Jaret Wright vs. Alay Soler

I was at the game yesterday and as a Yankees fan I was dissapointed in the hitting of the bottom of the lineup. The top of the lineup (Damon, Jeter) kept getting on base and setting us up for runs but the bottom couldn't produce. Hopefully we can win tonight and pull the season series to 3-3.

Thats pretty much been the story of the year. we leave too much opportunity on base.

Yankees should rock Soler. If Boston can do it, then we should be able to too.

Except for the fact that Boston can actually score runs.

Hopefully Soler will be more comfortable after getting the big, loud stadium on the road experience out of him, he pitches great on the road where there isn't a lot of pressure and not many fans, but at stadiums like Shea and Fenway he gets nervous and struggles because he can't keep the ball down or get ahead of hitters. Hopefully he'll be used to the kind of atmosphere he's going to encounter to night and it won't rattle him like it did at Fenway.

lol i have stuck through the horrible years....the mets had a 4 game losing streak lol ohhh noooo...theyre still the best record in the NL and 11.5 games in first...

and even if the mets do lose tonight i dont care because i know over the long haul theyre the better team...so it really is nothing more than bragging rights...which this season the mets already have....

and i dont want to hear about the strength of schedule....bottom line at the end of the day thats the reality of it...deal with it and move on

and also dont give me the typical yankee fan comment...how many world series have the mets won???? cuz if you say that i just put you on block cuz thats the routine answer for a yankee fan who has nothing else to say

To be fair, the Yankees had their 1 and 2 starters going while the Mets 2 best by far didn't start this series. We also didn't have Delgado, who is a major part of our lineup.

Heh,any team that wins a lot is going to have bandwagon fans. Look at the patriots. If the Mets were to win the series this year, your gonna see a load of brand new Wright Jerseys everywhere you look. But most of the Yankee fanbase is bandwagon fans? Gimme a break man. That's pretty ridiculous. And you have it backwards,it's the Met fans that bring up the Yankees. Turk, I agree.... I don't hate the Yankees at all, in truth. It's the belligerent Yankee fans that I know that make me pray they fall on their faces. Of course, the Mets have their share of idiot fans too.

From 1967 to 1972, I went to EVERY doubleheader the Mets AND Yankees played at home. Back in those days, that meant about 10 doubleheaders per team, 20 games a piece. I went to Mickey Mantle day.... yeah, a doubleheader. 8 minute standing O. Front row in the left field bleachers, right over the auxilary scoreboard. I also went to opening day for the Mets in '69. Seaver got rocked by Montreal, and one Expo pitcher hit a home run that bounced off the top of the right field wall before it went over. I think the Mets lost, something like 13-11.

Why did I become a Mets fan? My uncles, constantly busting my balls about the Mets.

Why didn't I post last year? Because I quit baseball. Entirely. The player strikes (or threats) the umpire strike, the way the YES network was shoved down my throat, Glavine's assinine comments as a player rep, telling us stoooopid fans how we don't understand the problems the poooor players have, the steroid scandal, making all the hallowed baseball records a sham, and making Cooperstown meaningless...... I could go on. The idiots like Gooden and Strawberry. I went 5 years without watching a single game. I was pissed.

What brought me back? David Wright. He is a throw back guy. No roids. No huge ego. No drugs. So, deal with it.

Have they said how long the delay would be?

TJF - If for some reason the game doesnt get played tonight then either they will only play the game at the end of the year if it is needed for either team in the standings or if both teams have the same day off, it could be rescheduled for then.
The game brings in tons of revenue so I cant see it never getting played.

Turk, just to throw my 2 cents into this convo, yes, there are plenty of the 26-2 Yankee fans, but if you have been reading Mets/Yankees fans, you will see that there are just as many Mets fans who are just as arrogant about their team.
On this site, it really does go both ways.
I cant tell you how many times I have started a thread about the Yankees that have quickly gone into an insult fest due to a Mets fans coming in and saying something.
Just as I would expect a Mets fan to defend their team if someone started talking shit about them out of the blue, Yankee fans will do the same thing.
And if you do read the threads, you will also know who the posters are who are really interested about discussing baseball and who are just in there to stir things up - from both sides.

That was pretty cool.... thanks FTC!

I'm still pretty ticked off though... McGwire, Sosa, Bonds.... really ruined the historical signifigance of the game. They gave Maris an *, but these wank-wads who don't deserve to grovel in Mays, Mantle's or Aaron's poopy get off scot free.... it still really gets me bent.

I don't giva chit what Bonds does. Ruth won 100 games as a pitcher before he became an every day player. That's 5 years. He out-homered EVERY team in baseball when he hit 61! He is still the greatest HR hitter of all time, period. These guys don't even come close.

Bonds, even if I forget the roiding, isn't in the top ten of all time in fact he isn't top 20, again, not even close. Walk through Cooperstown. Read the numbers on the plaques of guys you never heard of. It's amazing. Time makes us forget so many great players.....

ive been reading the mets and yankees related threads this year...and a lot of the points made by yankee fans around here are all contradictory and one sided points....and it just portrays the majority of the yankee fanbase....

and i despise the yankees not because of their franchise....because i have no problem saying the yankees are the most successful franchise in all of sports and my hat goes off to the yankees history world series wins....the yankees are the model franchise, all teams try to live up to...

its the yankees fanbase whom i cant stand

Well it goes both ways man. There have been several threads on this board in the past 3 months or so that had absolutely nothing to do w/ the Mets and somehow Met fans turned it into a insult match.

Met fans act as if the Yankees are the worst team in baseball and give the Yankees no respect. When Yankee fans retaliate suddenly we're "Spoiled band wagoners who weren't even alive for most of those championships." Well which is it, do we suck or did we in fact have all the success we claim to? Certainly if you look through the record books the championships are there. The 8 straight division titles are there. So what does this "Yankees suck, GYC, etc" demonstrate? Quite the inferiority complex.

So when Met fans try to bully around Yankee fans over a losing streak or some past defeat, we have every right in the world to defend our team, and if that includes showing some pride for past accomplishments, deal with it. If Met fans are gonna make comments like "Davd Wright >Lou Gehrig" they deserve to hear 26-2. At that point we start to hear the bandwagoner crap, and how we force our will unto other fan bases. Now there are some who do that, but in all honesty, I don't see it that often on this board. I see troublemakers from both sides, and lately, it's been more from the Mets.

Then when things really get out of hand, the Boston fans weigh in, and attempt to gang up on the Yankees. At that point its reduced to childish name calling and pure immaturity. It has become like some childish world war between a bunch of internet sports fans. Frankly it's gotten so bad...I don't enjoy baseball nearly as much as I used to.

What? Soler shouldn't go back to the minors, and Pelfrey is likely to be a disaster considering most scouts (and his minor league coaches) have said his offspeed and breaking stuff is not there yet.

Yeah, I'm not one to pile on Randolph like some fans do but that really shows a big difference between him and Torre (the guy who supposedly can't manage a bullpen.) If he doesn't take out Jaret Wright the Mets would be leading 8-0 or something right now.

BTW way to go A-Rod, I think that his walkoff against Atlanta may have been a turning point for him.

Why would you bring Bell in with the bases loaded? It's still a 2-run Mets favor lead at that point. Bradford.

Bradford in the 3rd inning? Good lord you can't go that far.

Please, one good move by Torre doesn't make up for many years of leaving pitchers in for way too long.

Come on, I gave Torre credit for tonight, but let's not pretend he is even halfway decent at in-game managing.

We really need to take advantage of the ignorant DH rule and get back in this game against a weak bullpen.

Oh yeah he sucks at managing bullpens. This good move just shone very brightly because it contrasted Randolph's terrible one.

I worry about Villone handling the extremely long inning after only pitching one batter in the last frame. If the Mets are gonna get back in it right now is gonna be their best chance.

Again though...This bullpen is going to get eaten...Let Beam pitch a few, although a 5-run lead with this middle relief isn't exactly comfortable.

Here's the difference between Torre and Willie. Torre managed to win tonight. Willie has to do that and not worry about tomorrow, Oliver has been lights out in games like this, but Willie needs him to start tomorrow so he doesn't use him today. First try to win the game today and don't worry about tomorrow, cross that bridge when you come to it.
