My question is why is he so for torture now? He had to leave the group after torturing Sawyer but this was okay?
I'm not sure if I saw what I thing I saw but when Jack pulls Sayid off the guy it looked like a shot of the guys wounds healing. It was a quick shot.
Did anyone else notice this as well?

It was an okay episode. Sayid's backstory while pointless was still entertaining. But I still can't get over how they completely bullshitted their way once again out of the countdown reaching zero, only to give an extra five second grace period in which to put in the code. Ugh! And can Jack just grow a pair already. I've never seen such a whiney little bitch before.
Next episode looks pretty good. But as we've seen time and time again with this series, looks can be deceiving. And regarding the preview to the next show. Anyone else find it hilarious that nobody on the island has come across a huge entrance that seems to be only covered by a few vines and leaves?

The answers are never coming. The most we get is a half assed fake out reveal that spawns dozens of more questions. And those are the GOOD episodes. All these "nods to the obsessive fans" are beginning to annoy me as they seem to be mostly irrelevant to anything other then to get people talking/speculating. The "numbers" and other stuff like that were interesting at first but have gone absolutely NOWHERE. Just like the hyroglyphic/symbols last night are interesting, but I'm sure they won't be explained or even discussed.

About the 'other' captured guy, from another forum:
Our boy from Minnesota has no accent, eh? Sayid is right on the $, this boy is lying.
From a friend who reads up on the Lost boards:
Henry Gale, Dorothy's uncle from Wizard of Oz. Oz himself who ended up in Oz when his air balloon was caught in a storm.
Henry Gale was also an important physicist in the first half of the 20th century. He worked in the fields of astrophysics and in magnetism. He died 11-16-42.

It's really like a never ending cocktease isn't it. We're offered up the promise almost ever week of learning something significant as to what the hell is going on on the island. Given cryptic clues that can lead down a million different paths.
Revealed enigmatic figures [Desmond/French Lady/CrazyBearded Guy] who come and go as they please, disppearing for huge stretches at a time. Shown incredibly interesting objects and creatures [Shawdow Monster/Polar Bear/Black Rock] that are quickly forgotten about and pushed aside all to further the character development to annoying assjockeys like Charlie and Jack. I really wouldn't be this angry if I didn't like the show so much either. The premise is just too good to go to waste.
Now to completely change the subject for a moment. Did anyone else notice the fact that it was Kate's dad that initially interrogated Sayid, and asked him if he had a wife and child when they were traveling in the truck together? He even showed a real picture of a younger Kate. I don't know how I could have possibly missed it at the time, but I did. And I didn't realize it until today when I read up on it. Interesting.

But I don't think it was set in time. I don't Locke made it and whatever happened happened. I mean maybe it's not noticable to them now. Doesn't have to be an explosion or somthing.... I bet there's some changes on the island now.

there doesn't seem to be a consensus about the symbols. people are trying way too hard I think for something that is going to be completely irrelevant. one thing i've learned is that if its supposed to be a real clue the show is going to make it painfully obvious. i'm now convinced that they throw shit like this in to give people something to obsess over for a couple weeks, and that's it. if it was relevant to the plot/story then you can bet it would've been alot clearer then some arabic/hyroglyphic symbols that people still can't figure out.
the second panel is missing, so you can't really get a full translation anyway. the two popular theories seem to have it relating either to death or simply saying 'leave'

having watched it i actually think this was a pretty good episode. sayid can act which can't be said about certain major cast memebers.
about the guy that got captured, the dude is either a terrible actor or the writers wanted to make it abundantly clear that he is an "other". sayid left the pliers in the armory so you can bet he'll be escaping next episode.
i like the "evil group" they're setting up with sawyer, sayid and (ugh) charlie. jack is as unlikable as ever, not to mention he played the button scene way way over the top, i was expecting his eyes to pop outo f his head.
to end things on a suitably negative note, the "tree frog" scenes/plotline may have been the worst we've seen on the show yet.

he hieroglyphics translate to "Cause to Die".
Sylvain has let me know that colour also plays a part in Egyptian hieroglyphics. The red colour being: symbol of "violence", "desert" and "death". The black colour being: symbol of "death" or "resurection". So from what we have so far this is going in the direction of death.

One of the worst episodes thus far. I mean, I know the acting you get on TV isn't always going to be top notch, but the characters this episode focused on are probably the worst on the show. We get Ethan drugged you Claire, you don't have to talk like a space cadet and laugh like a twit every 5 seconds. I'm also getting a little fed up with the "dramatic music" throughout the entire goddamn show. It's reaching laugh track levels of awfulness.
The hatch guy is awesome and the last scene with Locke was very well done. Only positive of the show(besides no dog face).

I think that it showed that the others are putting on some kind of a "show". There is something or somewhere "backstage" Zeke is all nicely dressed and clean shaven as is Ethan. The are able to have various and unlimited supplies.

Aside from the obvious "confessing/pennace for his sins" I had one other thought while watching this. It almost seemed like when he was talking about "being back on the righteous path" that he thinks he made a mistake by not letting the others take him from the beach and that he wanted them to know he should still be on the "good" list.
I think he absolutely believes the guy is one of the others and wouldn't be suprised to find both hatch guy and Eko gone in an upcoming episode.

The main plot was very poorly done, especially for a show before a long break. "Hey, lets have the others clear everything out of the bunker and made every attempt to hide the bunker, except for closet fulls of ragged island gear, so when the people from the beach eventually find it, the viewers at home will get it". Very inconsistent and sloppy writing.
Gale is awesome and the conflict between Locke and Jack will be good, however the show seriously suffers from pandering to the women demographic. I imagine the upcoming "Can I have a pregnancy test Sawyer" from Sun will result in me finally punching out.

Gulp, I agee with you Dino. I thought last night's episode was by far one of the best so far this season. I usually get where 3rd is coming from, and most of the time agree with him when an episode doesn't deliver. But damnit, last night's episode was fantastic. Can Claire act worth a shit? No. Am I happy they didn't reveal more? Of course not. But I was entertained! From start to finish. So I don't mind overlooking the little things.
And best of all... there were no backstories! Atleast none of the soap oprea variety we've become so accustomed to. God I hope they do away with those now. Didn't last night's episode flow so seemlessly when they kept the entire show on the Island? Too bad by the looks of the next episode we'll be back to the same mundane shit, and I'll be agreeing once again with 3rd.

Gale is awesome and the conflict between Locke and Jack will be good, however the show seriously suffers from pandering to the women demographic. I imagine the upcoming "Can I have a pregnancy test Sawyer" from Sun will result in me finally punching out.
I got the complete opposite reaction to that scene. I thought it was way too contrived. Is Locke really gullible enough to let a simple sentence so violently impact him? How dumb can he be not to see that Gale is trying to drive a wedge inbetween him and Jack. I get the whole 'Locke doesn't like to be told what he can't do' crap. Maybe Jack even reminds him of the box factor bully. I don't give two shits. The writers spent so much time last year building him up into some superhuman wilderness man, who could smell fear. And now we're to believe he's not clever enough to figure out when someone is trying to play him?

I just couldn't get into 3 characters I could care less about going on a trek through the jungle. And the drugged Claire scenes were absolutely cringe worthy. The best "character" episodes this year have been Eko and Sayid, Eko because his character is interesting and we hadn't known much about him and Sayid because the guy can actually act.
As I said there were good parts of this episode but far far too few. The biggest thing that gets me though is the lack of continuity from episode to episode. I mean, where is Jack and Ana's goof troop army? Has that even been mentioned since it was the "climax" of an episode 2 months ago? What happened to Sawyer being an evil frog killing con man? Kate bats her eyelashes at him and he's giving her a gun. Please. And I'm sure for the next few episodes we won't even hear that they ended up finding a medical hatch when they went in the jungle.

I'm willing to buy into the fact that Gale is some kind of behavioral specialist or that kind of scientist. Pretty much everyone on the island has deep seated psychological issues and it can't be too hard to figure out which buttons to push(or maybe he already knows?). I mean if you're going to accept that Sawyer is some kind of master con man(appears to me that he was only the "face") and can manipulate everyone on the island, I have no problem with Gale playing Locke and Jack against each other.

Some valid complaints there, especially the last one. Although the majority is due to your own personal tastes. For example. I don't mind Kate and the French chck nearly as much as you do. So the episode didn't drag for me due to the fact that they were prominently featured. But to each his own, I guess. Although, I don't see future episodes being that much better than last night's.

The Kate/French Chick "kill me" thing really bugged me. French Chick has a gun strapped on her back for crying out loud. Not only was it way out of left field but it strayed badly into melodrama.
Just as an aside, is it just me or does it feel like they first went down the original hatch about 3 seasons ago? I mean that was what, 10 episodes ago? I think the erratic scheduling really hurts the show, especially with the type of show it is.

There was a back story it just was about something recent instead of years past or right before the flight.

No way. And I'm sure the others left what they left because hey didn't really care about that junk. They only needed what was valuable.
The thing with Sun and her being pregnant is great. This is setting up a major plot for the next two seasons probably. It just seems like you hate everything about this show.
I don't get your women thing here....

They want a baby or kids so they can groom. Claire rebuffed them but I think that turnip head will be kidnapped eventually,
Since it was shown as a coming attraction I will believe in the swerve where sun takes the test and finds out that she isnt pregnant.

Hmmm I doubt they do away with the backstories. I was kinda mad they didn't have one for Clair cause we don't know much about her. Her and Michael aren't really involved with much in the backstories. Maybe they will for next season. Afterall, Season 1 had breaks too but they weren't like this year. They were longer breaks which is somthing I don't really mind. A break around christmass is fine for me.
You can either do what Prisonbreak did. Which is like take a 3 month break. Starting in Sep....
You can do 24 and just start the season in Jan.
Or Lost which is start is Sep and take breaks during tehs eason.
Personally I wouldn't want a series I watch start in Jan. I just don't like that. And breaks add to the suspense and thinking about thes eries. Of course the scheduling in season 1 was better than it has been this year. Hopefully they get on track moe with Season 3.

No, more like how Junc defends the Jets and the Yankees.
Sorry Dino, I am on the crap episode side on this.
I thought it was horrible. I do understand that the pregnancy does give something towards future story lines but the episode was boring.
I really dont care if Jin shoots blanks. What I do care about is how characters change from episode to episode. Jin goes back to the demanding husband and then "cares" at the end.
Sawyer just gives up the pregnancy test and he lets Charlie keep a gun.
The only thing that was good was Gale's description for sabatoge while eating cereal and Jack/Locke's reaction to it.
First the Soprano's and now Lost. The only 2 shows that I make sure I watch.

You hit it pretty much on the head. There is absolutely NO consistency between the episodes or how the characters act. The show has turned into a collection of short stories about people on the island rather then, you know, a TV show. Before this episode Sun and Jin were on good terms, but of course at the start of this Jin starts acting like season 1 Jin for no apparent reason, then by the end he's back to loving Jin. Ugh.
Same thing happened in Sawyers episode. He's been a wise cracking more or less good natured guy for about a year now, and on his episode he turns into this evil schemer taking all the guns etc. Of course since then we've seen him turn back into the wise cracking good natured guy. You can really tell its a bunch of different writers working on the show.

Well. These guys can make the show just for me then. I don't know what to tall ya.

still no one thinks the baby is Mikes? bah!
I think we all agree that we are done with the flashbacks.
On the Sopranos note, if there are any more dream sequences I'm gonna kill someone. I simply walk out of the room and make a blooody mary when the sequences start. Needless to say-I get drunk pretty fast, which doesn't help my disposition regarding those sequences by the end of the show. There are reasons why I stay away from TGG when watching Sopranos...I could easily get a suspension...

Blah episode, don't even feel like getting that in-depth as to why I thought it was so bland. I concur wholeheartedly with those that said the previews were much more entertaining than the show itself.
On a side-note, for those paying super close attention. Anyone hear the voice at the end of last night's preview. The one that quickly says "What happend?" Sounds like the return of Desmond to me. Can't wait.

What Jin could not understand.
From Sledges Site
In Fire + Water there was a sign in the London Skyline for Widmore Construction. The sign turned out to be illegible, but it is known from the official podcast that this sign was posted in the episode. In "The Whole Truth", Sun obtains a pregnancy testing kit from Sawyer, which is labeled Widmore Labs. Is it possible that Widmore Corp/Labs is working with the Dharma Initiative and/or Hanso? We'll have to wait for more information to be sure. Remember, Michael has worked in construction in the past.

I know. A show about a school would be hard to keep up. And four seasons?! I watched them all too. Season 4 was really getting crazy. The Practice went 8 seasons. I never got tired of the whole court thing. So I think Naveen just doesn't know where the show Lost could really go. There a MANY ways to go with this show still. The creators said they were thinking of 5 seasons. I'm sure they have it all planned out allready.

I kind of agree with him though, they haven't done anything this season except try to stretch out the story more, all we found out(will find out) this season is what was in the hatch and how the plane crashed. The show probably isn't meant to last long, either they all die or get rescued. I never watched the X Files, but I believe this is the same thing I heard that show did, just stretched the story out until ratings dropped and they basically tried to answer as many questions as they could leaving some unanswered.

I think a a bridge between two gaps would be better words to describe season 2. Alot of Season 2 was essential to put in with the people from the other side of the island and their story. That had to take up alot of time. Everyone's thinking that theres not much left to do on this show. I believe they are wrong. I can see big changes that could happen with the show. I think eventually there will be a mass killing of the Lost population that will take the survivors from 40ish to the teens to tighten up the whole Lost world. I think there could be lots more of Lost travel. Iv'e seen the maps from other web sites and there is alot of unexplored land and even a couple small islands that lay next to the one they live on. We still don't know shit about the others. And I'm sure there's a bunch of stuff that hasn't even been introduced yet. I have faith that the series won't be doing the same thing over and over again each season. That's the thing. Cause you guys think it will be the same. There could be another plane crash with more people. Who knows...

The problems with Lost are myriad. First and foremost would be the continued use of the flashbacks. Second up is the ridiculously bloated cast.
Both of these can be traced back to the fact that Lost was originally only supposed to last a season. The flashbacks worked in season 1 as a way to connect the characters and get some idea of what they were like before they were on the island. They've totally fallen flat in season 2, with the exception of the Eko flashback.
The cast is probably the single biggest problem with Lost right now though. Again, in season 1 they were able to somewhat pull off having each episode focus on a different "main" character, both because we learned important background information about the character, and because the plot was advancing at an acceptable rate. Neither holds true for season 2. Instead we have 15 or so disjointed episodes, perambulating through about 10 days real time on the island. Supposed main characters go 6 or 7 episodes without saying a line, or only show up to be caught secretly eating food, or crying about the baby it's just awful.
I mean, its almost like each episode is a little spinoff show featuring the flashback character. You have an awesome Eko episode, and we've basically seen NOTHING of him since. We had dogface shoved down our throats for about a month only to see her role reduced to awkwardly flirting with Jack. Kate hasn't done anything in season 2 except make moon eyes at Sawyer. During Sawyers episode it sets him up as an evil motherfucker and then of course next week he's back to being the "sweet bad boy" UGH.
I could write alot more but I'm going to cut it off here. I like your mass killing idea alot Dino, and at this point killing off a bunch of the "main" characters is probably the only way this show is going to be able to keep going.

Last one season? I don't think so man. The creators said they are shooting for 4. Find me an article where it says one season.
The cast is a problem? Jesus. I love the cast. I love everything you think is a big problem. I don't know why. I think these guys are doing great. I wouldn't have selected Michelle for Anna Lucia. But that's basically it. And with such a big cast it's reasonable to have an episode or two withought one of the main characters in it. I find that as a nice break to check out someone else for a change. Although I think it's been long enough withought Michael. He should return soon. They did this in season 1 with Sayid. He was out for like 2 episodes after his French chick episode. And that's just one example.
And Anna Lucia hasn't been in the that many scenes honestly man. After the whole "reunion" She's barely been a factor untill last weeks episode. I don't know how many times you guys have watched these eopisodes. One? I have the whole seasoon on my Tivo and have watched them all about 3 or maybe even 4 times. The only reason you liked that Eko episode is cause youv'e never seen one before. But the next time we have an Eko centric episode you will just moan and groin. I think taking the flashback scenes out of the show all together would be bad. Maybe if it's a special occation but not permanent.
And who knows. Maybe some of the extras will become leads. They could be replaced with big time actors of course. I only know what a couple of the extras really look like. I think there's a reason there are so many extras on the show. Otherwise it just be a hassle if it were for nothing.

Most of the cast can't act but that's not really what I was saying. It's impossible to tell a coherent story with any kind of realistic pacing when you're constantly shifting the focus around from 12 or 14 main characters. They should pick 4 or 5 or maybe less as the main characters and relegate the rest of the undeveloped and uninteresting characters to supporting roles where they belong, rather then wasting an hour on them every other week.

You have to go into the show with an open mind, though. If you go in expecting mediocre rubbish, it'll just end up becoming a self-fulfilling prophesy. It's the same as going into the show with unjustifiably high expectations. You're bound to be disappointed either way. Personally I expect to be entertained and the shows creators to live up to their promise of making 5 ground shattering revelations. Each one more more explosive than the last. I expect only what I've been promised and of course the opportunity to be entertained in the process.
If these expectations are not met, then let the pile on begin.

I guess it depends on the person. Going in with low expectations makes me more likely to enjoy the show, at least based on my experience.
Like you say, if they deliver on the revelations with no cop outs then I'll be satisfied.

Well said. I try going into it with high hopes thinking for the best. You can relate this to my attitude towards the Jets which is funny cause it's true.
Despite what you guys think I have not loved all the episodes this season.

The only thing I think will be in there for sure is a double cross on Locke. And maybe Locke gets beat up too.

you know no one is going to die because they have to hype the episode up for a month beforehand. that being said if they did manage to pull off a "suprise" death of a major character(dogface, i'm looking at you) I would never complain about the show again.

Two words.
Leslie Arzt.
He was a surprise death. And Boone's death wasn't that well known. If you stayed away from the spoilers it was a shocker! Shannon. You could just tell it was coming.

First, Arzt was never a main character. He was a character that existed to be killed. He was introduced a show or two before he died, and was unbelievably annoying. By the time "unstable dynamite" was brought up and Arzt volunteered to go anyone paying attention knew he was gone.

It was still a surprise. BOOM! And so was Boone's death. I don't care what anyone says. If you don't wanna be spoiled about it then don't viset the Losts sites.

That episode kicked ass.
The whole Hatch meltdown started 10 minutes into the show 3rd. Not my guess of 25 minutes into the show and no where near 5 minutes to the end of it.
That episoe had a real nice twist with Henry Gale. I had no idea what to expect from him and now it seems he isn't even Henry Gale. Some black guy was. The only thing I was expecting that did not happen was that I thought we'd finally find out how Locke got handicaped. I was thinking those two guys killed Hellen and handicaped Lockes legs. I doubt that we will find out this season how it still happened but I would think it would have to come the next time Locke has a centric episode. It was still very good. It's also obvious Locke's dad is the one who conned Sawyers mother.
I'm sure a picture will surface on the net tomorrow on what was on that wall. I allready know. It's a picture of the island with all the Dharma stations. I saw writing that said "here" on it, which must be where they are. I also saw little Hatches. Like one close by which must have been where Claire was taken and another on the other side of the island where Anna, Eko and the others came from. So I think I have that figured out. The Locke/Gale scenes were pretty intense and I enjoyed the whole Jack/Sawyer showdown events. Those who don't can piss off. Also. It's obvious the walls came down when they did was because somthing flew by and dropped off food for the Hatch.
Maybe Henry Gale is that doctro from the picture eh?

Half the episode was a poker match between jack and sawyer
The flashback didn't go anywhere besides Helen leaving Locke, didn't find out why he paralyzed, nothing.
The lockdown just happened, we didn't find out anything, they will probably never mention it again with the continuity of this show
The only thing that happened was we find out Gale is not Gale in the last minute of the show...
Yeah, sounds kick ass to me...

Half the epsiode was not a poker match. First of all pretty much the whole episode was in the Hatch. There were two scenes on the beach. Big god damn deal. I found it amusing. And actually they dished out some weird info on Jack and Sawyer a tad. Makes me think there's more to Jack then therre is.
And your mad that we were left with a cliffhanger? Don't be such babies!!! What the hell did you expect. It makes it all better. The episode was great withought it.
Yeah and I'm sure that the end of that story. As I proved 3rd wrong with my prediction I'll prove you wrong for next weeks episode.

This diagram, which appeared briefly towards the end of the episode, displays all of the hatch symbols arranged in an octagon. It would appear the "Chernobyl" hall is a feature that exists within each station. For those of you who do not know, an upcoming episode is titled "?". Could that mysterious chamber be the center of that episode?
One boost for underwater station theorists is that there is a chamber which appears outside of the perimeter of the octagon which leads to the swan station. If the octagon symbolizes the island, your underwater station exists. But some folks are saying (and I tend to lean this way) that the circle is saying (I am here.)
And just why would someone paint this map in invisible ink, on the inside of a blast door?
Number freaks had quite a few nods as well, most notable for me was the address of the "real" Mr. Gale. 815 Walnut Ridge Rd.
