James Visit Creates Excitement

The Arizona Cardinals continued in their offseason activity Saturday as running back Edgerrin James visited the Cardinals Training Facility to meet with members of the Cardinals football operations and coaching staff.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to have Edgerrin come to us and entertain the possibility of being an Arizona Cardinal,” commented Vice President of Football Operations Rod Graves. “We feel we have a great deal to offer and he recognizes that by the mere fact he is here. We’re excited about the things he could bring to our program and hopefully we can get something accomplished with him.”

As an eight-year NFL veteran James has rushed for over 1,000 yards in six of his eight years in the league. In each of his past two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts James has rushed for over 1,500 yards.

“Edgerrin has established himself as one of the prolific running backs in the history of the game,” continued Graves. “A running back of that quality could certainly have a dramatic effect on our running game, which is something we set out to improve this offseason.”

As a two-year starter at the University of Miami, James was the only player in school history to record consecutive seasons of over 1,000 rushing yards. The Immokalee, Florida native went on to be the fourth overall draft pick in the 1999 NFL Draft by the Colts.

“He has been an important part in the Indianapolis’ success as far as his running ability and as far as his pass receiving abilities,” Graves stated. “We’re looking to add all of those dimensions to our offense and help us to improve in an area where we indicated that if we had the opportunity to improve our running game we would. Edgerrin would definitely help us do that.”

“I’m very excited. Who wouldn’t be?” added running backs coach Kirby Wilson. “Having a franchise running back considering you and your organization gives you hope and that is what we all have right now. We’ll wait and hope for the best.”

Good move by them. They will have one of the best offenses in the league, in my opinion. There is no reason they can't score 24 points per game this year.

Not a bad move... they still need an OL, though.

They still need a QB to run this offense, but it's a great move.

They have the weapons to do that, but they still have oline concerns and Kurt Warner hasn't played on that level for awhile now...

Wow... Edgerrin James, Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald.

They should fix their attrocious Offensive Line in the draft.

Winston Justice would be a smart pick if he is available to them...

How does a new stadium make the offense sick? They still dont have a QB or an offensive line. I wouldnt be surprised to see them trade up now for one of the big 3 QB's

That's a pretty cool signing. If Warner is competent, they'll have a tremendous offense.

Thats a great move for the Cards if they get him. But I wonder how Edge would feel about this? I mean Arizona isnt exactly a place where everyone would love to play. Its in the middle of nowhere with no fanbase what so ever.

I don't understand why they won't let Josh McCown be their franchise QB. Anyone who has watched the Cardinals more then me, what is wrong with McCown?

He has size, the arm, he can move around (actually, he can run)....

their D is still horrible...although this signing pretty much makes them a 5-11 team into an 8-8 team....they're close to playoff type

McCown is really, really inaccurate. He misses wide open recievers all the time. When he plays, the yardage he gets is usually a result of his two pro-bowl WRs making huge plays.

Somone please put the following quote as their sig....

Mark my words...Edgerin James's career will flounder in Arizona. He will become very average without the offensive line that has been protecting him all those years in Indianapolis. James knows that his career is coming to an end and signing this deal proves that he could give a shit about winning. It was all about how much $ can I get before I'm finished? Please don't tell me the Cards are gonna be a contender just because they have Edgerin James.

Wow they'll stay second in the NFC west this year. Maybe they'll only lose to Seattle by 7.
