Expect Junc to jump right back into the post count lead with his insane stalking and jealousy of the GYC union... and all the little haters to chip in by feeding the monster...

It's not hating on our part... we're celebrating. Celebrating a historic moment... something that has never happened in the history of baseball and that is a team totally collapsing in the most embarassing form possible. That's right four in a row, two of which were played on home turf. Not that game seven was ever in doubt, I mean the NYY never even showed up for that... but technically speaking they lost 4 in a row.

GYC is a lifestyle... live it!

You know as well as I do that the only important Championship is the last one. Unless, of course, something truly memorable happens. Say, for instance, a team loses a seven game series after being up three games, leading into the ninth of game four. Kind of merits special recognition, wouldn't you say?

If that keeps you warm at night, go for it. I'll point out, though, that typing in "biggest choke in sports history" as a Google search yields somewhat different results. :)

Here. I had this lying around for you.

sunday, you don't know jack. It's more recent is all. Was it a huge choke? Yes,absolutely. But the Sox made a near century out of it. They found new creative ways to do it all the time. They were like artists of the choke. They finally got one on us,and that is why it's so big. Because the likelyhood of it happening again is very ...unlikely. So you guys have to get as much out of it as you can.
Win one, youre lucky. Win 2,youre good. Win three, youre the Yankees!

You don't need to tell me about Red Sox chokes. I've lived through a dozen or more of them. Surprising, though, after all this time, you guys still don't get that GYC isn't about the Red Sox; isn't about the Mets; isn't about anyone else in baseball.

26 blah blah blah . . .

You know as well as I do that the only important Championship is the last one. Unless, of course, something truly memorable happens. Say, for instance, a team loses a seven game series after being up three games, leading into the ninth of game four. Kind of merits special recognition, wouldn't you say?

OK then the Sox last title is irrlevant since it's not the most recent?

and you are telling me you'd rather have 1 title in 87 years than 4 in the last 10 and 26 in the span it took you to go from 5 to 6?

Why do you always bring up ancient history that occured before anyone here was born? That's like saying we should be ashamed to live in the United States because we had slavery 200 years ago.

OK, since we were born the Yanks have 6 Championships which is 5 more than Boston and the Mets and 4 more than the Mets and Boston combined. is that better?

If that helps you rationalize the greatness of the Yankees then continue doing it but I'd do the last 10 years over in a heartbeat. i'll take one collapse w/ 4 mroe Championships thrown in. EVERY other MLB team would do anything they could to have the success we've had the last 10 years.

I don't know about that, they give out about 4 titles a year. well, last time i checked the world had a party celebrating the millennium on the eve of 1999-2000. So ,thats the way it is looked at,except when talking yanks/sox baseball I guess. Technically,yes,2001 is considered the new century. But still in all, thats a pathetic attempt to try and bury the success of the Yankees compared to the pathetic-ness of the Sox history.
As much as I hated to see the Sox win and i would never lie and say i wasn't crushed, that win only drew attention to the glorified 86 years of failure to the whole baseball world when before it only mattered to the AL east fans and,oh yeah, that jealous team across the bridge.

jeez junc we have gone through his before.... I know you personally don't care about soccer but because you and about 200 million people out of 7 billion don't care doesn't mean it is irrelavant. You can choose to ignore the records but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Once again for your pleasure

Real Madrid has 29 Spanish Championships, that is not including any of these so called 4 other championships they don't hand out but you say exist. They have 9 Champions League Titles, that would be the equivalant of taking the top 4 teams in the US, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Cuba, Canada, and Panama and playing a tournament to find out who is the best in the world.

Juventus in the Italian League has 26 Italian Championships that is the equivalant to 26 World Series titles because just like the WS it is a domestic championship.

Arguabley the most succesful franchise on the planet is Bayern Munich in the German league as they have 19 and closing in on 20 German Titles in less than 40 years. When a team has won 50% of the titles in it's league that is what you call domination.

If we really want to get technical how many Yankee championships are really "world series"? Maybe the last 4 because in the 80's is when baseball truely became a global game. On the other hand soccer always has been and always will be a global game. If you really want to make a fuss out of this The Yankees haven't won any World Series titles just American domestic championships.

real madrid was thew team I was trying to think of but either way soccer s not a big spectator sport in this Country, baseball is. People care more about baseball and the NY Yankees than they do about some foreign soccer teams. Nah,i've seen them. Someone at my kids school sports a ManU sticker on their car. It's usually parked in a lot with about 10 cars with yankee stickers. ManU or anything else is not nearly as known or celebrated as yankees baseball. Yankees baseball is the face of sports in general and has been for nearly a century. Spoken like a true New Yorker. Right now David Beckham is the most popular athlete in the world and that was established during his years with Man U. That is the typical American response... if it's not American why should I care. Babe Ruth probably isn't even the most recognized American Athlete of all-time. I would think Michael Jordan is more well known than Babe Ruth. Basketball spread throughout Europe, Asia, Africa , South America, and Australia because of guys like Jordan, funny they didn't play too much baseball in Japan until after WWII and US servicemen brought the game to Japan. If you ask most Japanese who the greatest baseball player of all-time is they will tell you Sadahara Oh. Oh actually has more HR's than Hank Aaron he is a god over there.

You can argue all you want about baseball being a world game but truth of the matter is nobody in Spain gives a shit about Derrick Jeter or the Yankees.

Think about it for a minute, there are players in the NBA from Haiti, Argentina, Brazil, The Sudan, France, Belguim, Germany, Croatia, Serbia, South Korea, China, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Spain, Litunainia, Russia, Australia, Canada, and a host of other European and African nations. This is not by accident, I truly feel this is because of Michael Jordan.

I'll disagree with junc that Jordan is the most widely recognized athlete on the planet. I would think Yao Ming certainly could be debated but I still think Beckham has everybody beat. Don't let Becks fool you, his reason for wanting to play here is he thinks he can make Americans like soccer. Not because he can live in peace. There are plenty of European and English transplants living here that he would still get mobbed. It's no coincidence that every game he played in the US this past summer had over-priced tickets and were completely sold out.... funny for a nation that doesn't lie soccer.

The collapse of the Soviet Union wasn't this surprsing. If Yankee Stadium imploded, it wouldn't be as wild. I'm telling you, this could be a crash bigger than Black Tuesday.

Well, okay so maybe there was one team that fell apart in a bigger implosion than this: Only the mysterious Great Yankee Collapse of 2004. But this is awfully close.

To view links in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. Your post count is 0 momentarily.

But in the hours following the great Yankee baseball collapse, with the natives in my city cursing and feeling cursed, I too saw red. Except I saw mine online.

The word baseball ruined it, I have no clue why it was in there in the first place.

LOl,yeah ok. Ofcourse you are going to have a bandwagon when a team wins like the Yanks have. That is also true of the Steelers right now,the Pats over the last 4 years etc. But to say Met fans are more loyal...what,all ten of them? junc it has nothing to do with repecting the Yankees but everything to do with the embarresment they brought the city of New York. The key differnce to your little history lesson is that 90% of non-Yankee fans can't rattle off the years the Yankees have won those titles but every baseball fan will remember the Yankees choking away to not another team but your hated rival. It's ALL about respect. is there a daily Sox thread for all of their chokes? is there a daily Mets thread for all their futility? No b/c no one cares and while most non-Yankee fans can't rattle off the Championship years they do know that the Yankees win alot and are THE marquee team in all of sports.

no,only obsessed jealous Yankee haters will remember it that way. The truth is that this thriving on one event is pretty pathetic. The baseball hall of fame and all of the history books will have much more on 26 championships, team of the decade, most successful franchise in sports and all the names that wore pinstripes and grace the hall of fame.
