View Full Version : NFL Quick Mock Draft

Since the polls weren't very good last year, we'll try something else this year.
Every couple of weeks we can take the first round draft order and do a "quick draft." Rules:
-You make a pick for the team that's OTC
-You can make no more then 4 picks total for the round
-You cannot pick for back-to-back teams
-Make picks with 100% seriousness - a selection of the league's best punter at first overall will be discarded.
-Yes you can draft anyone that's draft eligible this year (juniors that may or may not declare) but please try and keep it to guys like Adrian Peterson and Calvin Johnson who have seriously talked about coming out.
(draft order as of 11/22)
1. Detroit Lions
2. Arizona Cardinals
3. Oakland Raiders
4. Houston Texans
5. Washington Redskins
6. Cleveland Browns
7. Tampa Bay Bucs
8. Tennessee Titans
9. Minnesota Vikings
10. St. Louis Rams
11. Green Bay Packers
12. Miami Dolphins
13. Pittsburgh Steelers
14. Buffalo Bills
15. Atlanta Falcons
16. New York Jets
17. San Francisco 49ers
18. Philadelphia Eagles
19. Cincinnati Bengals
20. Dallas Cowboys
21. New England Patriots (from Seattle)
22. Carolina Panthers
23. New Orleans Saints
24. Jacksonville Jaguars
25. Kansas City Chiefs
26. New York Giants
27. New England Patriots
28. Denver Broncos
29. San Diego Chargers
30. Baltimore Ravens
31. Chicago Bears
32. Indianapolis Colts
I'll start off.
1. Detroit Lions select QB Brady Quinn, Notre Dame

Kitna and McCown are both decent starting options, but that is all they are. In order to fully take care of the Mike Martz offense and the receiving depth there, they'll need a very intelligent QB with arm strength to guide them there. Oh and also, Quinn is going to be hyped as "the next Brady" with his experience under Weis. It's a match made in heaven, and almost a guaranteed pick at this point.
1. Detroit Lions- QB Brady Quinn, Notre Dame
2. Arizona Cardinals- OT Joe Thomas, Wisconsin
3. Oakland Raiders- WR Calvin Johnson, Georgia Tech
4. Houston Texans- HB Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma
5. Washington Redskins- DE Gaines Adams, Clemson
6. Cleveland Browns- CB Leon Hall, Michigan
7. Tampa Bay Bucs- DE Quentin Moses, Georgia
8. Tennessee Titans- S LaRon Landry, LSU
9. Minnesota Vikings- QB Drew Stanton, Michigan State
10. St. Louis Rams- OLB/ILB Paul Posluszny, Penn State
11. Green Bay Packers- WR Dwayne Jarrett, USC
12. Miami Dolphins, ILB Patrick Willis, Ole Miss
13. Pittsburgh Steelers- OT Sam Baker, USC
14. Buffalo Bills- OT Justin Blaylock, Texas
15. Atlanta Falcons- WR Ted Ginn Jr., Ohio State

With Moss going and Porter checked out in his head as well, they need a playmaker with some character. CJ has the name, the skills, and the potential to make a difference on that offense from day one.

Simeon Rice and Greg Spires are both getting old, and we watch today on Thanksgiving as the mediocre Dallas offensive line pushed this defensive line up and down the field. They bring in Moses as the first step in rebuilding a defense that is eventually going to break down of old age.

Thank you for leaving me the option to change the pick, and I think I will. I don't like the idea of taking a QB in the first round this year... Chad still has 2 or 3 years left in him and we just used a 2nd rounder on Clemens. Yes Clemens is unproven, but over the next 2 or 3 years we'll get to see him a little bit. If he doesn't pan out, then we still have Chad to start out the rest of a season and then we can draft a first round QB then.
Instead, I like the idea of taking a playmaking, franchise running back that will be very explosive behind our building offensive line. Say hello to:
HB Marshawn Lynch, California
To view links in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. Your post count is 0 momentarily.
Our offense is pretty much locked up for now (unless someone wants to replace Askew with Leonard), and then we can focus on defense for the rest of the draft.

Kurt Warner did better then that, then went to Arizona and sucked balls.
Do you remember when Bulger was hurt last year and that Ivy League kid was tearing up defenses?
I am a firm believer that the St. Louis QB job is a system-related job (just like the Broncos and their RB) and if they ever got a real athlete in there then look out.

I can't pick anymore because I've done my 4, but I have a lot of Cowboy fans in the family and they are a team I follow and know quite a bit about. WR help would be nice, and there's 2 prospects still on the board that they'd be drooling over. There are also a few OL around that would assist a mediocre OL, like maybe at the RT position.

So a 58.2 passer rating is tearing it up? He had one good game against a team in the bottom third in pass defense and total defense, and he tore it up?
Martz's system can be a quarterback system. It will no longer be system-related for quarterbacks, because Linehan features a more run-heavy offense with the emergence of Steven Jackson. Saying positions are system related is complete horseshit. With the exclusion of Olandis Gary, every back in Denver has gone elsewhere and proven to be solid. Reuben Droughns, Clinton Portis, Mike Anderson.
Just because players at the same position keep putting up big numbers in the same system, doesn't mean they are just benefitting from the system. USC consistantly puts out excellent quarterbacks, but they are all great NFL prospects, despite the fact everyone says its the system in college football.
I quoted the wrong post too.

Really a no brainer for a team that keeps featuring several different right tackles. Colombo doesn't get under defenders , because he's too tall. Fabini is way too old and Pettiti sucks. Brown is a football player that someone like Parcells would love.

Carolina Panthers select - QB Brian Brohm, Louisville
They can start grooming their next QB behind a 32 year old Jake Delhomme next year, and that gives Carolina the luxury of grooming their QB of the future the right way ... let him sit and learn for a year or two, then make a smooth transition from Delhomme to Brohm when the time is right
And this is how you setup "franchise stability" .. best way to assure you can remain a viable contender into the future, without having to scrape rock bottom and start from scratch, is to make sure you are set at the QB position for the next decade plus .. that's why Carolina shuns "Instant Gratification" and opts for the long term stability Brian Brohm offers
BTW, this is the best "Value Pick" of the draft thus far ..
Panthers secure a probable franchise QB and a TOP 10 lock in the 20's

The Indianapolis Colts select OLB Earl Everett out of Florida. He may be one of the fastest 4-3 linebackers in the draft and will flourish in the Tampa 2 system, that sits him in a deep zone most of the time. They'll likely be letting go of Cato June, so they need to replace him.
