I've absolutely despised Rutuu(or whatever it is) since I first saw him play. Cheap shot artists, always leaving his feet for hits. Someone like him should have no spot in the NHL.

On the Jagr note though, I read he had to sit out the third of yesterday's game? Is it a little more serious than they first let on?

Tretiak wouldn't be able to play well behind the Islanders defense.

I'm hoping his play will improve more though now that the Olympics arent' hanging over his head. He's a world clase goalie(as he's exhibited at the games). But he needs to be a world's best goalie to give the Isle's a decent shot at the po's.

Facts about Henrik Lundqvist:

*Henke is so awesome at stopping projectiles that if you put him between two battallions firing at eachother in a war, there would be zero casualties.

*Rangers games have been banned by the bookies when Henke is in goal. He took away all the fun in gambling.

*Henke is the only human being to display the Heisenberg uncertainty principle -- you can never know both exactly where and how quickly he will smother an impossible shot in his glove.

*Time waits for no man, unless that man is named Henrik Lundqvist.

*Henke is the only goalie to get more than 100% saving percentage.

*Henke sheds his skin twice a year.

*When Henke makes a save, Henke doesn't save the puck. The puck goes to Henke.

*If you look upp the word "victim" in an english dictionary, it defines it as "someone who tries to score on Henrik Lundqvist."

*If you Google search "Henrik Lundqvist performed badly" you will generate zero results. It just doesn't happen.

*It takes Henke 20 minutes to watch 60 minutes.

*Henke amuses himself by dressing flies in a tiny funeral tuxedo before smacking them, because he thinks they have such slow reaction.

*If a hockey player even dreams of scoring a goal on Henke, he will still be there to make the save.

*Henke can touch MC Hammer.

*Some people wear Superman pajamas. Superman wears Henrik Lundqvist pajamas.

*Henke can create coal into a diamond if holding the coal in his glove. Then he can create the diamond back into coal again.

*When Henke makes a move, he doesn't exactly move. It's the world that moves around him.

*Scotty in Star Trek often says “Ye cannae change the laws of physics.” This is untrue. Henrik Lundqvist can change the laws of physics.

*If, by some incredible space-time paradox, Henke would ever compete against himself in each goal, he'd win. Period.

*The creators of the movie Matrix got their ideas for stunts while watching Henrik Lundqvist stand in goal. They had to tone it down though, Henkes' moves were more advanced than the computer technology at that time could replicate.

*Henke is never sick. Viruses and bacterias are too afraid to enter his body.

*The opening scene for "Saving Private Ryan" used a puck machine that Henke uses for soft practice.

*Henke recently had the idea to sell his urine as a canned beverage. We know this beverage as Red Bull.

*Ice hockey don't have intermissions for each 20 min of play to wet the ice again, it's because they need to cool it down from Henke being too hot.

*If at first you don't succeed, you're not Henrik Lundqvist.

*The rocket was originally created because Henrik Lundqvist needed a challenge. The scientists gave up trying to beat him and decided to aim the rocket upwards and fly into space instead.

*Earth scientists had for long wondered how to save the earth from dangerous meteors. That was until Henrik Lundqvist was born.

*There is still a mystery if Henke actually has a black hole planted in his glove.

*Henke sometimes blindfolds himself before going out to the game to make it more challenging.

*Contrary to popular belief, the Titanic didn't hit an iceberg. It hit Henrik Lundqvist out for practice.

*Originally, icehockey was invented by penguins, playing it very skillfully on the North Pole. Then Henrik Lundqvist appeared and the penguins got so frustrated that they had to move to the other side of earth. They have never played hockey again.

*When Israel was bombarded by SCUDs in the Gulf War, Israel was defended by Patriot missiles. As of today, everyone agrees Henrik Lundqvist should have been sent instead.

*Maslow's theory of higher needs does not apply to Henrik Lundqvist. He only has two needs: saving pucks and finding pucks to save.

*Henrik Lundqvist once tried playing baseball as a pitcher. But he was banned from the game, because every time his glove smothered the ball before it came even close to the batter.

*The inventors of the condom wanted to name their creation "Henrik Lundqvist". This wasn't possible though, because the condom isn't 100% effective.

*There are two types of people in the world... people that suck, and Henrik Lundqvist.

*A hockey player once dreamt that he scored a goal on Henrik Lundqvist. Then he was awakened as he got sucked into a wormhole. Even dreaming of scoring a goal on Henke causes a huge glitch in physical laws, logic and possibility.

*The particle accelerator, located in Switzerland and France, was created to try giving Henrik Lundqvist a challenge.

*The minigun was also created to give Henrik Lundqvist a challenge.

*Once Henrik Lundqvist was on vacation and went to the Niagara Falls. He saved every drop for 3 hours and then got bored.

*In off-seasons, Henke sometimes practices by catching landing aircrafts on military carriers.

*Phantom moves faster than lightning flash. Then Henrik Lundqvist robbed Phantom of the puck.

*Lucky Luke shoots faster than his shadow, but then Henke ruined everything and caught the bullet.

Its pretty simple-Hockey doesn't sell. Nowhere near the fanbase of baseball/football(maybe even basketball, though alot of my friends hate that) Isles Rangers or Devils don't come close.
I think the only time its backpage is if its Isles vs. Rangers, or playoffs. Thats it. Rather than that they'd rather report that Johnny Damon cut his fingernails in Tampa today than that the Rangers had a big win for them over Philly.

Is it right--no. But its what sells.

keep denying the facts.....oh well...you keep waiting for the iminent collapse because these other teams are so much stronger....well since you made your ingenius observations they've been unbeaten in like what 7 games or something.....6 straight on the road including 2 in Philly.....and on the Island (but that doesn't count....they're one of those cupcakes).....if you don't think they're legitimate contenders at this point you are in serious denial or don't know much about hockey....I'll assume the first is true

And when everyone said the Islanders made terrible descisions in bringing in Yashin and Peca, the Isles reeled off a 10+game unbeaten streak to start the season. Then a 7 or 8 game streak towards the end as well. I didn't dilude myself then into thinking they were going to win the Stanley Cup that year.

Where did I say they're not good. I said their overhyped and not in the upper-echelon of teams to compete(Detroit, Ottowa, Carolina). They've had a very good year, I haven't denied that anywhere. But so say that the Stanely Cup is going to be won by the Rangers is quite a bit foolhardy.

I can tell your angry...You're getting incoherent.

If they go far in the playoffs and win it all I'll give them all the credit in the world. I just don't see that happening. They're a young time, for the most part not a very physical team. There are other teams that are better suited for playoff runs, and who have been there before.

I just don't see the Rangers really competing.

again, your bias is clearly showing. no Ranger fan in their right mind (I Think) believes their "Favoritres" to win the Cup, but to deny they are legitimate contenders is absolutely laughable.

after about 30 games, it was like, "well there playing pretty well...but how good are they really?"....then after about 40. i was convinced they were better than I thought, now closing in on 60.....they're competing for Seed #1....I think it's safe to say they're better than anyone thought they'd be....and they can compete with all the so called big boys.

BTW...the Isles during those 2 huge playoff seasons (1st round exits) were never where the Rangers are now. The Rangers are damn near challenging the 93-94 team in terms of record...are they as good as that team, no, but they aint that far off.

Yes, I am glad they're no longer the laughingstock.......and happier still that the Isles have seemingly taken over that position

Rangers-Devils Preview
Associated Press
Posted: 2 hours ago

GAME: New York Rangers (36-15-8) at New Jersey Devils (31-22-7).

TIME: Saturday, 7:30 p.m. EST.

A bronze Olympic medalist lifted the New York Rangers to their seventh straight win. A gold medalist will try and extend that streak.

The Rangers are expected to have Henrik Lundqvist back in net as they meet the New Jersey Devils at the Continental Airlines Arena.

Lundqvist was 5-1-0 with a 2.33 goals-against average and .907 save percentage for Sweden. He also made 25 saves in outplaying fellow NHL rookie Antero Niittymaki in a 3-2 win Sunday over Finland that gave the Swedes their first gold medal since the 1994 Lillehammer Games.

The league leader in wins among rookie goaltenders, Lundqvist won his last four games leading up to the break, including a 19-save performance Feb. 10 in a 4-2 home win over Toronto.

The Olympic break did not cool off the Rangers. NHL scoring leader Jaromir Jagr scored twice and added an assist before resting a sore groin in the third period Thursday during the Rangers' 6-1 rout of Philadelphia.

It is the latest the Rangers have been in first place since the 1995-96 season.

Jagr scored two power-play goals in the second period to give the Rangers a 3-0 lead. His second goal also gave him 1,400 career points.

"I got lucky, I scored," said Jagr, who has nine goals and six assists in a six-game points streak. "What do you want me to say?"

Both Lundqvist and Jagr have enjoyed success against the Devils this season.

Lundqvist is 2-0-1 with a 1.64 GAA in three games. Jagr had two goals and an assist Nov. 3 in 4-2 win at New Jersey. Overall, Jagr has three goals and three assists in six games versus the Devils.

After winning in their first game back from the Olympics, the Devils lost 3-2 in a shootout Thursday to the New York Islanders.

Scott Gomez and Jay Pandolfo scored in regulation, but Martin Brodeur gave up shootout tallies to Miroslav Satan and Trent Hunter.

The loss prevented Brodeur from becoming the first goaltender with 30 wins in 10 straight seasons.

"It seems to be the main number for a lot of goalies," Brodeur said. "I wish I could have gotten it, but I'll have more chances at it."

Brodeur is just 2-2-0 against the Rangers this season, but is 31-13-15 with six career shutouts versus them.

STANDINGS: Rangers - 80 points, 1st place, Atlantic Division. Devils - 69 points, 3rd place, 11 PB, Atlantic Division.

TEAM LEADERS: Rangers - Jagr, 42 goals and 91 points; Jagr and Martin Straka, 49 assists; Darius Kasparaitis, 85 PIM. Devils - Brian Gionta, 33 goals and 58 points; Gomez, 34 assists; Colin White, 61 PIM.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Rangers - Power play: 18.6 percent (61 for 328), 8th in NHL. Penalty killing: 85.1 percent (303 for 356), 5th (tied). Devils - Power play: 17 percent (57 for 335), 20th. Penalty killing: 81.6 percent (213 for 261), 17th.

GOALTENDERS: Rangers - Lundqvist (25-7-6, 2 SO, 2.09 GAA); Kevin Weekes (11-8-2, 0, 2.89). Devils - Brodeur (29-18-5, 5, 2.50); Scott Clemmensen (2-4-2, 0, 3.83).

SEASON SERIES: Rangers, 4-2.

LAST MEETING: Jan. 22; Rangers, 3-1. At New York, Lundqvist made 31 saves, and Martin Rucinsky assisted on goals by Petr Prucha and Dominic Moore. Gomez scored for the Devils.

ROAD/HOME RECORDS: Rangers - 17-9-3 on the road; Devils - 19-8-3 at home.

Kevin Weekes will get his second consecutive start in goal tonight. Weekes stopped 36 of the 37 shots in he faced in Thursday night's win. Henrik Lundqvist will be back between the pipes Monday night against the Hurricanes . . . Prucha, who is still recovering from a sprained MCL in his right knee, did not skate yesterday, though he is expected to get back on the ice upon the arrival of a fitted knee brace.

Sorry. I haven't been around for a while. Since the site went down and took my "Ny Rangers Are The Best Team In New York, Period" with it.
Actually, it's been a hectic month...lending my services to returning victims of this Iraq war. But that's not the point of this thread.
The point is, that the Rangers had to lose eventually. It's too bad it had to happen against the Devs, but them's the breaks.
Weekes was also in goal, which is a consolation in the loss.
King Henrik is still the man who's going to take the Blueshirts to the Promised Land. Weekes starting is usually a loss...look at the season so far.
Don't let this loss get you down.
The NY Rangers are playing PHE-NOMENOL despite this debacle at the Byrne.
Lundqvist starts these streaks. And here's to another string of wins.

Messier is an Oiler and he was schooled by the Islanders. If we had it out for any Ranger for beating us it would be Leetch... but all those regular season games don't amount to much when compared to how many times Potvin bitched you in the playoffs and in your own house.

.......well we'll see what Jersey he goes into he Hall with. He wound up playing almost as long with the Rangers as he did with Edmonton

And when I say he's been stuffing up your a$$es.....that does go back to the Oiler days too.........you do remember what team ended the Dynasty now don't you

Rangers fans Chant....and hatred for Potvin started when he cheap shot checked from behind our up and coming star player back then....Ulf Nilsson...but yes, the Isles winning didn't help matters

Regardless of what jersey he wears he had far more success and far more impact on the league and world hockey during his years as an Oiler. During most of his NYR years he was a shell of his former self. He was never an Islander killer, Leetch is your only legit claim to that and that was mostly regular season stuff. Read any of Messiers post game comments from 1984 and you'll know he had nothing but respect for the Isles and said he learned how to win by watching them during the SC the year before when the Oilers were swept by the Isles. Potvin took your players out and your team out when it mattered. The hit on Nilsson was neither dirty nor from behind, it was a legal hip check... ulf was just a soft Euro.

your just like every other Isle fan I know (all 2 of them).......a shell of his former self?.........c'mon now......I never said anything about him not respecting the Isles did I? Get over the old dynasty days...they're very long in the past now

by the way....just like the other posting Isles fan on this board...your envy and bias is apparent....by saying He's an "Oiler",,,just stupdity

I'm sure he considers himself both an Oiler and a Ranger...regardless of the non-objective conclusions you are drawing as to when he had his biggest "impact"......many more objective people would argue that his biggest impact on hockey occurred in 94, not saying that's correct...but a case can be made

oh and by the way, you are right about that Potvin hit not being from behind, as my memories clears, it was a hip check, that injured Nilsson knee somehow......in other words, a dirty hit...see, a clean hip check is hip on hip, not hip on knee

Yes a shell of his former self. The numbers speak for themselves. his on ice production as a Ranger peeked his first season and then declined. His impact on his team peeked in 94, he had a good year in 95 and then went into a steady decline. His last four years in NY were by far his worst 4 years in the NHL... the guy was the best two way center in the sport for a while and in 2000 he was a -25. Like I said, a shell.

by the way....just like the other posting Isles fan on this board...your envy and bias is apparent....by saying He's an "Oiler",,,just stupdity

Or maybe you just can't handle that it's true. He won 5 Cups in Edmonton, he was the heart and soul of a dynasty there... What's your argument based on? That he played almost as many games as a Ranger... well what about those last 4 years of games when he sucked and should have retired? He never had four years like that in Edmonton. Do those 4 years count towards his greatness as a Ranger? What about the fact he played 70 p-off games as a NYR and missed the playoffs 5 years... as opposed to EDM where he never once missed the playoffs and played 166 playoff games. So who's really being biased?

I'm sure he considers himself both an Oiler and a Ranger...regardless of the non-objective conclusions you are drawing as to when he had his biggest "impact"......many more objective people would argue that his biggest impact on hockey occurred in 94, not saying that's correct...but a case can be made

The Oilers of the 1980's changed the way the game was played... running the offense from behind the net, using skilled forwards in all rolls and allowing defensemen to join the play without sacraficing defense, nobody used speedy forwards on the PK to counter attack before Sather did... Mess was part of all of that. If you think one big season in NY is bigger then all that he did in Edmonton you're out of your mind. To call me non-objective is ridiculous... I watched it.
