What do we pay Nugent for anyway? Kicking the ball to the 10 yard line every time? We don't go for the 3. And then we don't go for it on 4th down?
Sorry but those decisons were HORRIBLE! I can't believe we gave this game away. What a horrible perfomance. Total half assed.

Well it's hard to know when our recievers don't run down the field 20 or more yards. How many attempts did he have over 20 yards. Yeah.

gotta get rid of both of those clowns after this season

Nugent is a waste of a pick (a frickin' SECOND rounder, at that). He doesn't do anything we couldn't expect from some bum kicker off of free agency.

I think that pretty much covers it.

yeah I agree. A 50 yard field goal is a long field goal, but virtually every other team in the league would at least attempt it from 50. If you don't trust a guy to kick it from there, then why keep him around? There has to be someone else on the wire that can kick a ball 50 yards.
They don't trust him, I don't get it. How do you not trust a 2nd round kicker?

I disagree on that one.

I said the exact same thing Petro at the time. They don't trust Nugent over 40yds and they don't trust Pennington downfield just yet...
Is it me or did I imagine all those floatie passes by Pennington today?

He hasn't been a second round kicker since April of 2005. Now he's a mediocre kicker who should probably be replaced in the future

In the hurry up offense, Pennington has a lot of control over what plays the Jets run. If the Jets recievers aren't going downfield, it's because Pennington doesn't want them to.

If that's been the case they should have brought in someone else. Sometimes you have to get over trust and just go for it.

So is it my understanding you aren't familiar with the term "bust"?

That's not the point. Yes nuge has not lived up the expectations. But it ain't helping his confidence by not letting him attempt a 50 yd FG. You can't expect him to improve if never given the chance.

Confidence was the least thing on Mangini's mind. Of course I wish we did go with Nugent. I'd like to see us lose confidence on him after he chokes on a 50 yarder rather than before.

I couldn't agree more. A complete waste of a pick if they're not going to let him try a 50 yarder in a game with virtually no offense. Just another mistake of the Bradway era...

I'm pretty sure Mangini wouldn't just lose confidence in Nugent without any basis for it. Who knows, maybe Nugent consistently missed several FGs from 50+ yards during practice or something.
All I'm saying is that he's a waste of a pick, because he's not being used in a way that any kicker signed off of FA couldn't do.

There hasn't even been an attempt for a 50+ yarder by him yet. I'm pretty sure that's correct. But I know that he's never made one....

Specially in the last quarter.
NFL standard kickers should be kicking FGs from 50, it is excusable to miss a handfull a season but damn...

It was windy, the kick was too long. We should have gone for ti instead of punted but I agree not to kick the FG there.

Either way we should have not punted. A good, not even great FG kicker can make those kicks. Looks like Mangini knows we don't have a good one.

That is not true. Just like Manning, Pennington still gets the plays from the OC. They just don't huddle. He does have the option to run everyone to the line and run a pre-determined play, if he thinks its the right time.
Mangini is a pansy. Yes, he runs some trick plays once in a while, but those have desperation written all over them. You have a team that is (was) over .500. They must have some talent. Trust it.
Nobody will want to hear this, but...
Herm would have went for the FG! and it would have been the right play.

They don't trust him, I don't get it. How do you not trust a 2nd round kicker?
Nugent should not have gone in the 2nd round.
NO kicker should go in the 2nd round. So that part of the argument is just not there.
The question is how do you keep a kicker on your team that you do not trust? That's a much better question to ask.

I guess I really never knew how hard a 50 yarder was. I thought kickers did them all the time. Maybe we should get John Hall back.
