a single game, Oliver has a 3.54 ERA spanning 43.1 innings pitched…
…the thing is, game seven is an all-hands-on-deck situation…if oliver starts, it’s more of a formality, since you can bet on seeing Oliver Perez and maybe even Steve Trachsel and Tom Glavine, as well…
Speaking of Trachsel, in the New York Post, Joel Sherman writes…
“Trachsel pulled himself out of the game with his right thigh contusion, Willie Randolph confirmed yesterday…
“When asked what he thought of that, Randolph chuckled and said while walking away, ‘I'm not going to answer that.’”…
Having El Duque back in any way, shape or form could help this team right now, pending the outcome of the NLCS.
