I can't really blame Randy for this. Players get old and their bodies start to break down. With the exception of Roger Clemens, no player has been able to almost completely escape old age.
A good thing here if that a "breaking-down" Randy is still better than about 80% of the pitchers in the league.
Us Yankee fans should be more concerned with the inability to score runs with our "mighty" lineup.

The lineup, even without Sheffield and Matsui, is not the problem right now. Our supposed "ace" pitching to a 5 ERA, that's the problem.

Ok, I'll agree that the OF is a concern, but we still have A-Rod, Jeter, Damon (best? leadoff hitter in the AL?), Giambi, Posada, and Cano swinging the bat, and we still put up a solid 1 run against Harden.
I'm not saying Randy isn't to blame. His age is finally beginning to show, but IMO we have bigger problems on the offensive side of the game.

IMO,Randy just doesn't belong as a NY Yankee. He would still be dominant on a Nat league small market team. He's just not a NY guy.

I'm not gonna go as far and say that...Because we all wanted an Ace, begged Cashman to get an Ace...And, he did it. And I know at least 90% of us were in favor of the trade...I just didn't like shipping Navarro, but it happens...
Yes Randy sucks, and I hope he retires so he can give the money back:breakdance:, but it won't happen...He's just gutless.

I know about 90% of NYYFans.com were completely against the trade. Tampa/Levine brokered the RJ deal, that deal was one of the reasons Cashman wanted complete autonomy.

Well that's news to me. The object was to get an ace...I was fine parting with Vasquez and Halsey, but Navarro I wanted to keep pretty bad...
I say most Yanks fans were for it because of the year he came off of, he was an Ace, and that's what the Yankees were missing. I wanted Tim Hudson, but thatw as about 2% chance of happening...
I'm not gonna blast the trade because I just wanted a guy you can depend on every 5th day for a win, and at the time, Randy was

Hughes cannot be called up yet. He needs 150-200 more professional innings before that could even be considered.
I'm curious, is Hughes in AAA? Is he near major league ready yet?
Just asking. I don't know much about the Yankees farm system.

Darrell Rasner would probably be the first guy to call up, he pitched a little for the Nationals last year but Jim Bowden (the worst GM in baseball) released him. He's done well for Columbus.
None of this matters, because unless Johnson is put on the DL, he will make his starts, as awful as he might be.
I don't know what's wrong with Unit... but if we're going to contend he's going to have to be one of our best pitchers. The rotation has been quite inconsistent outside of Moose, but things aren't looking that bad right now.
Anyone think Randy is hurt?

Anyone think Randy is hurt?
Its his mechanics, he went from hitting 97-98 to 92 all of a sudden. He opens up his shoulder, his elbow motion is wrong and he tips his pitches. You can put some blame on Guidry however Johnson last year had to be practically babied by Flaherty, Johnson is just not listening to anyone else. He belongs in a smaller market or the NL.

I didn't really have an opinion about the trade. Wasn't sure how Johnson would readjust to the AL, but it looked like Vaz wouldn't get a chance to succeed here, and Halsey definitely wasn't. I wasn't as high as most were on Navarro
I did want Beltran though. Thought we needed him more than we needed to trade for Johnson.

He had 0.95 WHIP last year in 7.1 innings. Very, very, very small sample size, but still very good.

The man is in his 40's for crying out loud. We should've never picked him up, on top of which i believe he's signed for a few more years which makes it worse. I just want this nightmare to end already but realistically that won't happen. He's untradeable, injured and old, what a combo.

a lot of yankees fans saw this coming right when they traded for him....we were the suckers this time in going for the big name, and now we're paying for it.....never liked this trade in the beginning at all, but i hope somehow randy picks up his game to atleast be a decent starter

I'm not ready to give up on Randy just yet. He certainly isn't the long term answer at ace for this team, but I have a feeling he will go back to his old self very soon.
He started off the year quite well and only recently he started struggling w/ his mechanics. If he can figure out that aspect and get some rythym to his game...I think he'll go back to being a very good pitcher for us.

Can't blame Randy for his current woes. He's old and doesn't have the stuff to intimidate hitters anymore.
I was listening to one of those canned national radio shows early this morning (or, late late night, depending on your perspective). I heard some Yankee fan call in and brush off any concern because, "George will find a way to trade for Dontrelle Willis."
There's more good, young, tradeworthy talent in George's Ocala horse stables than in the Yankee farm system.
