Herm is not that good of a coach. In my opinion he doesnt not have the in game skills to take a team to the superbowl. A great motivator yes but the qualitys need to call a timeout when its needed no!

It would probably piss me off because I'd have to listen to months of "Jets are so stupid" from the media. Lets not lose sight of the fact that Herm wanted out of NY and did everything he could to grease the skids.

Second thread you have said "this Eric guy" if you aren't enough of a fan to know the guys last name, maybe you shoud try the chiefs board. EVERY coach who has ever coached, had to get their first start somewhere, and was in the same situation as Mangini. So this is a pretty idiotic statement.

I like how everyone who likes Herm brings up this argument despite the fact that Herm never even called a play before he came here.
And why all this man-love for Herm? I think it's in abyzmul's sig where you say you wouldn't mind it if the Chiefs knock out the Jets en route to the Super Bowl. Are you serious?!?! I see you know nothing about it he wanted to stay.
If Edwards had wanted to stay, all he had to do was say to KC that he was under contract with the Jets, and they should go away. Expecting a raise and extension after an awful year doesn't constitute wanting to stay.
And "I've always liked KC and would love to see Herm win a SB" doesn't sound like something a #1 Jets Fan would say.

Because the team went 4-12. He was the HC, he was responsible for the teams record, it doesn't matter if there were injuries. As head coach it falls on him. And a 4-12 record does not consistitute an extension and raise. ESPECIALLY for a team rebuilding.

You still haven't put together a cohesively written sentence. And you're still way off the mark.
Did you learn anything watching Herm for 5 years? The man's game plans were weak, and he showed no ability to make adjustments on the fly (and I won't even mention the clock management). Herm = Dungy. Nice guy and a player's coach who can't win/will never win the big one.

39-41 record as a head coach, and a losing record in the playoffs. Mangini will have a better record after 80 games, I can bet you that. Herm inherits- a 36 year old quarterback that had a head coach that babied him for years (sound familier?), Shields will be gone and a defense that's ALWAYS the laughing stock of the league. The Jet's have holes but the Chiefs aren't the model of an NFL organization right now either.

I must admit, when I thought we were stuck with Herm I started to hope that maybe there was some karmic voodoo way that he was going to outsmart Belichick by being so completely stupid and making decisions and calls that went completely against all logic.
Maybe that was the answer after all!
Maybe if Herm was actually calling the players, it would've worked because no opposing coach could possible hope to predict his thinking.

isn't that funny everybody said the same about Bill Cower and DAMN he won the big game this past season.
Mike Holmgren has been criticised his entire career for clock management problems as he showed in this years Super Bowl. He did win a Super Bowl even with his clock mangements problems. Andy Reid was skewered last year after his clock management problems at the end othat Super Bowl. The most important quality in a HC is leadership. Edwards had his players playing hard every week all season which is why several of the local media thought he should get a contract extension if the Jets were serious about rebuilding.
Knowing that Dick Vermeil was retiring and the non commitment to Edwards by the Jets, it was easy to see why he took the same decision as Al Groh and Bill Bellichek did, take a dream job with a competent ownership and management.
We have an inept owner who might be worse than Leon Hess who at least in a senior moment brought Bill Parcells in giving the Jets seven years of respectablity.
